Northrop B2 "Spirit" Stealth Bomber
reconteam replied to s@ndbob's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Is there any way to target multiple targets at once during such a bomb run? Such a huge number of SDBs doesn't seem too useful otherwise, I'd rather have a smaller number of GBU-31s or GBU-38s. -
AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'm not very familiar with the flight models and stuff like that but what is the difference between this "helicopter" and "helicopterX" in ArmA3? Will BIS fix this "sliding" bug you speak of? Vehicles with detailed interactive interiors like you mentioned would be an amazing feature. -
22 US Veterans Kill themselves everyday and no one gives a shit.
reconteam replied to walker's topic in OFFTOPIC
We didn't go into Iraq because corporations thought it would be a great idea, we did because of political stupidity across the board and a massive screw up by our intelligence agencies. Was a legitimate war? Of course it was as the concept of a "legitimate war" is idiotic. We never pretended those weren't American troops (just airsofters). Saddam was a typical paranoid/insane Middle Eastern dictator who was terrible to his people and certainly wasn't innocent. The real question is "was it worth the cost" and it wasn't. They're going right back to killing each other and their government can't contain an enemy they outnumber and outclass without the aid of American blood and treasure. It seems that creating a "better Iraq" was always a hopeless cause. It would have been interesting to see how Saddam would react to the mess in Syria, Egypt, and Libya. Things probably wouldn't work out any better, but they probably wouldn't work out any worse for us either. Is it any surprise that so few give a damn about veterans? Look at the current state of our culture. Look at the complete incompetence of the VA. Look at these jackasses more concerned with social engineering, political correctness, and buying votes than the state of our military or those serving at it. I'm sure the system these politicians create around themselves has helped ensure the highest ranking in our military are spineless boot-licks too. When is the last time a general or admiral spoke out about the dreadful state of things? Nettrucker the whole "depleted uranium is super-toxic" myth needs to end. ALL heavy metals are bad for you in large enough doses but depleted uranium is little if any worse than tungsten for example. "Gulf War sickness" is most likely due to exposure to any number of chemical/biological weapons the Iraqis had or the drugs issued intended to counteract such weapons. No chemical or biological weapons were used directly against coalition forces but there are all sorts of ways our soldiers could have been exposed to limited doses of such things. Even stuff like all of those burning oil wells has got to be bad to breathe in. -
Current this bug exists in both ArmA 3 and the latest version of ArmA 2 CO. When in a 1st person view the spent brass casings ejected from the weapon do not appear until they are several feet away from the player's vision. This can be easily observed on just about any infantry weapon firing cased ammunition. With weapons that eject the spent casings far enough to the right you can see them eventually appear mid-air by looking to the right while shooting forward. So far I cannot replicate this issue while in a 3rd person view. I know many may think this to be a small problem but it annoys the hell out of me especially when you consider this isn't a problem in vanilla ArmA 2. I'd love to see it fixed in both ArmA 3 and ArmA 2 OA/CO.

Maybe they just forgot? I'm far from an expert on this stuff but I don't see why it would be that hard to fix. BTW RH I love your weapon addons. -
RKSL 3 - A new start... Discussion
reconteam replied to rksl-rock's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
That video was more recent than that whole program restructure IIRC however. Doing some more digging a 2012 Powerpoint claims the 4x AIM-120 internal carriage option is still planned for Block 3 (presumably now 3F). Beyond that there are some Block 4 candidate weapons but no mention of plans for future Blocks. Considering this is all notional stuff I suppose it makes sense to concentrate firstly on what capabilities are set in stone. I don't see why the AIM-120 would require the seeker head to have a lock on the target before launch. At typical BVR ranges the AIM-120's internal active RF seeker is too far away to pick up the target. Until the active seeker picks up the target the AIM-120 is using inertial guidance with target updates provided by a data-link to the launch aircraft. The AIM-120s carried in the F-22 have no better view of the target before launch than AIM-120s using hardpoints 4 and 8 on the F-35. Considering everything Lockheed and customers want the F-35 to do I'd bet that someday we'll see a dual missile launcher for hardpoints 4/8, but who knows when that will be. I doubt it will be compatible with conventional short ranged missiles (AIM-9X, AIM-132). I know that SPEAR isn't an air-to-air missile (it's sort of a powered SDB II from my understanding) but I just thought that would be a versatile internal loadout to someday see in this addon. -

A 2010 video showed a CGI image of the F-35 with six internal AMRAAM which was (originally) planned for Block 5. You could well be right about the four missile loadout being canned (haven't read word on that in some time now) but I think that six missile loadout is still something they plan on eventually doing. By the time that is introduced the US really ought to have a successor to the AMRAAM in service. We can do much better than it now. Also, model of internal loadout for of 8x Spear and 2x Meteor which is also featured on a lot of MBDA promo stuff. -
Arma 2 Addon request thread
reconteam replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
There was a well done Vulcan bomber done for ArmA but it was never ported to ArmA 2. IIRC there were some copyright "who done it" problems and I don't know if that was ever sorted out. I would love to see somebody port the USEC Navy mod (minus the Seahawks and Harriers) to ArmA 2. I've been scrounging together something of a fleet from the various mods out there and would love to have something resembling an American destroyer. I tried the ArmA version in ArmA 2 and you could spawn the ships empty but the textures were all messed up and entering any position on the ship was very difficult. Maybe installing the old CAA mod would fix the textures? -
AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I recently picked up one of those small walk-around books for the AH-64 I saw at a local hobby shop, and it shows a good job showing the additions to the AH-64 over the years. On a later Block II AH-64D it shows there are two AAR-57 plume detectors on the tail-boom between the laser warning sensor and some other sort of sensor (RWR?). There is one photo of a CMWS equipped AH-64D without the wingtip sensors and a mention that the 7-6 Cavalry's AH-64As have been upgraded with the CMWS. The AH-64Es ordered by Taiwan also lack the wingtip sensors and appear to have a Sidewinder launcher (looks different from the normal Stinger launcher). APSI? Is that the new scoop-type exhaust suppression system? Maybe it's some sort of regional modification for places like Afghanistan where AH-64s are flying high and don't have to worry about any sort of enemy aircraft? -
AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
So it looks like there are two in front of the CPG's station, two on the tailboom, and an optional two on the wingtips. Was this one on the bottom another CMWS sensor or something else? MTADS/PNVS is currently just an overhaul of the FLIR related systems, but M-DSA is supposed to be a second stage that upgrades all of other components. There are a few promotional videos of it on the net and such. I'm not certain if it is something the Army is already funding or if it is just an offer from Lockheed. I'm not certain but I'm guessing it is a new formation light. I wonder why they would have changed it? -
AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Here is a photo of a new AH-64E with those wingtip sensors I am talking about, which I presume to be additional CMWS sensors. They certainly seems to be removable as the new AH-64Es for Taiwan have what I'm guessing to be a launcher for the Sidewinder there instead. I still have no idea what color/colors either the ORT or TEDAC shows FLIR and TV imagery in (the latest MTADS upgrade will add full-color DTV), but the other MFDs seem to use green. -
WIP importing of PedagneMOD in ARMA 3
reconteam replied to arremba san zorzo's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I recently installed your Pedagne mod for ArmA2 and I am very impressed by the amount and quality of content. As with any mod though there are a lot of bugs but I would be glad to report them if it will help out future development. Do you plan on updating the ArmA2 version any more or are you focused solely on ArmA3 now? I love the thought of the ships ported to ArmA3 with all of the improvements in how the game engine does water. -

Gripen is my least favorite of the Eurocanards but that is still damn sexy. In the long term do you guys still have the Tornado and F-35B or F-35C on the list? -

Just browsing ArmA3 mods in progress and I just ran across these impressive looking aircraft for the first time. I see some confusion over who did what has occurred however so does that mean this project is postponed/cancelled? -
AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
It seems the CMWS uses either 4 or 6 plume detectors. I've seen some images of AH-64s with just the two in front of the cockpit and the two on the tailboom. I suppose the wingtip sensors are for better coverages of the sides. -
Kiowas! Does anybody know what the OH-58E was? A cancelled upgrade I presume but I've never heard mention of it. Are you going to include that strange box-mounted .50 caliber MG that served until recently replaced by the M3P?

AH-64D Apache Longbow for ArmA2 by Nodunit and Franze
reconteam replied to franze's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'm pretty sure the AH-64B just featured updated avionics, GPS, and things like that which were later incorporated into the AH-64D. I've never been able to confirm the occasional mention of an upgraded chain gun. The AH-64C was just the AH-64D without the Longbow radar but since the radar could be detached and placed on another Apache machine relatively easily they just use the AH-64D designation. The AH-64D has seen a lot of upgrades over the years culminating in the AH-64E and there are more upgrades planned for that like M-DSA. One of the latest upgrades I've seen but have no knowledge of is some sort of sensor on the wingtips of American AH-64s that faces rearward. As far as I know that isn't related to the Common Missile Warning System upgrade. I've finally had a chance to play with this mod a bit and I must say it is amazing work. The level of detail is truly sim quality. Shouldn't the gunner's FLIR use green instead of the the current black and white? I thought the black and white FLIR imagery was just the color used by recording system. -

Eh, philosophy can examine humanity morality and what we should strive to become more than science can. -
For some reason when I am in first person shells casings seem to appear very far away from my weapon, but in third person they are shown ejecting from the weapon properly. This is the case regardless of what mods I have running or not running. Any ideas? Yes it's a minor issue, but I'm picky like that.

I'm curious, why have a separate key to switch chain gun burst sizes instead of just using the usual "f" weapon selection system?

Helmet cam footage of extreme firefight in Afghanistan
reconteam replied to Mr Butlertron's topic in OFFTOPIC
Lots of armchair generals here. Firefights in Afghanistan often take place at rather long range, greater than 400 meters or so. He could have well been trying to move up to get into M203 range or a better firing position where he could return fire and draw attention away from the rest of his squad. He seems to realized he made a mistake when he gets the Taliban's attention and he's stuck in the open, being fired at. He was clearly trying to scramble to cover when he got hit. Even with the body armor stopping the bullet, the amount of force he receives must be like a punch to the gut, and he got hit multiple times. That probably makes it very hard to move for a bit. -
I've almost suffered a heart attack twice now when my eyes tricked me into thinking the last post on the addons & mods: complete section was made in this topic.

Seems to me he is stumbling around while the economy very slowly (too slowly) starts to see improvement. A shame any good parts of healthcare reform are buried in such a bloated monstrosity. By what standards is this an accomplishment? Repealing that wasn't even a good thing. Did he now? Guess I didn't notice between the Uncle Sam still taking a large chunk of my income and the economy being terrible. Yeah, his cult of personality will tell you how he stopped global warming, cured the blind, and personally killed Osama too. This years DNC shows how insanely far to the left the Democratic party has moved. There is no room for the FDR/Reagan Democrats and those with more conservative beliefs. I hope it shocks some people into action.

I don't have anything against Sprocket but I agree with GRS. Sometimes even with Steam ArmA II, OA, and the modules have occasional trouble acting together under CO.
