    Operation E3

I am not sure this was already discussed in the open somewhere but there is one massive change being done under the hood of Arma 3: migration from PhysX 2.x to PhysX 3..X . This may sound trivial but in reality it is basically switching to completely new physical simulation system with all consequences (a lot of work lost, delay of the entire development schedule). But we decided to make this transition, otherwise Arma 3 would be locked to PhysX 2.x for long time. It was basically now or never for the game... The transition phase is on-going and neither PhysX 2 nor PX 3 branch are really tuned or polished at the moment. Also, physical libraries only do part of what is needed and in no way guarantee that everything is going to react as it should: a lot of work on simulation, tweaking, testing, tweaking, AI routines, tweaking, fixing, testing is required with any type of physical simulation and in case of game this complex it really takes a lot of time and effort.

Army of the Czech Republic DLC

When we grabbed screen shots on powerful PC with perfect settings and process the properly so they look fine, users complained that it is not how their game look on their systems. This time we grabbed them on crap PC with terrible settings and saved them with bad compression, and now you complain as well. Hard to understand you, people  Price of the DLC is going to be the same as with BAF and PMC (you can have one cockpit less plane or few recycled mp maps in DLCs to some other games for similar price point :) And of course we intend to release free ACR Lite content. We believe it worked great for PMC and BAF and this release should be no different (except for the new terrain, which contains a lot of data, it may not be be best idea to include it in the patch due to size and relatively limited art quality).
  3. Ok, accepted and our policy reverted back to what it was before. We are going to consider if and what "useless" scripting functions or engine features could be added next. Obviously the great Arma editing community can always find smart use even for what initially seemed to be just waste of time .
  4. Yes, the maps and post cards are exactly the same as what is bundled in boxed Arma X.
  5. Our apologies for adding the new "useless scripting commands" that seems to bother so many users in this topic. I will make sure this is never going to happen again and please understand that it was not our intention to make you any troubles by including these commands (note that it is generally quite easy and in development time absolutely insignificant, these were already present in TKOH anyway so really no big deal porting it to OA code branch). Main reason for this beta are not these command but significant fixes in MP (esp. of some issues newly created by the previous beta) which may not be too clear from the change log as we do not include there fixes of issues introduced by betas.
  6. Happy birthday, ZX Spectrum :) Hard to believe it is 30 years ago only. It is unbelievable that Carrier Command was available on ZX Spectrum in its full glory: How can this be done with 3.5 MHz CPU and 128 KB of total memory?
  7. Good to read feedback related to whether we should or should not patch or influence of zombies to our patching strategies. DayZ is not only very popular but also stress test some aspects of Arma netcode very much so it certainly pushed some net code fixes beyond of what could be possible without it. Hopefully 1.61 can be another milestone for Arma 2, esp. in terms of multiplayer as it is really our focus right now. We are very interested in feedback related to multiplayer in general, with join in progress and voice over net being the areas we believe could benefit the most (or maybe suffering from some unwanted side effects?). The mp related fixes in recent betas are really deep, sometimes we fixed one bug just to find another one was hiding behing it. What initially started as simple effort to make selectPlayer mp compatible (it was not really designed to be mp compatible originally) has led into really significant netcode changes and it is really important to see it has not break anything before we can release final 1.61. There are no other plans for 1.61 and we consider it feature complete, we want to roll it up as final patch soon.
  8. Yes. The vegetation LOD fix should be only one beta away
  9. What is the exact location where you run the setup files from?
  10. Partially fixed is probably more descriptive based on the DH ticket info.
  11. Unfortunately the CTD are side effect of the smoother lod transition. So we are going to disable it for now so that more important MP issues can be tested and get back to LODs in future betas. Thank you for reporting, new beta incoming.
  12. Interesting, but would not be so sure it is really directly LOD system related problem. I tried to raise this several times internally without any result, but yes, this is not very nice. In case, no related work was done on this patch, but trees LODing is possibly improved significantly.
  13. To clarify: LOD blending is related to tress/bushes LOD system only as there is no LOD blending on other objects at all. It is completely unrelated to other LOD problems that may or may not be present (not possible to say what is the exact problem you are experiencing and if it is something that could be fixed or something that is more a feature than a bug, random general rants about "this all has been broken for too long, oh so lazy developers, they do not care" simply do not lead any progress).
  14. The THD version is published through nvidia and updates unfortunately take a bit longer there. But in the end, both versions are kept on the same level. You could easily update the free version to full directly from the game, btw. But you are right, it can be confusing atm.
  15. Unlike most (all?) attempts to follow up on the original Carrier Command, our game is focused very much on the open style free form gameplay of the original. Even the story driven campaign mode, designed partially as an introduction to Carrier Command, does not limit player's freedom entirely, esp. in its later stages that are fairly similar to strategy mode in its game mechanics.

    Anyone try the Android version?

Available now for any Android device (free download, optional in app purchase).
  18. Java Virtual Machine should allow you to use various programming languages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_JVM_languages Java, Lua and Ruby are some of the contenders (just note that in-house we test Java only so far).
  19. No. Take On Helicopters were selected as the platform of choice to test drive Java before it can be released as part of Arma 3 for several reasons.
  20. We have turned black our bistudio.com websites 18th January for 12 ours to protest against SOPA and PIPA. We apologize for any inconvenience but we believe the matter is serious enough to justify temporary shutting down our key community services to divert attention of as many people as possible to what seems to be short sighted and potentially dangerous legislation. Significant part of our user base is living in the USA and we want them to realize that for example these forums and many other great community websites surrounding Arma may become victims of SOPA and PIPA one day. We also hope that people in other countries will realize freedom on the Internet really matters. Thank you for your support.
  21. It is not that bad. The only real problem found for Operation Arrowhead / Combined Operations was for users of Steam where for some reason wrong BAF signature was present but this is already fixed and the fix will apply automatically. Other problem is for Arma 2 1.11 only (ie without Arrowhead) with incorrect signature, users of Combined Operations are not affected. Rest can be considered as optional, nice to have, plus does not have any impact on mp compatibility in any way.
  22. Valve time is ticking, ticking... should not take much longer.
