Well so much for realistic equipment anyway...
Maddmatt replied to Hovis's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
We've had M4s and M16s as the standard US weapons in all previous BIS games, it makes a nice change IMO. It's not as ridiculous as BF: Bad Company using a weapon that was cancelled ages ago... It's easy enough for a mission designer to change anyway. -
Whether or not the game itself is realistic, that's one of the most advanced car physics engines around (based on the one used in rFactor and the GTR games). The other NFS games (the ones made by EA Black Box) have a relatively simplistic physics model though.

ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
Maddmatt replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Wouldn't it be unrealistic for soldiers to randomly enter people's houses and other civilian buildings? As far as I know that only happens if they need to or suspect an enemy is there... I think it's understandable for BIS to intentionally stop the AI from randomly going inside buildings. Although it would be good if that changed when they went into combat. -
They published and funded it. But Remedy was the developer. I guess they kept the rights to the name and now want to use it to make their own game. Now where have we seen this situation before? ;)

Haha hopefully. At least give the man his hair back and shave off the hobo beard :p

You're looking at some very old screenshots and a page that hasn't been updated since the announcement a year ago. After the reception the announcement received, they probably pushed the release date back so that they could change things. Notice it hasn't been shown at E3 (as far as I know). It's not even made by the same people. Maybe we'll get Alan Wake on the PC sometime, I'm sure that's closer to Max Payne as far as storytelling goes since it's made by Remedy and they have the same writer, Sam Lake, on the team.

Hey be thankful you don't have to put up with them in person! Some moron(s) in my neighbourhood keep blowing them at random times. I was working for a company doing the timing system for the Comrades Marathon (popular 90km marathon here). Most of the day I was surrounded by fans going wild with vuvuzelas, enough to drive a normal person insane :p The world cup is unfortunately making them more popular. Everywhere we have idiots blowing them randomly :butbut:

user input frozen when killed during typing on the map
Maddmatt replied to eggbeast's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I doubt you'll find it in a script. It's probably coded in the executable. -
Aim at something further away and you'll see it is accurate. You can turn it off in the difficulty options though.

Great to see you working on ArmA 2 stuff, I had a lot of fun with Dynamic War in ArmA :) Do you have plans for other islands and/or to update the Panthera version? Asking because personally, I don't like Isla Daula. Too flat and barren for my liking. I seem to get blasted by some kind of artillery not long after I'm spotted. This seems to happen way to quickly and accurately. Also, instead of the scripted artillery that you're using now, what about implementing the Artillery Module? More realistic, more features. Only played it a little so far. In my few attempts I was killed by artillery pretty soon each time.

With the driving the way it is, adding manual gears would make it one hell of an awful experience. First the driving mechanics and physics need work.

Joining a local sports club isn't as dangerous as jacking cars, blowing shit up and beating up random people. Sure you might get hit in the head by a cricket ball or hurt when being tackled in rugby, but compared to getting shot it doesn't seem so bad :p I suppose companies like EA don't like providing a service that isn't bringing in a profit. For games that already struggle to bring in huge numbers of people online this will kill the communities faster.

I don't get why people buy games of things they can easily do in real life, like soccer and cricket... Anyway, I certainly wont be paying for that crap. At least there's (barely) enough good PC games to avoid it. EA has always been crap when it comes to online support for their games, like shutting down the online play after maybe two years (not sure of the exact timing) or after the next in the series is released. I wonder if these games will also get their online play shut down after a while, ripping off people who paid for an online pass.

I've been playing AC2 myself, and would definitely recommend people buy it if it wasn't for the DRM. Much better than the first. Not an issue for console players though.

I loved the series and was a big fan until Double Agent. I was looking forward to it until it came out and I tried the demo on PC. Man it sucked badly. Apparently the version for the PS2 and Xbox made by the Montreal team was actually good. If only they just took that and ported it to the "next gen" systems with enhanced graphics. Conviction looks awesome but damn it's amazing how dumbed down some aspects are. The silhouette to show where the enemies think you are, I mean come on. Part of the excitement of a stealth game is working this out for your self. And the "mark and execute" is the biggest shock of all. How are gamers and the press so excited about a feature that is basically just letting the game take control from the player and kill the enemies for you. Come on, if you don't want to control the character then go watch a movie. Regardless of those stupid features it does look like a good game to me. I'm not keen on paying full price though, not with that copy protection system. Agreed.

Yea, wouldn't it be awesome if we could walk home in the middle of the night with no security cameras spying on us, no police officers infringing on our freedom, and no oppressive gun laws to stop violent morons from shooting at us to steal our money. What a wonderful free society that would be, just like Somalia :)

Why convert them and risk losing quality? Most decent music players should handle the ogg format just fine.

Maybe something is wrong with your joystick, should get it tested... Sorry couldn't resist :D

Bohemia Interactive's future ARMA 3!
Maddmatt replied to MulleDK19's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
But sometimes opinions are stupid when you look at the facts. 64-bit is still hardly used these days and not needed for ArmA 2. 2 light sources? Looking at all the towns lit up at night I don't think that's right... Edit: Oh you mean shadows. The lack of a feature doesn't mean they can't do it. ArmA 2 is already very demanding. Many of your suggestions would mean more resources are needed to run it smoothly. Or the game world and scale of missions is drastically reduced. But I'm sure we'll see all that stuff in future games. -
X-fi xtreme gamer vs asus xonar in arma 2
Maddmatt replied to breacherman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
ArmA 2 uses software sound (as is the norm these days, sadly) so the sound card really only affects the sound quality as well as any sound card features you use. Those problems sound more like multiplayer synchronisation not working as it should. If it can be reproduced then it should be reported as a bug. The car horn one is a known bug. -
She's getting senile and handing awards to the wrong people :D
-
Exactly. As long as it has more depth than COD I'll consider it.
-
It's just like the people why said ArmA was a copy of BF2. They see some similar stuff and make assumptions. MW2 was just the same stuff as the previous games but shinier with some extra gimmicks. All you need is mass advertising any everybody buys it thinking it's something new and special. I'm looking forward to this new MOH game. It does seem to stay closer to reality instead of trying to be some crazy Hollywood movie, at least that's the impression I get from what I've read about it. Notice the action in the trailer never goes overboard, it's a little more authentic looking. I'm sure it's no ArmA, no doubt it will be a relatively simple action game. But some realistic elements can make it more unique than COD.

Most Anticipated PC Game of 2010 - Help give Arrowhead a boost!
Maddmatt replied to KeyCat's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well we can't deny that ArmA 2 has problems of it's own, but unlike COD it provides a unique experience that no game from another developer can provide. A real battle over a large environment with team mates as opposed to some tightly scripted attempt at imitating Hollywood :) Nothing comes close. The problems bring it down a bit but it's still the top game in my opinion. I don't agree with all of your points there, but they have been debated many times already in this forum. -
Mechwarrior: Living Legends released! (Crysis mod)
Maddmatt replied to no use for a name's topic in OFFTOPIC
Does it work with Crysis Warhead/Wars? And does it have decent singleplayer?
