  1. ATM there is no Arma3 announced as far as I know... I'll be happy to look into their take on Carrier Command, but I personally hope they do make a sequal to OA / make an Arma3.
  2. You don't realise the seed of hope you planted sir. However, there are so much issues (MP client sync, blabla) that must hamper really getting there. ---------- Post added at 02:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:16 AM ---------- Allthough they are small compared to bigger studio's, don't underestimate the brains they have.
  3. I don't know if it's possible but it might be nice to colour the weight red when you get over a certain threshold (25-30kg max). This way people get some kind of visual warning before they start running and falling over. Also I think there may be some issues where the stamina system does not "recover" the way it should. Unfortunately i'm not able to reproduce them, but i'm sure someone will be. I can imagine stuff like entering vehicles, certain hill inclinations, certain movements like jumping over fence or changing stance etc. I don't know if,for example, it takes into account going prone and standing up. Each time you check your map you automatically do this, someone running about with 30kg would probably not go lie down and stand back up to check his map. So if it does take this into account, it introduces a bit of a problem..
  4. It might be a good idea to have serverbased configs for the stamina system. (I honestly don't know if this doesn't allready exist, so reject my ramble if it's pointless) -"real" stamina -"semi-real" stamina -"some" stamina -"no" stamina This would save the Aceteam a crapload of rambling by people who just carry too much and shift the rambling to the serveradmins' choices. Personally I like "some" to "semi-real" stamina, there should be limits to what a person can drag along and these limits should have gameplay consequences. However a game (even if it's a sim) has to have a certain fun factor and for some people the current system is too real. It's something that's hard to balance for sure. Don't get me wrong, i can totally live with the current system. The variable itself could be some kind of "factor" where 1= the current system and 0= no stamina. So admins could toy with it.
  5. So they are supposed to know you have a bullocks router? There's probably a trillion things that could cause networking issues. Accept an honest answer when you get one. But good you have your problem solved. (btw you did try to simply restart the router and all connected devices did you?)

How is ARMA 2 doing lately?

It's doing great here :D Just like OFP or Arma1: you buy the game and you keep getting back to it. They are truely the only games that have this (well for me that is).
  7. Good job Terox! We should bundle all knowledge for getting started in one file and have it stickied for noobs!

    Installed ACE , can't join ****

The big joke is this is exactly why i made my tool. I've gotten beyond the "I pity you" point. Can't join a server, look for one without addons. Still want to join that server, contact their forums/admins, use google, don't expect the world to be "i click on this and it works", it's simply not how the world works. I've spent more time coding AddonSync then gaming A2 (it was and is a fun experience), so don't come to me with a "I'm to lazy to get this working"-attitude. There is nothing more i can humanly do to try to ease the problem. That said a "Welcome new player"-thread would be totally awesome for people that do want to invest the (minor) amount of time to get the game working with addons.
  9. cpucount=8 seems to give a lot of people very bad performance. The best solution (for Arma2 and a lot of other programs) is to simply disable hyperthreading.
  10. Maybe change the name of this post into "Arma 2 + SSD + Silly AMD controller= FUBAR" so people don't get the wrong idea about SSD's.
  11. Updated version BETA 1.0.3 is released on dev-heaven http://dev-heaven.net/projects/show/yoma-addonsync2009
  12. If you try launching Arma 2 through my tool, does it tell you to disable hyperthreading? If it does: disable hyperthreading in bios. You'll be amazed.
  13. In Addonsync you can set the addon string manually or by selecting. Check my siggy. You can also save multiple addon sets on a "per server" basis.
  14. A simple yet very game-influential addition to Arma2 would be some "tools" to use on the battlefield. For example wirecutters spring to mind. (So you don't have to make a lot of noise blowing/running over base wire defenses) Just make a small hole where you want it and sneak in with your team. I bet a lot of smallish things like this could really raise the gameplay bar for Arma2 Another one that springs to mind is stuff like crowfeet/road spikes to rollout to disable passing cars wheels.
  15. The easiest bridge that could be built is a linux based repogenerator for addonsync so the repo's can be rsync'ed to other servers. I could also hack in basic support for downloading the stuff from six repo's, but that would be bugprone, reinventing the wheel and potentially hard to keep up to date when six repo styles change. Another route i've been thinking about/testing is a P2P approach which, given enough popularity, would totally remove the big bandwidth factors that come with popular mod releases. We'd just need a few seeding servers to provide the files when noone else is downloading. Would be nice if people list popular P2P networks that accept "new files".
  16. I think my tool is better for Game Servers (it's easier for people without access to rsync on server to manage their own repository). But sixboys atm might be better for "general mod distribution", due to enhanced mirroring support. There is a very big difference between both things. The difference is that game server admins need to manage THEIR repo and six's is more pointed at general repo's with mirroring. Also the comparison is not really fair as Six's is the default ACE distribution method, so surely it will get more votes in this poll. Other then that I must say that AddonSync is getting quite popular too. Last release had 5000+ downloads. There is no point in a "which one is better thread" ,neither of both applications are perfect. It's great to have multiple options so people that run into issues with either of the apps still have a possibility for synchronizing their files. You can see this very well in the ACE2 beta release threads.
  17. Addonsync's launcher part autodetects the number of REAL cores on your cpu and preselects the "maximal value". It also warns people with hyperthreading enabled (core I7!) that this is not optimal for A2.

    What Mouse For ArmA2?

I have a MS sidewinder too, it's light, not too big, has excellent tracking. On top of all that it has 2 very handy buttons you can use with your right thumb, without having to really move it a lot. The good thing is that these sidebuttons are "vertical" so you can easily push the right one very naturally. I went into a shop where they had multiple mice on display and i just took the one that felt best in my hand. Very pleased with it and it wasn't very expensive.
  19. AddonSync2009 has both features + saveable per server profiles (modsets) + add servers by looking for them on Gamespy, i think Spirited Machine's launcher can also do this, and maybe this one too? It can also launch dedicated servers (a great timesaver if you're into MP mission editing with addons).
  20. To test your browser you could simply make a batchscript that only has the url to the file and run it. That's basicly what the tool does via process.start
  21. All the update button does is open the browser that windows considers the default browser and browse to the link. So this may boil down to browser security settings, or some strange behaviour of some browsers (like Chrome that has no FTP implemented). The Chrome remark is not really relevent as the files reside on HTTP. If I ever get the time I might look into downloading the file "manually", that would also open up some better upgrade options (like exit the tool on download completion)
  22. Ingame link? By the way what browsers are you guys using to download it?
  23. I've actually been thinking about providing an interface inside AddonSync to six's but then again it might not be needed and could cause all sorts of hassles if some basic mechanisms change. I'd rather spend time on progressing my own thing then halting development to make it compatible with another system. The mayor benefit in this is that if for some people six's won't work, Addonsync might be a fix and visa versa. Just getting Rsync to work under windows on all versions is (most unfortunately) a major timeloosing hassle. A note for the critics: I understand what you're saying, but unfortunately we have to make system(s) to assure wellwilling users to have the correct files to play on a server. Don't use it if you don't like it and feel competent you can get all the correct files in the correct spot yourself (allthough there is no real way of doing that). "The old way" as you call it never really worked, takes tons of time from server admins and creates a lot more mismatching file mayhem then you can imagine. That is the very reason updaters/downloaders are made. Other then that there is nothing in the world stopping people from trying to do better/enhance the current systems.
