  1. What's wrong with it? Just type in the 2 letter abbreviation and you're off... Hint: you can find out the country code by hovering the mouse over flag after a search...

    Which is the best anti-virus?

Sophos is a really good AV (with great active support) for more corporate environments. It's not free, not very cheap but does a great job and has good deployment features. I've fixed plenty of a screwed over windows using it. A lot of them did have antivirusses installed (Avg, Antivir, Norton, Mcaffee), most of those installations had no recent definitions. I personally like what Microsoft is doing with their "light" approach at the AV thing in Microsoft Security Essentials. The major benefit i see in it is that it's free, integrates with windows update (thus "forcing" people to keep their system updated) and also very lightweight with a very easy gui. It's also very good at "running a full HD scan while you actually work", with great throtteling features etc. It's more the kind of thing i would install on my grandparents pc and unfortunately a threat to other free solutions. The big downside with all paying solutions is that licences expire and unexperienced (= most vulnerable) users end up with an AV that has 4 year old definitions installed... Some of the nonpaying solutions require registering and actually suffer the same fate. Hence my liking of something integrated with windows update. ---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:51 PM ---------- You're good people :)
  3. It will probably have it's own gamespy name (report to gamespy as a different game)

    Next ArmA - WWII Themed

I wouldn't be against a WW2 Arma, i've allways liked the WW2 mods for OFP and Arma. The big downer for WW2 scenarios is that helicopters didn't quite exist yet (except for some odd test device) However it does have a lot going for it in terms of less effective weaponry, tanks, aircraft. No more fire and forget for anything. However what i would like even better is some 60's or 70's African war.
  6. The only reason i'm asking this is because some users have a locked bios where it simply cannot be disabled... (I know it sucks allready, but as I had reports on it being a lot less of an issue using cpucount=4 it may be usefull for some people to see the difference) I can't test it as i don't have the hardware :P
  7. BIS has put "sync addons" on their changelist for OA. I honestly can't see much more to bark about... And please don't think that I don't care about people that "don't know how it works", I'm betting I've invested A LOT more time in them then you ever will. This is my last post in this "discussion", have a ball, I'm off to play a bit :P (online, and yes i'll enjoy it)
  8. As long as it can let me do stuff I cannot do in other games (just like OFP did) I can never consider this to be a failure, not untill there is not one server I can find to play on. I sincerely don't understand you cannot be bothered with MP A2, given you ever liked the MP in either OFP or Arma1. I don't care if the game doesn't have 100000 players at any given time, I don't need 100000, I need anything from 3-30 and I'll be happy. Anyway, each to their own, but the basic topic title "You can't play this game multiplayer" is rubbish. For me the multiplayer would be a failure if it wouldn't be enjoyable and that's not the case. Sure it could be better and it probably will get better, but that's not keeping me from my weekly online BIS shot.
  9. So where exactly does this differ from Ofp or Arma? How does not having island x differ anything now from then? Anyway it's a pity you don't enjoy the game online. You're missing out. If i understand correctly you have more trouble finding a server that suits your gameplay then having actual problems with the game? Instead of whining about this "problem" you could take matters into your own hands and start your own server with likeminded people. But of course waiting for the dog to bring the newspaper is a much easier and more satisfying option. Could you describe exactly what you want? Maybe the dog does exist but it's a bit lost and cannot find you. By the way i just checked the games running right now and your 90% argument is completely bogus. Tnx for the effects addon, it's totally cool :-)
  10. I'm obviously to stupid to grasp your problem? A2 online is *at least* as fun as OFP/Arma ever were. If you liked Ofp/Arma online you're bound to love A2 online. The restrictions you talk about (i guess you mean signature check??) have vastly ENHANCED online play, reduced cheating and were allready in place in Arma1. So i don't get your point at all.
  11. The first is not possible atm. The server xml stuff you talk about is simply the addonstring that will be set when clicking "required" or "required+optional" in the launch game tab. This way you can put optional stuff (like soundsmods etc) in the required + optional, and leave the really required stuff (islands, units, blabla) in the required thing. The syntax is simply as you would add it in the shortcut (@addon1;@addon2) without the -mod parameter... At the moment AddonSync development is temporarely halted untill OA is released. I don't want to waste time coding something that will likely never be used as it seems BIS is including a sync with OA.
  12. On the i920 HT issue: it would be interesting if someone posted benches with sbsmac's tool for: -HT on, no cpucount param used -HT on, cpucount=4 -HT off I've heard several people claim that cpucount=4 also aides a lot. It might be better for BIS if we split this HT issue thing in a separate topic, so they can focus on their works and not on a general cpu issue.
  13. Any more info? Did it crash once, is it reproducable, did you click stuff or interact with the gui while it was doing stuff, blabla?
  14. Fixed in next version (not released yet) Bis has changed their versioning system...

    New Beta Build 70644 up!

I just tried -DownloadOA=1 and now my Arma2 stopped working! :D

New Beta Build 70709 is up!

Just a small silly question: do you have hyperthreading enabled on that i920? If so try disabling it in bios, then try again. I have had a personal allergy for hyperthreading ever since Intel came up with it years ago. It should be better implemented in the "i" cpu's that have it, but i've seen massive problems with it in lots of different applications/drivers/blabla ever since it was deployed. Most of these problems were performance problems, but some were even crashes of all kinds. This thread has some interesting links if you want to learn some causes.

New Beta Build 70709 is up!

If i understand it correctly: none of both. It changes what's get threaded i think, texture loading, file acces... of course this may change the total number of threads, but probably not in the way you're thinking. For the number of cores you can use -cpucount=4 for 4 cores...
  18. Google for Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 Run it, then remove the msi through the utility. It's a general problem when screwing about with msi installs... ---------- Post added at 09:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:04 AM ---------- Insufficiant rights to install the tool. Disable UAC, try again, run installer as admin.
  19. Still probably the most safe way to uninstall a beta is to simply delete the folder. It may work now, but what if they upgrade and release a new beta. Got screwed over by the uninstaller once in Arma times, never used it again...
  20. Since the latest beta's I keep running into "headless" troops at certain distances. (Just the beta without any addons at all) Anyone else seeing this?
  21. BIS is definately on to something with the new threading stuff. For me option 3 seems to work best (Q9650, 4GB RAM, GTX285) It seriously bumps up the minimum fps. However at one time in an online game i did get one moment of ultralow fps while strafing something in an A10. It felt like something threadingwise cleaning up. This only happened after a 2 hour continuous "gun, land, reload, gun" in an A10 though. Haven't tested with this latest beta, but the previous one did crash a lot when playing with ACEmod. Keep up the great stuff Suma, Maruk and the rest of the team!

    ARMA2.exe process

Please don't point this guy to "Default", trust me you'll be needing "Normal".

    ARMA2.exe process

Try setting video memory and texture details to normal. I don't think your 512MB card can handle the higher options.
