I still don't understand the hostility people, do we want another ArmA splitting the already small milsim playerbase and even our own attentions/communities? Isn't this the best we might have hoped for; an accessible introduction that will expose more people to the genre? The name "Operation Flashpoint" was lost a long time ago, no point in staying bent out of shape about it.

It was always very unlikely to compare well to ArmA (for this audience at least) but that's good. The last thing I want is to be torn between two ArmA's, what's far more useful in my book is a good-looking & smooth-running shooter that's approachable and yet retains strong milsim elements, a hardcore COD4/BF2 if you like. This is something I can play with friends who don't have the patience for ArmA and I'm looking forward to that.

Uh... aren't we forgetting a 5km view distance? The default is 1.6km IIRC.

What the bloody hell is THIS then (mentioned by name in the OP)? There are a vast number of resources already listed in this thread. If you still can't work it out with those then I'm sorry to say it reflects more on you than BIS or their game. The proof of that is in the many complex and successful missions being released by others. God I'm so sick of listening to the whiners around here who moan constantly about everything that wasn't included in the game and wasn't spoon-fed to them thereafter. -

Doesn't it give you an unfair advantage over players who haven't downloaded that mod and isn't disallowing it then a valid (dare I say responsible) decision? You're wasting your breath trying to tell the people who PAY for the servers how they should be run. Pay for your own or get involved in a community that does. -

It's also about participating in the community around that server, if you do you'll know what's allowed and can suggest the approval of other mods. If you only want to play as a random then you've no grounds for complaining about having to play vanilla. -

I'd prefer they spent their time on the expansion, I enjoy learning the game and its capabilities by experimenting. -

While I too tire of p75's naive and clumsy (yet somehow strangely entertaining) attempts to manipulate BIS and the modding community et. al, surely all that actually needs to be distributed is a replacement rvmat and the new heat-based texture itself? It's not like you should need to re-download other existing textures/shaders. -

Very, very cool Mandoble, before long ArmA2/OA truly will be the Ultimate Military Simulator! My thoughts on kju's suggestions: Very nice MFD surround Raptor6, I wonder if you'd consider making more or at least one Russian one? It would also be great to be able to configure some other properties for the display B&W, Grain, NV Available, FLIR Available so we could present differing capabilities for different vehicles, (i.e. US in colour with bells & whistles, Russian mostly in B&W). One always feels a bit sheepish making so many suggestions for something which is already so thoroughly well done, but hopefully you're interested in the input. Look forward to the end result. -

I suspect you mean, working MFD's, but they look thoroughly generic/inert to me. -

What's to bash? Even those whose questions might actually have begun with "Why didn't ArmA 2 include..." should be well pleased. The expansion, the timing and the head-on response to DR's feature-set (i.e. FLIR, flashlights, vehicle & maybe weapon HUD improvements) is bold & well considered and I wish BIS every success with this endeavour. Geez, take a step back, you're banging on and on like the whole game's completely borked because of one (hardly catastrophic) issue in a game of this breadth? You need to get out a bit more. -

That's likely in part to downloading the mission files off the gameserver, other games support http redirect so the server just tells the client where to find the resource elsewhere on the Internet.
