That statement just had the same effect as watching this video this morning: -

Who? :D -
IMO Realtek and C-Media soundtech cannot really be compared to Creative's, not by far. Anyone tell you 'never had problems with my OC97 sound' has never heard an X-Fi and thus doesnt know what he's missing. Although i admit Creative did some mistakes in the past: - awkward 'drivers' for vista - punishing community programmers for releasing custom drivers that make their cards work - replacing normal plugs for multiplugs (mic, line-in, etc) Here's hope my extreme gamer will run under Win7/64, if not i'll move over to Asus cards who have better driver support (as i heard).

Keep them cool & dust free. And tap them once a day and say 'you did good honey'. Uhm, although rather dont if your GF is around, she might hear it and get the wrong idea. -

I think reviews like Gamespot's show that the view on pc games is shifting away from 'plattform for console ports' to 'plattform for high quality / performance games if done right'. I also think that reviewers have become more reasonable when comparing pc games. It should be pretty clear that developing action shooters like CoD and 'semi-simulations' like ArmA are totally different things, esp when done by companies of totally different dimensions. A2 bugs will be fixed in A3. New $$$ is mostly gained by selling new games, nobody pays for patches. Yet thats what we get from BIS for years and years now, and at the end of the year somebody needs to pay for all this work. -

Has someone mentioned the story yet? In OpF the story and the characters were far more deeper/cooler/simpler to follow and to relate to (as a gamer). In ArmA1 you mostly see some nameless guys shooting/driving around and you're just one of them. In ArmA2 you have the Team Razor characters - a step in the right direction, but everytime they get stuck in the ruined cities / in their vehicles the illusion of 'unique characters' is totally destroyed again. Never finished ArmA2 because of that. OpF was superior in terms of story, maybe because it was simpler. -

Next thing you know they'll charge you for extra fps, 50 bullet mags and a better bullet recognition. Give them the finger and they'll rip your arm off. -
More environment/wildlife sounds (more to do with map design, but hey), i'd like to hear more than just wind. ArmA islands feel so empty, why is that?

I'll wait until it's coming cheap during one of those Steam weeks. Only interested in SP though, sometimes the environment / mission gameplay can be a great inspiration to do something similar for ArmA. -
ArmA3 will still be played when BF3 is long gone. It's like comparing a fine restaurant with McDonalds. One for quality you can always fall back to, one for quick fun.
-
To increase ArmAs smoothness you could either - use 8GB of your 12 GB as a ramdisk and then load PBOs from there or - spend the money on an SSD and install ArmA on it Either way, smoothness will be increased, whereas just buying 12GB wont do anything. I'd go with the SSD solution, cause its the easier one.

Visibility: 2500 Texture detail: normal Terrain detail: low (or very low to switch grass off) Shadow detail: high (so that GPU renders the shadows, not the CPU) HDR quality: low Postprocess: off Vsync: disabled In ArmA2OA.cfg: AtoC: 0 -
Add 'Do you feel sexually attracted to brick walls?' to that lol :D

BF3 only allows you to play scenarios the designers gave you. You just need to fork out some money for DLCs from time to time. ArmA3 allows you to play everything that is possible on todays PCs. You just need to roam the forums and download the community addons from time to time.

Sounds very promising! :) Personally i find Fallujah to be one of the best performing islands atm, a lot better than Zargabad. -
A little preview picture for every object i click on in a dropdown menu. Would help with choosing stuff like buildings, fences, etc etc.
