    Dragon Rising has been released

I just tried the PC demo of Dragon Rising. My anti-virus program thought it was infected and the AI was stupid. Plus I couldn't select different weapons. The mission had it's moment (the artillery barrage) but was rather lacking overall. I will say one nice thing about the game however. It's engine. It looked great at high settings and ran smooth. Much smoother than ArmA2 runs on my rig. If ArmA2 ran so smooth on very high settings I would go out and buy another three copies. Sometimes dumb AI is good when they just can't hit you so you end up dying less and killing more, but that AI was dumb in the sense of just being morons and not very fun to fight.
  2. It is very annoying how a bunch of guys in noisy, cramped, T-72s without modern optical systems can spot my AH-1Z hovering a kilometer away to their side, and hit me and my gunner with a single burst of the roof mounted machine gun. Technically the AH-64 and AH-1Z are supposed to be fully resistant to rifle caliber fire and in some areas are designed to survive hits from heavy machine gun or light autocannon fire. Yet in reality, a single very (un)lucky shot (golden BB) can hit a small but important mechanical part and force a chopper down. The same is true for the Mi-24 despite it's reputation as a flying tank. Such is the nature of helicopters, they are complicated machines with many fragile components to protect. Yet in ArmA it seems like the choppers are vulnerable, and every enemy seems to be a marksman when firing at your helicopter.
  3. That's a shame. Those were very well done Mk.16 and Mk.17 models...
  4. I keep getting crash to desktops anytime I try to drive a car, motorcycle, or other ground vehicle. I haven't tried tanks yet forever. This is both in multiplayer and singleplayer. For the first few hours of gameplay this problem did not occur. Specs are: I7 920 at 3.3 ghz 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1333 speed GTX 260 (216 core) 300 GB 10,000 RPM hard drive 750 watt power supply
  5. Any news on the release date for the next patch? Or should I just go ahead and try the beta anyway?
  6. I agree the flashes are pretty damn awful. Makes me avoid night combat to some degree.
  7. The AK-103 is uses the old 7.62x39mm caliber used by the classic AKM. It is not a true rifle caliber however like 7.62x51mm. Yes the round can go 1000 meters but the chances of actually hitting a man sized target at the range are slim, and even then the round probably doesn't have enough power to take down the target. Technically the M16A2 has a max range for an "area target" of 800 meters, but beyond 500 meters or so you really should be using something more than an intermediate caliber. There is some confusion over the latest generation of AK rifles so here is a quick rundown. Note that most of the 5.56mm designs are intended for export. AK-74M (5.45x39mm) AK-101 (5.56x45mm) AK-103 (7.62x39mm) The only major difference between these models is the caliber, the AK-74M is currently the Russian Army's standard weapon although the AK-103 is supposedly used in limited numbers. AK-102 (compact version of AK-101) AK-104 (compact version of AK-103) AK-105 (compact version of AK-74M) These are all shortened versions of the previous designs although they are not as short as the AKS-74U. AK-107 (5.45x39mm) AK-108 (5.56x45mm) These rifles use a "balanced operating system" designed to reduce recoil, have a higher cyclic rate of fire, and have an optional three-round burst mode. In ArmA2 the Russians use the AK-107 although I do not know the status of the project in real life. AN-94 (5.45x39mm) Technically not a Kalashnikov rifle but for awhile the Russians planned for the AN-94 to become their new standard rifle. It has a unique two round burst mode that delays the recoil until both shots have been fired minimizing any deviation between the two rounds. While used in limited numbers I believe the Russians no longer plan to replace the AK-74 with this. AEK-971 (5.45x39mm) AEK-972 (5.56x45mm) AEK-973 (7.62x39mm) These weapons are also not Kalashnikov designs but they competitor with the AN-94 in competitions for Russia's next rifle and lost. However in the early 2000s the AEK-971 saw limited production until 2006. They use a "balanced operating design" similar to the AK-107.

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Does the 1.05 patch improve performance? My dream is for ArmA2 to be as refined in terms of performance and online play as ArmA1 was with the final beta patch.
  9. Asus P6T I7 920 overclocked to 3.3 GHz. GTX 260 (216 model), driver version 191.07 4GB DDR3 RAM (I forget what speed) 10,000 RPM 300GB hard drive. Windows Vista SP2 Home Premium 64x Steam edition of ArmA2. Fully updated. And my game runs like crap at 1920x1200. Well it runs okay in single-player but it in multiplayer it is sluggish and "chunky" to describe it nicely. The patched up version of ArmA1 I used to have installed ran much smoother, and multiplayer coop scenarios with ACE mod ran very well. Right now multiplayer domination scenarios are unenjoyable due to performance/lag issues.
  10. What texture "slider" are you talking about?

    ARMA 2 Adult content

I leave this forum for a couple of days and look what happens. I must admit I am slightly intrigued about the idea of strippers in Chernarus life, but lets not go beyond that, right?
  12. So I presume the actual 191.07 drivers offer the same increase the 191.03 beta did, does the new 195.39 beta offer any more ArmA2 adjustments?

    Dragon Rising has been released

You know there I are some things OFP2 does right and some things ARMA2 does right. I actually wish the developers somehow combined the two games. Instead of two games with plenty of potential but crippled by bugs/performance issues, plus lack of modability when it comes to OFP2. In my alternate universe we would have had one game to rule them all.

    Graphics engine improvement

I think the first priority of BIS should be to increase FPS rates by optimization. I would love to see such a change listed in patch 1.05 TomBambo, you have me drooling.
  15. I have noticed a few buildings that with the your low-building mod appear blurry at very short distances, like as if you were looking at them from 1000 meters away. Mainly small sheds in stuff. For example in that town on the southeast of Utes, look at the shed to the north of the burnt-out Church. Other wise both mods seem to work great, although I see the greatest FPS increase with the low-vegetation mod.
  16. Hey Kju, where those two keys I found after clicking a download in that list the only ones I need? After I placed them in the key folder, I couldn't join certain servers anyway. All I am running all the vegetation and building mods. Am I missing something? I am not very familiar with the keys system in ArmA and ArmA 2. Does the server need to have some sort of key too?
  17. Anyway you could release keys for these mods allowing online play?
  18. I just tried out your vegetation and building mods and they are amazing. So good that I think BI should incorporate them into their next patch to optimize the game.
  19. I have no problems with high quality ports, just as long as permission is granted, etc. All of these Russian aircraft make me want a USAF mod. Imagine a AC-130... *drool*

    Monsters, zombies and so on

The chances of such a mod actually working on the 1st page seemed pretty grim, but does this look like a real possibility now?
  21. I have the steam version, so how do I add this -cpucount=4 line?
  22. Currently I have an I7 920, GTX 260 (216 shader model), and 4GB of DDR3 (I should upgrade to 8GB sometime soon), yet my game is running pretty poorly at 1920x1200 resolution. Any help getting a relatively high FPS?
  23. How are you doing that? I have an I7 920 overclocked slightly, a GTX 260 (216 model), and 4 GB of DDR3 and my game runs pretty lousy. In single-player it is okay, but MP it stutters a lot. I am noting that my system is using 1.3+ GB memory with Steam, Firefox, and Nod32 running, would finding a way to get that down help my poor ArmA2 performance? Oh I forgot mine is running at 1920x1200 however, what is your resolution.
  24. Just game up with a couple more game-play related suggestions. More advanced tank fire control system with laser rangefinder and etc. FLIR for modern MBTs and attack helicopters. Adjust weapon models not everything is being fired from the end of the main gun. Currently on the BTR-90 for example, the automatic grenade launcher "fires" from the main gun even though the grenade launcher is located on the side of the turret. Same thing for the missiles. Also, it is just my personal preference but I would like to see all the M4/M16 series weapons be slightly darker than they are now. (with the exception of the camo painted variants)
  25. I always have ideas for suggestions, so get back to work modders! :D Mk.16 and Mk.17 SCAR series like in ACE mod but with the ability to select in black rather than tan colors. Other additional weapons like the HK416, HK417, and Bushmaster ACR. New Abrams variants with improved visuals (like in ACE mod) More USMC vehicles such as the LAV-AD, LAV-AT, M-ATV, EFV, and different HMMWV variants. US Army forces and vehicles including the Bradley, Stryker, Blackhawk, and Apache. Revisions to the F-35B and it's weapons loadout. AIM-9X replacing the AIM-9L Realistic rates of fire for all weapons. Add new vehicles the military is developing as more imformation becomes available and final designs are selected. This includes programs like GCV, JLTV, and MPC.
