That is really pathetic, I thought BIS netcode was pretty clunky but at least you can drop-in and out replacing AI whenever you feel. That is majorly taking a step backwards by not allowing jumping right into the game that will majorly hinder multiplayer and matchmaking. OFPDR is looking to be like HAWX was...all the flight sim community was really exited for what was supposed to be a pretty hi-fidelity sim on the console but kept getting watered down to the point that AceCombat looked like a simulator compared to it. I was really exited about this game but everyday both here and on the other forum I hear of another limitation and another new "feature" that reduces the quality of what the product was touted to be. Still going to play the demo but I don't see how it is going to get me to buy it now if the previews are true.

I got to try one round last night, it's great to open up the booster packs to all players...for the first time I got to try a booster pack map that I had years ago that never got played because servers were worried about playing it in fear of dropping players...not so anymore! Oh and it seems people are forced to play in a more tactical manner...I haven't played BF2 in a long while but it seems that the guns are much less accurate while standing and the dolphin diving and bunny hopping don't work nearly as well as it used to when I played. All in all a great patch and a fun game when you want to do some semi-mindless shooting!

The analog throttle is FUBAR right now so you aren't missing out on much..trust me

...so let's just fling poo right back ehh? Who really cares when you aren't even getting the game anyways. People really need to get over the whining about a publisher taking the rights to a name away. It seems like BIS has gotten over it, why can't the community stop crying about it...I really don't care what the game is called. OFP got PC Gamer, game of the year I believe and it had no previous legacy with it's name attached. The only reason ARMA1 or 2 did not receive the same claim and make a name for itself was because they really didn't revolutionize what was done since OFP, they just added onto it with flashy graphics and some newer features that new hardware could support, oh and the performance and bug problems didn't help. Codemaster's can do whatever they want to make as many sales as possible...do you blame them? I think the game is going to be fun but it is watered down to the point that it should no longer be compared to ARMA any longer. No need to fling poo and get all immature, it's just business. It is pretty clear we are now comparing apples to oranges and everyone should lighten up, play the demo for themselves, and not go ballistic when tout lies like "OFPDR will be more realistic than ARMA2". Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how off-base it is. You will have the demo (which is free by the way) to see for yourself

This thread has taken a sharp drop off into the deep end of stupidity...even for off-topic. So the BIS forums have resorted into pooh throwing at both the game and community of the competitor? I haven't read anything in the past 5 pages of any substance than pretty much what Student Pilot said a few pages back... "OH NOES!11!!! LUKS WAT SOM1 SAYS IN CM FORUM!11!! THEY L1ES AND WE ROX AND THEY SUXXORS!111!!!!" I know my leet speak is very bad, but that is pretty much what it sounded like for the past 5 pages...great image for the BIS community (/sarcasm intended). I'll come back to this thread when this so-called mature community starts acting like one and has rational discussions.

Definition of ARMA2 forums douchebagginess that some possess that is a pure magnet for all new comers (sarcasm intended). We really need to get rid of this immature attitude towards ARMA newbies. I say if you like the demo you should definitely get the game because they have already made numerous improvements and fixes since the demo version.

Yeah..I suppose it is Only on the ARMA forums is something so silly discussed with such seriousness :)

That's quite ridiculous, it's a concept a small child could understand! When you "HOLD YOUR BREATH" you are holding your breath in..you are essentially holding onto it, it makes perfect sense what the original poster is stating. When you exhale (after afterwords) it is more like letting go of your breath/releasing it. Hence it should be labeled otherwise, nothing really to argue with that. Unless you start overthinking it of course!

24 here. Simulations in my earlier days such as FlightSim4 and the Jane's collections of sims (and later on OFP of course!) were the only reason why I got on a computer. Cause/Effect...now I work in the simulations industry. ...Time for reflection

Even with poll reset I put play the DEMO first before deciding Even with all the watered down news about this game coming out and even with the signs of it sucking up pretty bad on both console and PC...what is there to lose with playing the DEMO just to see how it is? I don't see why you wouldn't vote to at least play the demo before deciding on the game. If you tear it down even after the demo comes without even having tried it you are, at best, ignorant and close minded. Get 1st hand experience for yourself and make up your own mind when the demo is out. I'm not seeing good things at all for OFPDR so my only hope now is Arrowhead. Alas, there is still no harm trying out the OFPDR demo...why not!?

I can help. I mainly buy ASUS boards so I have been through the BIOS ordeals. It is pretty typical that ASUS will come out with a Mainboard with a BIOS version that does not support some CPUs even if they are of the supported type. Sometimes they will release updated BIOS that extends support for newer CPUs...you have to look at the BIOS updates/changes log of the latest BIOS version to see if the CPU you want is on it... If not, just google your desird CPU and the motherboard you have to see if others have had luck and what BIOS version used. Hope this helps

I have win7 64-bit no problem alt-tabing at all...however while holding ALT to look around my plane then hitting TAB to get a target causes inadvertent ALT-TABing :)

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
cjsoques replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Who else thinks they should stop making these annoying campaigns that never work even after many patches...the ARMA1 campaign I can't finish because something random always happens that messes everything up, ARMA2 same thing keeps happening to me. OFP is the only campaign I've ever been able to complete. For Arrowhead they should throw out the campaigns and concentrate more on high-quality single player scenarios, multiplayer, and the editor. This will give them much more time on fixing the base features and issues with ARMA2. I'd rather them spend time on refining features and fixing major problems than making sure the campaign works...which is extremely hard to do due to the dynamic nature of the game. I mean most of us know beforehand to wait until 1 years worth of patches before the campaign is somewhat playable so we don't even bother. The last feature I care about is the campaign, does anyone else feel this way? I vote for no more campaigns! -
Sadly from what I have been reading on both here and on the OFPDR forums it looks like this game is going downhill fast. I was hoping it would at least compete with ARMA2 in some respects but it appears that it isn't even going to come close. Granted it might have fewer bugs than ARMA2 when it releases but the more I hear about it the more watered down it sounds. I'll have to wait and save my money for Arrowhead as it sounds like a performance enhanced content stuffed version of ARMA2 that I would be very excited about...If BIS would just lay off making the lame campaigns that don't work and work on more important aspects of the game. Not pre-ordering either one, but I now have higher hopes for Arrowhead.

Selling Mods and Scripts for Profit
cjsoques replied to Preacher1974's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
In the realm of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I can understand why high-quality addons are no longer free. The answer is quality. For example, for Microsoft 5.0/5.1 I had > 1600 aircraft in my library that I could choose from. However they all pretty much flew the same, all shared the same cockpit for the most part, and just looked different on the outside, had no moving parts, and were free For FSX, you need to have high quality textures, all moving parts, advanced features and effects, excellent flight model, new missions for the aircraft, detailed and realistic cockpit to make it all stand up to FSX standards. For that it requires the amount of effort need to pay somehow, however with FS5 I myself was able to make my own basic aircraft in a matter of minutes...not so anymore. Same goes for ARMA2, I'd easily pay for a high-quality addon because it simply takes many man hours to develop a highly-detailed addon because I understand how much time and effort it takes. -
This addon is absolutely incredible, I loved the islands in ARMA1 so this is such a treat Thanks for the hard work!

Lack of documentation a major problem
cjsoques replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I agree completely..some stuff is one the forums, while some stuff on the wiki, other stuff on user made websites, some stuff on armaholic. I learn new things every day about ARMA2 because the information was not out there in the first place until someone discovers it first. It's really sad that this game has a ton of features that 90% of the people who where first time BIS buyers had no idea that this game had. -
There was a study that some gaming website did that proved both SLI and crossfire have no improvement at all between 1 gpu or 2 gpu's for ARMA2..there is no benefit, period. I don't know where the thread is now but the study was very thorough.
-
Thanks for the update..I looked at the changes and non have to do with the actual flight model..as of 1.1 it flew like an AH-6 has this been fixed?
-
Crossfire does NOT help ARMA at all, this is well known, you might as well have only one GPU
-
It seems to me that a lot of people are sort of clueless about what Arma is
cjsoques replied to Rancmeat's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
What an absurd argument... look at the marketing 99% of the people who see this game buy it because it was marketed as an action-packed realistic FPS...not an editor! If it was marketed as an advanced scenario editor that would be another thing..but it's not -
Tryout the F-18E addon for ARMA1, the targeting system is just superb

Make Arma series under subscription ?
cjsoques replied to EricM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I would easily pay $10-15 a month if they had high quality large scale servers running some stable co-op or pvp missions I would also put down $100-200 for game like this that has no major problems at all and is fully updated/supported for 1-2 years with fixes and content addons. Small investment for a cheap hobby :) -
What the hell do you mean by that? Why the hell do they care? I dunno how big your hard drive is, but it's big enough that I can install both games..I obivously own ARMA2 (and have bought all their previous titles) so why the hell does it matter if I decide I like another game...shock...horror. What idiocy
-
that is just pure awesomeness...hope the flight model gets worked out in the next update then I'll be blown away
