  1. I might give this one a miss: I'd much prefer more content than more campaign. Wouldn't mind spending more £££ for some real content, tbh. The community has made many excellent campaigns (although Gaia's ones are always something special, admittedly). The only thing it tends not to produce are voice-overs, and this is truly BIS' weak point. Please, please have Maruk tear up Dan's contact details after this campaign. We also get a whiny Asian guy with a twelve-year-old's voice (who will no doubt be the team's computer expert) - very original. It's a shame, because the new Asian face looks like a great model. What was that about in the trailer? Wut? (NSFW language - only what's in the trailer) Shapur gives me low expectations for the new map. I hope I'm proved wrong, but the only thing I'll be able to preview with the low-rez stuff is the smattering of new gear and models. I'll be waiting for reviews of the campaign on these boards, I suppose.
  2. Our opinions differ. Do I care about the ridiculous levels of gore in Treyarch's games? -No. I'm sure one or two speshul forces dudez in the history of mankind have stuck an oddly-shaped knife into someone's cortex; but for all intents and purposes, this is fiction. Now, go look up a few videos from liveleaks of snipers taken from Al Jazeera. Ordinary people - who happen to be employed as soldiers - alive one second, the next, simply non-existant. No blown out back of the head. No marinara sauce. They just no longer exist. Death is stupid and pointless. It's not 'Captain Price, remember to take account of the coriolis effect, fck yeah!' People who have served in the forces play Arma2. Many of those know friends who have had their lives prematurely taken from them. They certainly don't need to see characters' limbs blown off by IEDs or 7.62 rounds in game for 'immersion'. Is this concern slightly hypocritical? Probably.
  3. Oh my... I thought they would have at least spruced up the engine a bit more than that. Why are they still using the annoying blue/green filter from 'Skira,' when it's set in Central Asia? The model textures look exactly like Dragon Rising - even though they somehow seemed to look better in the previous vidya. The PLA models we saw looked to have had one or two of their facial shadows tweaked... and that's it. The PLA helicopter looked worse than the first game. The catastrophic damage feature looks incredibly tasteless: if I wanted gibs, I would play Painkiller, or some Halloween gore-fest like that. Every single feature is ripped-off. Nothing that's released is more than 40% original ideas, but this has nothing, unless you count removed features. I know people will say 'but Tajikistan is a real country,' but it really looks like they 'researched' the vegetation and buildings from Operation Arrowhead. The insurgents look uncannily like those from Medal of Honor (the shit one). 'We call those B-mods. You buy them with experience points.' Oh, come on, you don't really want to copy COD, do you? Clearly, Lenton and crew have been given a shoe-string budget and one last chance to make back the development costs from the 'death march' cycle that was Dragon Rising.
  4. Same texture on the map as the swamps to the West, so I think it's meant to be more mangroves: Example on edge of built-up area, Shenzhen, China:
  5. The settlements on the map have a very organic feel to them. The is truly awesome, and has a lot of potential for missions. The view from the is sweet. You can easily see where five months work went. Congratulations! The is very nice indeed, but the designer has mapped all its functions to the WASD keys, leaving the only way to control it the arrowkeys... a bit of a strange way of doing things. I can see myself remapping this.
  6. You know I’m such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger Do you have to let it Lingor Do you have to, do you have to Do you have to let it Lingor? :868: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5... .
  7. Just to say that I found the Von mod version of 10.10e today and wow! Finally, CrossFire actually works in A2 for me and my cards start to heat up somewhat for the first time in this game. I really recommend these for anyone with a CrossFire ATI set up - they don't rely on CF profiles, so utilise the multi GPUs much more effectively, imo. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=332395 If you want to try them, please make sure you look at the in depth readme file first, and use something like driver sweeper to clear out all ATI's past junk from your system before installing the modded driver version.
  8. I have a feeling his next video will feature him trying to use the traditional wedding sack on some poor American woman... Another of those 'internet people' you hope is a clever parody, but fear is all too real.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops Trailer...

I'm not sure... I get the feeling that, when Activision sacked West/Zampella, a lot of the bad blood was generated because Infinity Ward knew that the Publisher had them stitched up and could take their code off them and give it to another studio. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Completely unfounded guess at exchange in dying days of Infinity Ward: Kotick Minion: You will copy paste MW2 for your next game, or we will give the game code to another studio - this game doesn't need innovation, anyone can make its sequel! West/Zampella : But we have IP rights on our code! Kotick Minion: No... you signed those away in return for your bonuses, it's all here in black and white. West/Zampella scrabble about with photocopier/USB hard-drives, trying to gather together the assets for MW2. Kotick Minion: What are you doing with that photocopier? That's industrial espionage! Fetch me the most expensive lawyers in Christendom! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now some clever people have instituted server files for MW2, the game's a lot of fun, tbh. A lot of servers have reigned in the 'Call Of Doody' features. Worth another look, even for those who don't want anything to do with BO. The best things Treyarch have done are to make it clear they've taken out the silly-shit, arrogant features IW put in, and to bring a bit of a sense of humour to the game. Any Dr. Strangelove-style Cold War humour is much appreciated. The 'Ooh-Rah' po-faced machismo of IW's single-player campaigns always felt as embarrassing as if Arnie had been taking himself seriously in 'Commando.'

New Medal of Honor game trailer

I find it really odd, when some companies release DLC like this, (and a few people still buy it) that you still get the odd person on the A2 Steam group saying things like 'this is the epitome of horse armour' - of the BIS DLC. I suppose people will always resist change, and then there's the issue that some feel like they need to buy it to 'stay in the game,' and so get frustrated.

New Medal of Honor game trailer

Take a look at just how many players are enjoying the PDLC game-mode: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/18776694-post5.html This image was taken a day or so after release, when the servers should have been rammed. Couldn't happen to a more fitting company than EA.
  12. He wants people's input about whether to release, or to wait until an unveiling event can be reorganised. Easy to think that people are just trying to rush him, without reading his post.
  13. What!? Ready to go? Can't demand that you release it... Can beg, cajole, bribe, etc. :p
  14. This suggests it is processing power that is holding you back. There are some things you will not be able to do (I think you're on a laptop?) to help your performance: installing different aspects of the game to different hard disks, running the game entirely from RAM memory. However, you will still benefit from making sure other processes are turned off (including anti-virus, super-fetch, Windows Media Search - use services manager to turn these off), and ensuring that your hard disk is regularly defragmented and optimised using a decent defrag program (http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download/). Try adding 'vsync=0;' to the end of your Arma2OA.cfg file (in your documents), to turn off vsync. In the end, though, the only way I get a framerate that I'm happy with is by playing with a lot of settings on low or turned off (except 'textures' on very high), including post processing and shadows. I then get a good, stutter-free frame-rate for any engagement, by altering view distance as required. For me, graphics don't really matter with this game. Anyway, they still look much better than Arma1, and the models for the characters and weapons still include huge numbers of polygons. Hope you sort your problem out.

    Warfare 1944 for "Invasion 1944 D-Day 1.1"

"Oops! An unexpected error (-1) has occurred." From FileFront mirror. I44 Warfare sounds awesome, though.
  16. If Bis give the option to 'lock' PBOs - short of actually running a server that requires all players to have constant internet access just in order to use a model of a particular aircraft - someone will release a PBO unlocker a few months later. Whoever writes the PBO unlocker will firmly believe that his hours of hard work spent writing it were in the interests of the 'community.' - Would it really give modellers an increased sense of security to give them the option to lock their PBOs? - Would it be worth Bis' time, effort and money to implement this (posted before read Dwarden's post)? - Would it, in the long run, be likely to reduce the level of security for VBS/DLC modules released by Bis - since more effort would likely be put into breaking the implemented security by certain parties?

    ARMA 2:OA beta patch 74858

I previously ran the game without a page-file and all was solid and reliable (6 Gigs, x64 OS). Since the last build, I've got the 'receiving' screen for the first time and out-of-memory crashes. Performance with 74630 is okay for me at lower VDs, as long as I turn the page-file back on. Haven't tried 74858 so far.

using an xbox 360 controller in the PC version

This is a really good control scheme that I would never have thought of without having read your post. Thanks for sharing this idea.

Real Life Photography/Photo Editing II - NO IMAGES >100kb

Happy Halloween, chaps! Loving Topas' reenactment shots. Do you put the shot information anywhere, as I couldn't find it on that hosting site? 'Fighting Shadows' is very classy too, Vilas.
  20. Finally updated from 10.4 to 10.10 (every other time I tried to do it, it trashed my machine and somehow told my bios to look for the active partition on the wrong harddrive - thanks ATI :angryfire: Yes, I know to clean out the old drivers and install using cmd). Didn't bother with b or c, because I got the impression they were solely for the benefit of the new '6' series cards. Doesn't really seem any worse in regards to LODs etc. Maybe the framerate is a bit smoother. I've got 6 gigs of RAM and run without a page file. For the first time I'm now occassionally getting a black 'receiving' screen. CrossFire seems to sometimes throw a wobbler and drop a frame - maybe it's something to do with not using vsync. I don't have to use -flush too often with more recent builds of OA/ATI drivers. I'm not running into enough issues to go through the hassle of stripping the drivers and going back to 10.4. ATI 4870 x2. I don't seem to remember their drivers being nearly this troublesome before 10.5, apart from issues with individual games (which are to be expected). ATI seem to have a mindset of only really supporting a card series until the moment the next one is released these days, in their rush to compete properly with NVidia. I don't expect to get significant performance enhancing driver updates anymore for my card, but I also expect them to test that their drivers are actually going to install properly and not break what was previously working well.

    Secondary Monitor as Map

I'd be all for this. I don't see it as offering any particular gameplay advantage for those who have it (shouldn't be playing with a magic map that shows where all enemies are anyway). I don't have a second monitor. What I would like, is if someone would program an 'app' for iPhone/Android that lets you use your smart phone as GPS. That would increase immersion a good deal.
  22. The minigun fires explosive ammunition. It's like being a FV510 Warrior on legs.
  23. I was wondering why that unclickable option box had appeared - pretty obvious, really, must have been having a 'blond moment'. Come on, get real... BIS' pride in their work shines through everything they release. I truly couldn't name a game developing studio who take more.
  24. ...and Crysis was really ambitious, too, in what they wanted their AI to be able to do. I do think that all those features that designers wanted to put in, that the marketing department talk up and which never make it into the final build, are just as important for innovation. Look at Stalker for a great example. They really wanted to do things that PC tech just couldn't handle at that time.

    best place to download baf

Good to hear from folks that it's improved since experiences with OA. I'll probably come back to Sprocket next time, then.
