    Cumbersome ArmA2 VR Rig

Jebus, my neck is aching after just watching that, I fear to think what could result from a standard 6 hour arma2 sesh... *wince* Neat setup though, if perhaps not exactly good for your spine. :D

    Iranian Forces Mod

Ok that video was freaking awesome! Didn't think i could get more pumped for this mod, but I'm always happy to be proved wrong. :D
  3. I'm forced to conclude after seeing the 10 billionth ARMAX vs CODX argument that no game has ever been anywhere near absolutely realistic. What appears to happen though is that with the limited hardware resources available, different people (and game companies) attempt to simulate different components of combat experience. Arma2 has substantially more focus on the macro of combat, and the micro (movement transitions etc) suffers as a corollary. COD attempts to simulate an actionised version of close quarter urban combat (thus focussing on the micro), and because it neglects the macro entirely, feels like what it is, a corridor based shoot-em-up. Its not a zero-sum game, COD works well at having a fluid (and altogether speeded up) urban close quarter combat, where nothing happens further away than 50 metres. Arma2 works well at simulating a battlefield environment, when you want to actually have all the components of a full scale combat environment taking place over a five kilometre battlefield, but as a consequence you can't actually move that fluidly because (gasp) its not just an infantry simulator. Honestly this is like pissing on Company of Heroes because its graphics aren't as good as Call of Duty 2, the fact is, its an RTS and designed to do something totally different, simlulate tactics and strategy. I think that many people are decieved by the fact that MW2 and ARMA2 are both played primarily in first person, that doesn't make them the same sort of game any more than COH and COD2 are the same sort of game. In fact, I tend to view Arma2 as a massive modern strategy game sandbox, in which I happen to be able to play first person... It works for me. :D

    Iranian Forces Mod

Ah freaking awesome, finally some serious Mid-Eastern OPFOR! :D I mean, counter-insurgency is fun, but its like eating snacks when you really want a square meal. ;) This is going to be awesome! The one thing I've got fingers crossed for is an ACE config... :bounce3:

    Arma 3!!! Your Expectations

I'd be happy to play with OA and possibly a second addon for a damn long time if it would mean that when the series returned it did so with a bang. I'd like to see a much more physically grounded feeling world (perhaps some of the movement style of Brothers in Arms (particularly Hell's Highway), though obviously tempered for realism, because a good fluid movement system, even if simulating an encumbered person, is the basis for a world feeling real. Apart from that, deferred lighting and all the newfangled dx11 style tesselation stuff would be good, but honestly, what I'd love is to have an engine that ran fast and efficiently, with a gui faced but powerful editor with the ability to easily set parameters without having to so often revert to scripting (as others have said). Basically though, I'm keen to see if Arma2/OA can play out over the next few years into something like the mod renaissance that seemed to happen over the last 4-5 years of OFP's lifespan. That would show us once and for all what the arma2 engine is truely capable of. :)
  6. New tint UCP looks bang on! :D

    US A-TACS Camo Soldiers

Nice units! Very interesting camouflage scheme this A-TACS stuff, seems like an odd halfway house between ACU/UCP & Multicam, but it certainly looks significantly more effective than UCP. These units blend into Razani & Afghan Village damn well! :D

    Summervegetation

Well after a couple hours playtesting it seems like Summervegetation is compatible with the Proper Low LOD vegetation, at least the LOD visuals on the summer plants appear to be matching up with the original (proper LOD vers) vegetation, also there doesn't appear to be any appreciable FPS hit so I'd say its working! :D

    Summervegetation

Damn this mod and the sheer amount of effort it represents is amazing. The summer vegetation makes Chernarus look almost happy! Out of curiousity, is this compatible with the Proper Low LOD vegetation mod?
  10. I'd say nobody reading this thread would complain about the lack of 2 second updates on the progress of this awesome map. Given I'd say most of the readers like me haven't the slightest clue about 3d modelling, let alone uv mapping, nobody has the right to complain about a pause in updates while someone up-skills to make the addon everyone's waiting for an even better thing to anticipate... :D I say take your time with the updates, I'm so hot to trot over this map that another update might just give me an anticipation related coronary. The fact that the reason is you're learning something most of us wouldn't have the slightest clue how to do just makes it all the more excusable. Can't wait for this one.
  11. This is looking absofreakinlutely awesome. Been playing a lot of custom missions on Razani using CAA1, but looking forward to having some more varied Afghan terrain that has all the Arma2 prettiness, the insane level of terrain detail only looks to make it even better for infantry and small arms combat! :D Roll on the search and destroy missions! So. Cannot. Freaking. Wait. :D
  12. Its a beautiful thing that the dismal failure of an attempted competitor has brought a whole bunch of new people into the Arma fold. Gaming darwinism at work? Coming into the community during what I now know were the comparatively dark days of Arma1 it seems to have definitely grown in size since then and the sheer mammoth efforts (and inter-mod co-operation!) in some of the addons put virtually any other game I could think of to shame. Thanks to CBA providing a broad platform of mod compatibility, arma2 effectively allows one to have modding cake and eat it too! :D The best bit is that with Op. Arrowhead presenting a looming radar ping on the horizon, I only see bigger and better things for the Arma2 community... :D
  13. MERDE! Damn this news sucks total ass. I understand the motivations of FAF though, having your stuff ripped off by the ethically bankrupt does pretty much remove the only motivation that volunteer mod creators have. Just a shame to see another awesome mod bite the dust over this kind of thing, first PUKF & now FAF... Damn, so much quality moddage gone in an instant. :(
  14. Awesome! Finally some VDV for Arma2! :D
  15. Seconding everyone who's said this rocked. This soundmod blows my eardrums in the nicest possible way. ;)

    Namalsk island, v1.10

Was going to say the grass has been killing my fps. I also hadn't quite realised how much I rely on the kju's proper texture mod to bring my fps up too, this map has owned my computer hard (running an 8800GTS 640mb) but damn its pretty. Awesome work! Now I just need to upgrade my damn computer to play on it. ;)
  17. It sucks to see another great mod fall by the wayside. I was waiting patiently and hoping for a full release in Arma2 but I understand the reasons behind not doing so. Well, at least the challenger & some guns will console me a bit.

    BWMod for ArmA II

OMG HELL YEAH! :) Been waiting for news since the first batch of screenies! Cannot wait for this one.
  19. Absolutely amazing mod, P85 looks if anything even better in Arma2 than in Arma1 :D Now I'm off to make the two germanies fight one another for my amusement!

    ArmA2:OHMOD Preview

Awesome work on those guns. Anticipation rating of 10 for 10! :)
  21. I'd go one step further than that and say that Ace1 made Arma the game it should have been from the start. On that note however, the wait for Ace2 is killing me slowly, while the wait is torture the prospect of Ace2 at the end makes it all so worthwhile... So many guns, so much fun... :D

Finaly we have a gpu for arma 2

Got to admit, if Nvidia's upcoming GT300 series gpus don't bring some serious muscle to the table, ATI is going to wipe the floor with them. This card looks (from all I've read) to be pretty stupidly powerful relative to the current Nvidia and ATI cards, while consuming the same or less power than current cards. Looks like it could be a pretty good card for Arma2, but the problem is that Arma2 is so damn CPU intensive you'd need to have an incredibly powerful CPU to be able to not end up bottlenecking the card due to the CPU being overloaded. Anyway the only thing I thought was dumb was the viewdistance settings they tested with, who the hell runs Arma2 with those sort of viewdistances in real life? The least I run with is 3km and I have an absolutely shite rig, I deal with the performance hit cause running with 2km viewdistance is absolutely horrible...
  23. Damn. Can't wait to use these. Those textures are looking damn good! :D

    BlackOps and desert mercs

With all the lapses in realism that are inherent in any game, does one beret really make a difference? In any case the vast majority of people using this are going to be using it in the editor, or in missions made in the editor in which case if the inclusion of a unit with a beret terminally offends you or breaks the game's immersion (you know, more than the AI walking through walls) then nobody is pointing a gun at your head and forcing you to use it. At the end of the day if you don't like it, make your own addon... with blackjack, and hookers. (with apologies to Futurama). ;) I personally am all for having additional variety in the headgear department. :D Man I'm looking forward to the next release of this. Bring on more SF dudes with beards!

    ArmA2 SLA Pack 0.9

Subdued green markings for the win. Why would you go to the trouble of painting an IFV camo and then put a bright red bullseye on it, it might be the national colour but subdued colour schemes are becoming commonplace.
