    Best Tactical Shooters for PC

#1 R6,RS gets my vote. From mission pre-planning, roster and kit selection to action phase and MP, there was nothing comparable at that time. 1st Tactical shooter i played, 1st clan ...what a  time it was. #2 SWAT3+ similar setting, slower paced gameplay, controls felt somewhat crude, MP not that popular. I bought 3&4 + "Stetchkoff". #3 OFP came later, and the setting is completely different from the above. It plays in it's own league, and due to it's wide scope more of a jack of all trades, master of none - and still under construction. I love it. :D

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

Oh well, at least i can now join PB enabled servers, even if the ingame browser is still lacking badly. Scoreboards also read much more reasonable now :D

John Rambo Vs Alan "Dutch" Schaeffer (Predator)

Tricky question. :D 8n1hKQULa9Y Rambo can operate Helicopters, Tanks (single-handedly) and uses bows where unproficiant people would resort to suppressed firearms. He is also unlikely to run out of ammunition. So i guess Rambo for the win, as even Bennet was more badass than Dutch. ApaEPazjYAc
  4. Or simply ditch the character driven storyline, and instead have a pool of dependable personnel to choose from. Dead and incapacitated personnel would be out of the campaign for good. Realistically, considering the rather short mission intervals and overall campaign length, i would expect a buddy getting injured in the last mission, not being available for the next, depending on the severity of injury. Could also add some additional replay value to the SP part.

GBU or Satchel charge? What did you choose?

Went with demolitions, thought it would be more challenging, resulting in a higher mission rating. It probably would have been a more healthy dose of reality to just lase the target from a safe distance, or have some UAV/ TLAM on it. It´s not games, it's the crushing dissapointments of the real world, turning kids into mentally disordered individuals.

    Ubisoft's Draconian DRM

With the wall of Flak coming at them, i guess you could have expected nothing less than their PR machine being kicked into gear, coming up with some self-righteous PR babble. The sad thing is, the PC games market has grown rather insignificant to the big companies producing AAA titles, to have a major impact on the revenue generated. In shows in the ignorance displayed towards the customer. From reading PR statements and browsing corporate forums one could arrive the conclusion, that not buying their PC titles anymore would rather result in them abandoning the market altogether, before stepping on the brakes considering consumer feedback. They want to make me believe there is no option, there always is. Hopefully this will be a chance for smaller companies, who exercise better business ethics, to step up the plate and deliver.

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

Pretty much gave up on it, as far as public servers are concerned.

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

I´m curious, during the beta, was it possible for OPFOR medics to revive opponents? Re. infinite revive-kill loop. Already tried this, also running BC2 as admin.
  9. It´s probably not completely off when saying that's probably also a marketing decision. Germany overtakes UK as top games market in Europe Although i´m german, it's tertiary to me which factions are included, as long as the underlying architecture is somewhat solid and makes for enjoyable gameplay. More variety is always welcomed, whether it's delivered by the community, or Developer. Nice Teaser, btw. :bounce3:

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

^ Exactly. The idea that a forum mod could determine, based on his gusto, whether or not a customer can utilize the product, does have some legal potential. On another note, just found this  http://i49.tinypic.com/2emlu2p.jpg I´m still Pvt Lvl. 1 ... should I or should I not :D - it surely would even the odds when playing on public servers, no?

That is completely laughable. Wonder how long it takes until someone considers a class action lawsuit against EA because of that.

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

Finally was able to join some servers. Tried some regular and it's total arcade, weapons seem nerfed and degraded to peashooters. Hardcore is somewhat better, but still aeons away from being unforgiving. What amazes me is the apparent amount of cheaters. We just had some kiddies on our team racing around with shotguns, 1-shot kills from like 100m, with kill ratios of 42:0. :D Hope PB catches up.

    Silent Hunter 5 announced!

Not much more to add. Substract visuals, which weren't too bad in SH4 either, and the player is left with an mediocre, unfinished, product that didn't build on- nor improve on it's predecessors. Same book, different cover. Only this time they tried to fit in Tolkiens hobbits into their idea of a spezialized book on submarine warfare.

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

Same as KillaAlf and Flash Thunder. I can use the browser just fine, it even lists pings if running BC2 as admin, but can't join any of the listed games. Popup either states max. capacity, or client connection issues. Already tried disabling the firewall, and reconfiguring my net adapter and services. No go.

    Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta

Argh. Just downloaded the patch and seems i have to start the campaign over again ...was already halfway through. :/ Aside from that, it`s what i hoped it would be - insane close quarters mayhem, with a extraordinary audio-visual treatment. :D

    Ubisoft's Draconian DRM

Don't know if this particular petition will achieve the desired effect through direct means, i doubt it also. If UBIs DRM is brought to the attention of the broad public, with more news/-gaming sites catching the vibe, alot has been achieved already. I would imagine a pirate petition reading something like "Bring it on, throw your best punch". :p j/k Distrust and objection of an exclusive online implementation is appropriate for many people, in my case it's profound contempt. Currently i´m evaluating my legal options against them for using texture material in preview/advertising of SH5, definitely not coming from an inhouse artist. Other than this, the required services are not transparent to the consumer, he has to trust the company not to distribute/ monetize on personal data. Just as the customer has to trust them to keep the servers online 24/7- without additional charges for doing so, or changing the policy (i.e. PtP) on a title. He has to trust them to support the product after it has been taken off the servers. What if your account gets suspended because of a UBI forum mod who doesn't like your posts/chatlogs? That's alot of Qs and one sided trust that i do not see warranted, the player is at the very short end of the stick in this. I support quality products and business practises, that's why i won't buy anything listed on UBIs future portfolio.

    Ubisoft's Draconian DRM

There's a petition up: No to Ubisoft DRM Baff is on target. Ultimately, your buying decision will factor right into their balance sheets and future prospect of PC gaming. May sound overly dramatic, but some people do not realize there`s more at stake than just loosing a save game due to packet loss. They make noise about protecting their investment, but that's only half the story. It has been stated that despite the DRM system introduced, they expect their UPlay infested titles to appear on torrent sites within a couple of days after release. So if it can not prevent the inevitable, what for. It's all about cashing in - by trying to subdue re-sales or give aways, and making the customer give up his/her privacy in order to play these games. Moral equivalent of a leech.
