ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
chops replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm confused. Isn't a "stand-alone expansion" a new game? If it doesn't require a previous product, how can it be an "expansion"? Looking forward to seeing more screenshots. I like the idea of being able to kill a few Durka Durkas. -
Wikipedia says; "Williams is an avid enthusiast of games, enjoying pen-and-paper role-playing games and online video games, recently playing Warcraft 3, Day of Defeat, Half-Life, and the first-person shooter Battlefield 2 as a sniper." There's a short interview with him here, about his video gaming habits Though I fail to see why I should be nicer to him than anyone else online. "Kill them all, for God will know his own."

Oh yes, the ever-whining, complaining customers. I'm sure BIS wishes they'd go away. I bet you 1000 internet points the 3D editor is never implemented in Arma2.
-
BIS never said they were including a 3d editor. Why keep a feature of the game secret? Why not promote it? As I posted above, they left textures in PBOs from VBS in Arma1. No surprise they did it again, just with something else. Considering the sloppiness of everything else in the game, is it really too hard for you to believe?
-
There are still animal texture files in Arma1 PBOs from VBS2. Same as the 3D editor in Arma2 that was partly left in from VBS2 by mistake. When people discovered it in Arma2, BIS said "oh erm yes that's a special surprise for..er.. the community". Yeah right, BIS won't ever get it to a working standard. Interesting to compare the VBS2 change log to the megre list of 1.03 in Arma2.
-
Have a look at buying a copy of Operation Flashpoint. Lesser graphics, fewer bugs thousands of addons. "I don't like the bugs in Arma2" seems to provoke the same response - "Durrrrrr go play BF2 duurrrrrr. There's no other game like Arma2, durrrrr".

I'm not sure who is responsible for advertising, is it the developer or the publisher? As far as I can recall there was a bit of stuffing about with who was going to publish Arma2 in which countries and when it was going to come out. That can't have helped. I don't think the dribs and drabs, ad hoc manner in which Arma2 was realsed helped at all, regardless of who's responsible for advertising. I think judging from the state Arma2 was released in, with German customers paying for the privilege to beta-test, and the state it is in now (have a look at the 1.03 satisfaction thread), it's fairly obvious BIS aren't that interested in developing, promoting or selling the game. BIS were comparitively silent during development of the game, and their silence is deafening now, when so many people have reported such major problems playing the game. Not a word. The development of the game was sloppy, organisation of the release was sloppy, the game is sloppy, no surprise the advertising/PR is sloppy.

I like Eisenhower's speeches. They're not overly poetical or dramatic, he states his contention clearly and plainly, yet I imagine he was quite inspirational. I saw that throat-cutting video referred to a few pages back in this thread. It was a horrific image that has stayed with me ever since. It really troubled me for several days. I can't understand how one human being could do that to another.I friend of mine fought in the Bosnian war and has told me about horrible things he saw both sides do. It's this brutal and savage reality that the politicians who declare the wars are never subjected to. Anyway, here's a link to a report from Dateline on SBS, an Australian news programme. It's about the situation in Abkhazia. From what I understand of the situation, Georgia has tried to cozy up to the West (who are in turn looking to establish a presence in the former USSR). Then Georgia launched a brutal artillery attack on a civilian centre and when Russia responds, Shakashvili starts bleating about the protection of democracy. Were I in charge of the whole world - Georgia minus 100 points for indiscriminate shelling of a city and claiming to be fighting for democracy when you get your arse kicked. Russia, minus 20 points for hanging around a bit too long inside Georgia. Should have stayed within South Ossetia.

That ambx shit is about the gayest thing I've seen. Fans and coloured lights?

I first read this thread title as being The original muslim games... Janes Fighters Anthology was a fantastic flight sim. I used to spend hours playing the various online modes. I remember being amazed at the cleverness of those who made mods for it. Before we leapt into the future and got internet at home, I had to download the mods for it on 1.44" disks at uni - haven't even seen one of those in years. Had heaps of planes, maps and weapons. My favourite game mode was MP "Airbase assault", having to destroy your enemies airbase before he did yours. Selecting what aircraft, what weapons etc brought you right into the game. Should I go air-to-air and knock out his planes, then finish the base off later? Or go straight for the base? I can still recall the excitement at screeching across the map in an F-111 (the RAAF shouldn't retire it!) on full afterburner, 50ft above the deck, invisible to enemy radar, full load of bombs. Line up the bombsight... boom! there goes his HAS! Those were the days.

Picture in picture rendering for helicopters, planes and tanks - BIS please add!
chops replied to p75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I imagine this would add the possibility of proper weapon scopes too? Would be nice to have only the optics part zoomed in. -
The people swearing aren't real and is there such a thing as non-real swearing? You'd let your young uns watch Reservoir Dogs and say "fear not, the killings aren't real kiddies." You'd only fret if it was a genuine snuff flick they were watching? As for having the option to turn it off, no. With the amount of problems people are reporting with playing the game. Adding the Care Bear option is a waste of time and effort. As someone who has modded Arma yourself, I'm sure you'd know how to do it. There are probably heaps of Ned Flanders samples on the internet.

-=SARMAT=- Studio presents: WIP screenshots of the new project "Wings of Russia".
chops replied to zenger's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Of what? Screenshots?:DA lot of fuss over a few pics, which look pretty good. -
BIS should probably have done some homeworks since 2001
chops replied to Alienfreak's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
A very good post Alienfreak. There are no excuses for having the same damage system 8 years after first release. What have BIS changed in functions and abilities since OFP 1.96? JIP, some scripting comands and mulitple turrents. Arma2 is essentially a retexture mod of OFP 1.96, with worse driving AI (from what I've seen). -
BIS, get this tragedy with AI drivers in wheeled vehicles solved
chops replied to S!fkaIaC's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Eight years after the first installment of this engine, things have actually gotten worse. I still play OFP. For me, neither of the Arma instalments have been up to the standard BIS set for themselves with OFP. Seems they went all-out for appearance and neglected substance. As per your sig mr.g-c, we can only hope that BIS rediscover the passion they had for OFP and apply it to repairing Arma2. Though I do wonder if this engine is a lost cause. -
Ja Ich am thinking vee need Bruno here to review zese fashions! These look fantastic Fab. The system you describe sounds very innovative too, I imagine realisticall varying the soldiers' appearance will add a great deal of immersion to the game. Refresh my memory, have you got a Caen island ready to go for these bad boys?
-
Have you tried Catshit one's Afghanistan Island?
-
I'm not up to speed with all the EULA stuff, but I know several OFP community members, including talented modders, mission makers etc, who refuse to buy ArmaII because of what they see as the very draconian and 'punish legitimate players' securom stuff. Arma/ArmaII's loss I spose.
-
I've also found problems with this map using scripts that spawn a gamelogic at [0,0,0], eg a 'get altitude above sea-level' function. In all of BIS and most user-made islands, the [0,0,0] postion on the map is sea-level. However on this map [0,0,0] is part of the 'island' and is about 15 metres above sea-level. The scripts seem to be dependent on [0,0,0] being sea to work, as they measure distances and such. Not a big deal, but it's frustrating as this is such a good island otherwise.

Fantastic work Sanctuary, they look geat! The update looks like it's going to be a work of art.
-
Great looking plane Rocket! You've obviously got a lot of talent, good to hear you'll be helping others with their work, ...teach a man to fish and all that. glynn0, is there a copyright on question marks?

Have a look in your docs folder of WGL mate, there's a list of weapon and ammo classes. There is indeed a thermobaric rpg round. It is also configured so that the AI will use it to fire on enemy infantry with, where as the other rounds are only for vehicles. I'm not at my OFP PC right now so I dont know the exact class names of the rounds, but you can use "this removemagazine wgl_rpg7" and "this addmagazine wgl_tbg7" (or whatever the exact names of the rounds are) in the init line of rpg soldiers to add the thermobaric round. I've had a bit of fun with it myself, clearing machinegun nests. GOod to see a new member of the forums enjoying the great work of the WGL team. I'd highly recommend downloading the OFP command reference (again no link as I'm on the laptop). It will help you understand how to get the most out of OFP and try different things out.

WarGames League v.5.1 (WGL 5.1) Full Release
chops replied to .kju's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
ECP and WGL will not work together as they both have different config files. The use of the word 'mod' can be a little confusing. There are 'mod teams' and 'modders' who've produced various soldier, vehicle and aircraft addons, but there are also 'mods', like ECP, WGL, FFUR that change the 'master' config file. Any 'mod' that has it's own master config file is incompatible with another mod that does the same. The exception to this is SLX, which comes with several SLX + xxx config files, allowing you to basically run two mods at once, as the author Solus created config files with elements of SLX + xxx together in one master config file. I hope this helps as it was something I found confusing when I started downloading stuff for OFP (6 years ago, lol). -
OKB 915 addons for ArmA2
chops replied to soul_assassin's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
How about a WIP pic instead of just a google image of what you're aiming for?
