    AI starting in water !!

Jump in the ocean with a full combat load and you'll sink like a stone. umbr44 is right, it's to simulate dropping at least some of your equipment to stay afloat. BIS put swimming in the game mostly for the cases in which you have to bail out of an aircraft over water. To insert guys from the sea, use the CRRC.

How do I make my own groups?

Yeah it's far more trouble than it's worth. There is a cheap workaround though...open up the desert island, manually create your high-skill squad, then save the mission. You can then either merge it into the main mission you're working on or just copy/paste the squad in.

    MPMissions Cache

AFAIK and like Nepumuk said, the folder is only created if you join a game that's running a mission you do not have a pbo file for on your computer. OFP automatically downloads the mission file and places it there. It would only show up if you have joined somebody else's multiplayer game running a mission you do not have on your HD. It's possible you've never joined one that required OFP to download for you. In any case don't keep reinstalling and hope it shows up...if you've been connecting and playing and don't see it, you haven't needed it yet, and when you do, OFP will handle it automatically.

    As good as OFP's?

I don't see anybody trolling, or flaming. It's a frank discussion on OFP versus ArmA and they disagreed with what I said, is all. 4 in 1 was...incredulous. That is trolling/flaming.

    As good as OFP's?

When I talk about soul I'm talking about a quality within the game itself, right out of the box, that inspires people to spend months creating scripts, missions, and thousands of addons that will never be featured in a mission. OFP had that because of all the things I mentioned and the sheer originality and brilliance of it all. There's no way to know what the community is going to come up with for ArmA but I feel like whatever it is, it's can't possibly be as groundbreaking as figuring out how to edit BIS models was, for example. I mean, we can't do that yet but people are importing their own models into ArmA - and have been doing so in OFP for years - so it's not the same stumbling block that it was in OFP. But to repeat myself I don't see that same spark to break down all the barriers and dive deeper into the game's environment. That's the soul that I'm referring to, the quality the game has to drive us all to do that. They'll patch it, I'll play it, but it's going to take quite a bit to unseat OFP as my #1. *edit* Remember this? "...they're saying our wave will be the easiest, but I don't believe them...they always say that..." "Well I'm not afraid! ..." "This is NOT an exercise, and I don't wanna see you going home in a box..." I got the OFP demo out of a PC Gamer magazine, fired it up, and was blown away...at the end of the mission you're floating down by parachute into the middle of an enemy armored force...will you run? Will you hide? Will you fight? After it faded out I sat stunned for another two minutes. Where's the ArmA equivalent of "Ambush?"

    As good as OFP's?

Let's put it this way: ArmA has a long way to go before I start playing it regularly. OFP 1.96 is still a much more enjoyable experience for the time being. My main problem with it is that this game has no soul like Flashpoint did. Flashpoint was a microcosm of World War 3, which to a degree is a fantastic (as in, fantasy-like, the real meaning of the word) idea. The setting and the units lent themselves to people making missions within that timeframe that capitalized on the whole Cold War idea. Invading Malden was a serious undertaking! The US and the Russians fighting!?! People could play out these hypothetical WW3 missions and scenarios over and over again because it is this mysterious and awesome (as in, inspiring awe) thing that thankfully never happened. Do you think Facile Ground would be just as good if ported verbatim to ArmA? ArmA is just a bunch of guys with sparse equipment on some unappealing island...I don't see any sort of larger context to it than that. It's random Communists against random...other guys. I get no sense from ArmA of fighting for anything other than the real estate under my character's boots. Don't confuse that with any sort of Vietnam-vibe, though. Sahrani isn't big enough or significant enough to evoke that feeling of a major military effort for the wrong reason or no reason, like Vietnam. So when I want to run around shooting enemies for a few minutes, I play BF2 because it's mindless entertainment. When I want to get engrossed in an imaginary world where captivating storytelling is possible, I play OFP. ArmA doesn't fit in either category and as such I don't yet play it regularly. I find that the biggest US servers are playing Berserk, which is basically BF2. And BF2 does what BF2 does a lot better than ArmA can do it. BIS will fix recoil values, scripting stuff, performance issues...but I don't know if they can give it a soul. I hope I'm wrong.

    Voice Actor for Hire

I've had a long-standing offer up at the OFPEC boards but as that site is slowing down of late I figured I'd put it up here as well. I'm a 22-year-old American dude with four years' experience in radio news, willing to do your voice acting! I have a slight New England accent but can ham it up to your liking if necessary (read: drop all my R's). My voice is fairly deep and I can put on a pretty good "command voice" as well, which I did for General Barron's handsignals/shouting command interface and Sui's "Black Gap." Feel free to send me PMs, post here, shoot me an email at nremies1@gmail.com , use smoke signals, whatever, with your voice acting needs. Over at OFPEC I thought it would be neat to get a sticky with all willing voice actors listed but it never panned out...perhaps all those willing to do voice work could post in this thread as well? Sorry if this isn't exactly the right place but it's the best fit that I could figure.

    Mapfact releases: AH-64A and CH-47D v1.08

The rescue thing was also done a few times with Cobras in Vietnam...the ammo bay doors below the cockpit fold out and form little shelves that a couple of guys could cram onto in a pinch. Nice job on both birds, although I agree that you might have gone a bit overboard with the various weapons loadouts

    USMC AAV-7

Has anybody released a USMC AAV-7 besides Tales of War? We have 3 or 4 solid choices for USMC infantry but still no nicely updated track for them to ride in. I've seen nothing but teaser screenshots and foreign versions (Spain, Argentina, Italy...) since TOW released theirs. Does anybody have one? Anybody at all?

    1UP Review Gives Arma 6.7

I gave ArmA a 10 on that page just to jack up the user rating a bit more. I'd give it a 7 at the moment but we all know it's going to get much better with time.

Hyk modern u.s. infantry pack released

3 cheers for bumping old topics, but... Is there any quick fix I can make to solve the problem of seeing the goggles in first-person view whenever I'm in a vehicle? It doesn't matter what vehicle it is, BIS, addon, whatever, but it's fairly annoying when trying to man an MG on a Humvee. What can I do to fix this?
  17. AdmiralKarlDonuts

    USMC AAV-7

He's working on one, but so were like 40 other people before their mod teams folded and they dropped the projects. No updates in that thread since October means it's not coming out anytime soon. And before anybody trots out the old "well, do one yourself" response, realize that those of us with no talent in creating addons rely on those of you who have the talent to get this stuff done.

    Canister Rounds

And depending on how many smaller rounds you create with every shot things can get laggy...I believe LSC made a shotgun that operated like this and I always got lag when filling people with buckshot at close range. Edit - here for ofp of course, but you can see the workaround in action...

    Cold War Rearmed Discussion

I realize you folks aren't recruiting anymore but I figured it couldn't hurt to say that if you need any voice acting done at some point I'd be happy to help. Just throwing that out there.

ArmA shipped May 1st to be sold in Stores (*NOT)

I got my copy at an EB but they had very few of them in stock. I don't think they expect it to sell well.

    Beta 1.07.5154 feedback thread

What would the problem be? I'm not suggesting a smooth flip-up animation, just an up/down kind of thing. They already do something similar with magazines: in or out, and on the SAW and M240, bullets in the feed or no bullets in the feed.

    Beta 1.07.5154 feedback thread

Everything looks very nice but my small nitpick is this: wouldn't the flip-up GL sight completely obstruct your use of the ACOG? Is it possible to animate the sight so that it's down when you have the rifle selected and up when using the GL? Looks kind of dumb as-is. Also, the little police jeep is crammed full of US Army ammunition? M203 rounds, M24 mags, etc. It also appears that the M16A4 burst ROF has been fixed...very nice. *edit* Javelin behavior fixed too!!! It top-attacks now! Woohoo! Now just add it to an ammo crate and create a Heavy AT class and we're good to go! My nitpick about the Jav, though, is that the optics part should be hidden when it's on your back because it clips through your head and looks foolish...the RPG rocket is hidden when slung on the shoulder, just do the same thing with the Jav. *edit2* My AI buddy just killed a stationary T72 with a Jav at a range of 890 yards. w00t.

    ArmA Disappointing

After playing a couple more SP missions today I'm not satisfied with the way the game feels like mud when in an infantry firefight. I feel like the weapon sway and recoil make it almost impossible for me to hit anything without taking half a damn minute to line up the shot, hold my breath, and fire. The AI of course does not have this problem and they're all still AK snipers - by the time I get one round off they've already killed half my guys with accurate bursts from 200 yards. I don't get how their crappy AKs can put three rounds in my head while the bursts I fire from my M4 or M16 are still way off in terms of ROF and the rounds seem to disperse like the old JAM HD weapons. I'd be better off throwing my rifle at the enemy at this rate. Plus if I go prone the grass obscures my vision - not theirs - and causes lag. At least in OFP I could hit what I shot at most of the time. What's the magic trick for hitting stuff in ArmA?

    ArmA Disappointing

Am I mistaken, when I believe that no one of the community members which are working on CWR will be paid? The game itself cant be worth it's cost, because the only thing that was sold 2006 is a bugged engine then. You're right, but if spending $40 gives me a temporarily bugged engine that will eventually be fixed and tons of community-made content, so be it. Very few people who made addons or missions for OFP got paid, but some of their work was better than BIS quality...we all had to buy the game to use any of that content...them's the breaks.
