Whenever the talk come to PvP the talk goes to CoD, BF and mods. Because it seems they have never ever played any serious PvP in ArmA2 apart from the only vanilla DM map, and they think thats PvP. ArmA is an FPS shooter, it playes like an FPS shooter it feels like an FPS shooter. And I say this, a very expirienced and good PvP player. Call it a milsim or whatever. The basic thing tis thread was about is offcial PvP maps Highlights of stupidity (except if he is sarcrastic) cut this crap with maturity, this guy here wrote hunders of lines of code just to prove that he can? ovprUppGJ7k whats the problem with this "racism" against people who own consoles? what the hell is the problem? don't like PvP? go back to your friends and play Coop the "average console player" will not even try to play coop. we all know whos IQ is below 8 and thats you. No its a game and for average FPS player I'd say its a easy one (no aiming skills needed etc). The reason ppl didnt play ArmA2 is because they got it the first day and they only found that crappy berzerk and coop maps that they are not intrested in. Who said anything about changing the gameplay. The average FPS gamer will not be able to play any PvP map and thats why he ll ditch the game. Tutorial of these kinds are not needed. Like having low sellings and after 1 year all the servers empty? Is that what you mean? The WHOLE PvP scene is the 30 players every Saturday night in that valhalla map? I don't think so. They just dropped the game because the were NO OFFCIAL-BALANACED PvP maps. Why do you always think that the game is complicated? Why do you think That people who buy ArmA want this game with changedgameplay OMG Why bother posting here? Did you even read the starters thread? Or you dont have a cd-key? You really think that CoD and BF players are willing to play coop? :confused:
  4. I agree 100% with you. This post expresses my thoughts. Its the vanilla content that keeps the game alive. Look at CS 1.6 its still played till toady. Look at Starcraft. The only thing the companies did was release patches for balancing weapons, builds etc Its the PvP community that keeps the players staying in the game and keeps bringing more. The 3d party stuff makes things misunderstung. For instance ArmA1 and ArmA2 PvP had some many third party PvP map types that everyone played the one he knew how to. Simple stuff: Official maps. Grab your friends find a server PvP with a common map, leave. Get better in that map and a make clan to play against other organaized clans in the same map that we all know (publicers - gatherers - clans) Finnaly play in tournaments, thats the ulitmate fun (tournamets with clans not events like the ones that massive numbers of players join a server etc) Why you need vanilla? Simply because organzitions that host tournaments dont want third party in their leagues, ladders etc for various reasons. All the success arma had in the PvP aspect of it maps from the ESL, PvP scene, ECL even those (sorry) crappy CTF maps by 88 where still played when the rest of the community gave up. And all these kind of maps have the CS-BF feeling, jump in shoot ppl etc. Too bad that there were so many of them, so many types, so many gameplay types. And the fact that there were many was a drawback, each clan had to practice for a specific tournament with diffant maps, that made it hard. Some specific ready made OFFICIAL maps by BIS would solve everything. Tactics, skill etc improve just by playing, "find the good spots" in the maps make tactics for each map etc. But all in quick and exciting BALANCED maps. How many times have you been spawnkilled in the public maps (Berzerk, Valhalla etc) this happens because they are badly desinged. I still favour these maps, they are made by the ESL template: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=10999&highlight=ESL And ArmA1 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=4585&highlight=ESL Especially the Two Sides, Anhoehe and B2T they have a mobile respawn, standard classes etc, this have a system that makes you focus on a specific gameplay style ( I don't say tehy are the best, but they are a step)

    what I like is M16 vs AK74 but if they manage to make the game balanced then no problem. ArmA2 had big balance issues with the sides. In ArmA1 it was great.

    The problem was the trees. I have huge Problems with FPS, in Sahrani I don't the game runs smooth with the CAA1, in like 70~+ FPS Chernarus was also not PvP frienldy as it had vast forests surrounding big forest areas that made the game very camping friendly and limited the map making capabilities. Takistan was full of canyons that made it also camping friendly. Sahrani was great from every aspect, it was great, great and great. Canyons, forests, mountains, small cities and all the other stuff that made the game friendly for PvP missions and also looking good. Sahrani FTW!

  13. GUNS The recoils: in ArmA1 version 1.08 where more belivable (at least the M16, M4 and AK47 that I used in the army where nicly simulated) in ArmA2 they were a bit random. Damage: In ArmA1 if got hit with an M16 twice BOOM your are dead (my assumptions are that it doesnt really mean that you get killed, it means something like you are out of combat, so you have to respawn). The damage system was more preferable in ArmA1 from ArmA2 since in ArmA2 if you take like 2-3 hits you dont die but still you need to press respawn because you cant offer much to your team. Maybe simulate that with a new module? Colors OFP and ArmA2 have a bit gloomy colors in comparison to ArmA1. I loved more ArmA1 because they were more clear depending the dynamic weather of course. Movement If you ask me ArmA1 movement was a bit better than ArmA2 in its general feeling, the only thing that was better in ArmA2 was the animations, they were more smooth. STAMINA OMG! WTF! FFS! ArmA2 you make two steps and you cant properly aim... The hold breath key in ArmA1 made it felt more like you where using it (maybe add an effect in ArmA3 just as an indicator like ine CoD) Scenario: SLA rocked my world! They were like the best and most belivable "bad guys" in every game I have ever played.
