Day Z Announced as standalone title.
Iroquois Pliskin replied to Placebo's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
Developing for next-gen derpboxes is the best justification for it: the coming Xbox 720 might have Windows 8 at its core, so there's no reason why a locked-down RV game can't run on such a platform, without dragging the PC version down. If M$ does its job right, performance should be equivalent to current gen middle spec hardware. -

I know the Tung intimately, so there's no irony here. There needs to be a dynamic range of counters for sustained, FUN gameplay. Everybody should take a peek at this list http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?132745-Is-Arma-3-authentic Seems very balanced, though they haven't revealed AA platforms yet. An L-159 will be a joy to fly, if it's an Opfor jet, and I bet it can outmaneuver, or at least match the Blufor's F-35. http://www.abload.de/img/arma3_screenshot_1202sp5of.jpg vs http://www.abload.de/img/330569_23071696697504i8u5i.jpg Ka-60 will become the new UH-1Y Venom with its 14 FFAR rockets, http://www.abload.de/img/arma3_screenshot_11051sv0o.jpg This Hamok beast seems a bit suspicious, http://www.abload.de/img/258018_19664964371510dje3e.jpg Let's hope those aren't 12 Vikhr missiles; I counted 44 rockets in both pods. Speaking of competitive (weapons) controls, I've answered a few questions on what and why can or can not be done in the examples that you've provided, http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?139228-Controls-Scheme-amp-User-Interface-Feedback&p=2221842&viewfull=1#post2221842 -
GTX 550 Ti is an old gfx card, a 560 has 1.5x the shader processing cores of the 550 Ti, both cards should be in the same price range. Another option is a Radeon HD 6850, if you can find one (previous generation, thus discontinued), though the current gen Radeon HD 7770 is a better solution. It's 560 > 6850/7770 > 550 Ti in terms of performance. The first three could afford you medium to high settings at 720p. You pick. :) ---------- Post added at 21:21 ---------- Previous post was at 21:11 ---------- http://www.amazon.de/Sapphire-HD7770-Grafikkarte-Speicher-mini-DisplayPort/dp/B00761YFGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347398099&sr=8-1 or http://www.amazon.de/XFX-Dissipation-Edition-Grafikkarte-DisplayPort/dp/B00792VT98/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1347398143&sr=8-4 Good deal I'd say, bro. :)

New VR Headest actually looks viable for average gamers
Iroquois Pliskin replied to BobcatBob's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Probably not, though a global solution by AMD/Nvidia through their graphics drivers is another alternative. Details on Sony's HMZ-T2 - second generation, brJHhsKvahE Still no headtracker, same 720p OLED screens @ 45 degrees FOV, better ergonomics, no built-in headphones and reduced weight, compared to HMZ-T1. Stick a TIR on it and it should work, though the deciding factor for me would be, whether or not the second gen has that frigging huge receiver-bypass box that Sony uses, which sends the signal to the HMD from PC. ---------- Post added at 20:24 ---------- Previous post was at 20:04 ---------- Oculus recruiting for their R&D and production base, http://oculusvr.com/careers/ Rift at PAX Prime expo, zNo8jNJBQXI -
ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions

Is it only ArmA II, without Operation Arrowhead - just to make sure it's not ArmA II Combined Operations? 1.02 is a very old version, try 1.00 to 1.09, http://www.arma2.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=20&id=510%3Aarma-2-patch-1-00-to-1〈=en Then after patching to 1.09, you need the latest, which is 1.11 for ArmA II - http://www.arma2.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=20&id=777%3Aarma2-patch-1〈=en 1.00 to 1.09 (Which includes all versions in between) 1.05 to 1.11 (Includes 1.09) :) -

What do you personally expect from ArmA III? Really, be objective here: ragdoll physics and weight/physics simulation for vehicles is a MAJOR change, two new islands, with Stratis being 64 km^2, the other is 400 km^2, both fully populated in a new setting - have you even seen the footage on Lemnos? PvP is being reworked with major changes to controls, animations, a new competitive stance system, new comprehensive inventory and backpack system, customizable character equipment, new HUD(s); underwater combat, naval combat, diving; completely new sets of units, vehicles, weapons, fully moddable and modular primary weapons, various other miscellaneous equipment plus a new campaign - what else do you need?! I konfused. ---------- Post added at 18:54 ---------- Previous post was at 18:52 ---------- ROFL. LMAO. In the context of the above features, which I have described. LOL ---------- Post added at 18:58 ---------- Previous post was at 18:54 ---------- Dayum, forgot to mention the Devs responsible for the graphical changes to the engine, mIwfS8uJJIk Justice restored! P.S. This is fun, I may keep adding features to the list, as I keep recalling them. -

You're talking about Capture The Island in ArmA, which works on a similar basis, though instead of having to reduce the other team's "tickets", victory conditions in Warfare are either to destroy the enemy base or capture all towns. Gameplay spans across the whole island, with each team starting out with a HQ vehicle to construct the base with, limited supplies and arsenal, then as they acquire more resources/towns, upgrades can be done and new factories can be built to buy (spawn) anything from a simple Humvee M2 at the Light Vehicle Factory to M1 tanks and artillery from Heavy Vehicle factory, to transport and attack helicopters at Air Factory. Usually it has been 32-40 players per server, 16v16, or 20v20, but each player can purchase on average 10 AI infantry, or AI crews for all types of vehicles, so that makes it 32 x 10 = 320 units from players alone, not counting the 3rd insurgent force in the uncaptured towns. Uncaptured towns at the start of the game are occupied by a 3rd force, which is AI, though later most of the action is PvP between Opfor and Blufor and their armies of AI. There are a lot of settings for this particular mission, and AI for both teams can be disabled or reduced to 3 per player, for an example. P.S. A human commander on each team can tend to the crucial stuff, like building the base, setting up base defenses and upgrading technology, so everyone else can focus on fighting 99% of the time. Link to Warfare BE download, http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?138805-Warfare-BE It used to be played 24/7 with full servers, not sure about the current multiplayer climate, but you can try it out alone vs AI to get the hang of its features and sides, which are very competitively balanced in terms of equipment, BTW. -

Yeah, it was a mix of problems, Benny had had it with ACE 2 scripts bugging the mission and decision went out to stick to vanilla Taki with units from the expansion and the original game. In Warfare's case, Benny later modded the M6 Linebacker with Tunguska's missiles, and then nobody had aircraft, but we played on. xD -

Iroquois Pliskin replied to LockDOwn's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
On CTI: We had awesomely populated and competitive public PvP with full servers across the board courtesy of Benny and his Warfare, and the ACE 2 developers: ACE 2 was necessary to fix the Tunguska issue along with many other disbalances, Benny provided a Warfare ACE 2 version for every island at that time: Cherno, Utes, Isla Duala, Quesh Kibrul, Everon even! Servers were full 24/7, then came Operation Arrowhead and split the community. From ArmA II original release, the most important issue was the lack of aircraft flares in vanilla, so by installing Op Arrowhead, people didn't see further need in ACE 2, and so vanilla Benny Edition Taki Warfare, which had units from ArmA II USMC, Russian Federation, Taki opfor, Nato forces, became the gamemode of choice. Without Ben, Taki would've been dead due to disbalance. I mean, does anyone even remember what Quesh Kibrul is? Awesome island, so many intense hold-the-line & flanking and counter-flanking (in boats, helicopters, on foot) games on it. -

Yeah, all mappable actions are valid and user's preference, I'm just throwing suggestions into the pool for BIS to fish out. Knowing their mindset would help a lot, i.e. perhaps they're more focused on public (competitive) multiplayer in ArmA III, so chat functions would be under the spotlight: Y key for Global, U key for Team (side) chat would make sense - hit Y and you can start typing instantly. Channel cycling would still be on , & . in order to retain VOIP functionality. This is CS layout, I'm sure many use this particular one in various games, when such options are available. :P -

That's rather obvious, how's that ArmA II multiplayer playin' out fer ye? Can you even find 10 full PvP servers, which are not DayZ? Rhetorical question, don't go lookin'! -
Controls Scheme & User Interface Feedback
Iroquois Pliskin replied to HKFlash's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Ya, I was thinking about that earlier. Numpad and anything East of the G key is not really feasible, due to the player being forced to take his left hand off WASD. The string of keys: T-Y-U-I-(maybe-O) is the most viable group, but for what? Could it be used for AI command, once the number of command groups is reduced to 4 (or 5)? Although, if AI command wouldn't be comfortable for such map, then individual keys could be employed for often-used actions, i.e.: T key to cycle between secondary sights and optics of the primary weapon, but it's already mappable from the Numpad / key in Operation Arrowhead. I'd map "Y" to flashlight/IR pointer activation, since the L key out of reach; U key for "Step Over". Index & the thumb fingers would do most of the action in the T-Y-U-I-O group case. Either way, number key row is reserved for weapon and equipment selection (in my dream). :p -

These people hardly play online, I can tell. Tunguska is a problem, if we remove the Tunguska from the mission, then Blufor jets dominate ground targets, since there's no alternative to Tunguska, with the closest downgrade being the Shilka, while Blufor sports Avengers and M6 Linebackers. Tung + jets = Blufor ragequits; No tung + jets = opfor ragequits, no tung + no jets = What's the point of ArmA then? ---------- Post added at 13:48 ---------- Previous post was at 13:47 ---------- Wow, mission design issue, then good luck cultivating an online community with such attitude and concepts. ---------- Post added at 13:55 ---------- Previous post was at 13:48 ---------- I mean, how thick can people be? We're discussing MULTIPLAYER, if you want an S-300, or 400, or a tunguska, or an ICBM in your fetish single player missions or closed 10 player communities, then by all means, mod your vanilla game! But to appease the fetishists at the expense of the rest is financial ruin. -

Myke, lay off the plants. :P We're discussing how it currently is, and there's precedent and danger, that such "realism" will make its way into ArmA III - I will not stand for that, so I have to baby sit people here, explaining rather obvious concepts. I can tell, that you haven't played a single PvP mission involving a Tunguska. Good luck catching a Tung on foot, or even finding it when it sits with engine off in some bush. Unlike grounds targets, aircraft are fish in a barrel: the skies are clear, birds and other UFOs don't show up on Tung's radar, your jet DOES, thus TAB+click. -
