Correct. Please state problem, hardware, drivers and settings so that BI have something to go on. Use the beta if you want to be part of testing & helping or stick to the stable release (1.05) for now. Its not like we are forced to use the betas.

NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!

General: About the Max and Detected frames i think you better test the different values yourself to find what feels best for you. It doesnt seem to matter how close you are HW wise to others as this seems to impact mouse feeling most so some like the heavier/creamier feel and some like the faster/easier feel. Right now im running "1" on both and "2" in the Nvidia CPL (Pre Rendered Frames). In the control settings in game i have smoothness set to about 2 or 3 (two - three clicks from left) and it gives me fast and yet smooth handling. So keep testing until you find your sweet spot. :) -
ACE functions are best asked (and should be asked) in the ACE thread. ACE uses the Userconfig folder where you find an "ACE" folder. Inside of it is the client.hpp file wich holds the information and settings to deal with above problem. If above info doesnt help please check the ACE thread. ;) Closing.

For infantry/vehicle shots where you are in control over your unit you can also use an old trick i often use. Add yourself and one more AI you control (or a quad depending on what you want screens of) and then when in game just press the command view button wich is the "," (comma/del) on the numpad. Now you can turn the camera around and zoom in/out and get some nice shots. Press ESC - Video Settings - HIDE to get a clean screen. Before pressing the command view button you can also have zoom pressed in ("+" button on numpad) this will give a zoomed in FOV. You maybe guess it, but yes you can also hold "-" on the numpad and then press the command view to get a really big FOV. All great tools for nice screens. Have fun.

Tested Chernogorsk by running around there a bit. Felt good after minor testing. About 30-45FPS with below settings. Setting terrain detail to very low gives me 60-70FPS. Wish that in particular could get some attention as it seems its the grass itself that do the ~25FPS drop. But the beta feels pretty good after a quick test and i will continue tomorrow. Thanks BIS. No joke. The double taxes got something to do with it i suspect. :) 499Skr is a standard game, and very hot selling games are 599-699Skr so ARMA2 was at a normal game price. OA seems to be a 100SKr cheaper so far, but i dont know if the shops have the actual price info yet. -

Please do not run any addons when testing the new betas as they can cause slowdowns or errors. This to be sure BI gets proper information. Thank you. :) -

In Sweden so far the price is set to 399Skr (around 42€), and this is about 12€ cheaper than ARMA2 was. -

How many people here are using NVidia SLI?
Alex72 replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Ok calm down guys. Comments like this isnt necessary, and BangTail is closer to the nursing home so that would be a false statement anyway. :D -
Its not worth it because you use too little of the heavy PBO´s im sure. Qwertz did a good job showing that this works. ;)
-
Maverick: Yeah sorry i wasnt clear. The BSOD's happened at RAMDRIVE start and not while playing. So RAMDRIVE encountered some problems when it tried to create itself in memory.
-
Gonk: There is a list made by Qwertz in this thread or his other one wich is linked in the first page. Sorry dont have time to look for it now. Just thaught i give you a heads up about it. ;)
-
Maverick: I use 4GB for RAMDRIVE and i moved the files up recommended earlier in this thread. Buildings, Plants etc. Sorry im at work atm so i dont have time to find that page. The difference is that when i move around there is no popping of objects. However i did have 2 BSOD's wich must been related to RAMDRIVE, and i also 2 times had an error say "Corrupted data" on ARMA start so i had to move up the files again. No crashes so far though. Reading your other posts before ive seen you do have crashes pretty often. and maybe thats because you go too hard on the settings? I run 2500-3000VD and all settings on HIGH except terrain detail wich is on NORMAL, and post processing effects on LOW (still effects but less FPS chew). When i go above this i can also get CTD's. The games specs are a bit weird i know, and it takes time to find the sweet spot for your HW. ;)

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Alex72 replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
SASrecon: Check my signature. ARMA2 runs like a dream on HIGH, and other games i eat for breakfast (maybe not crysis - didnt test on it - dont like it anyway) but A2 wich is important to me runs great. Tested online as well and everytime even though with a lot of AI its smooth as a baby's butt (or something like that). :) Getting my SSD soon for the system like BangTail said above. Windows operates real fast with it and as we get more and more impatient (faster rigs and faster internet) it seems like a good investment. -
Like Infinity. When that will be possible, to have future combat with ships and ground troops dropped off on planets ARMA style, i will be very very old. Hopefully the care takers let me have a laptop at the nursing home. :) Interesting to see where gaming is some 20 years from now. EDIT: Check this link. Take it before half way into that video and youll see him go down to a planet from space. Makes you understand the scope of it.

^^ It's temporarily not working for some reason, but some pages back they said it will come back. So place some more crates down for now or use the the INIT field function. -

Alex72 replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
^^ Good to hear. There are some tweaks that can be done - and should be done IMO - to get ARMA2 to run even better. Check the ARMA2.CFG and change these: GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3; To GPU_MaxFramesAhead=2; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=2; Or even "1" on both. You have to see for yourself how it feels. Also check the Nvidia CPL and set ARMA2 to "Performance" instead of "Quality". You can also change the "Maximum Pre Rendered Frames" in the CPL to a lower or higher setting and see if it feels better. Its important to get ARMA2 to "feel" good because that will make the game feel like it runs better. For example the "Smoothing" in the Control options in-game can be set very high originally and thus make it feel your floating when moving your weapon around. It feels "slow" and like your in a bucket of cream wich makes you feel the FPS i worse than it is. This can be easily fixed to get a faster handling if you test the changes i mention above. EDIT: Terrain detail in video options can be a killer on some systems (grass) so try lowering it to LOW and see if its even better. You will still have grass but get more FPS to play with. And you dont need to set all settings to LOW. Just some key ones. Shadows to NORMAL instead of HIGH can give a good boost and still look good. Post Processing Effects chew up more FPS on HIGH compared to LOW, but you still get effects wich is nice if you like it. Also set the Video Memory setting in the video settings accordingly to your video cards VMEM wich is 512MB so i would set it to NORMAL. 256/320MB cards would be set to LOW, and 1GB cards set to HIGH, and finally >1GB set to VHIGH or DEFAULT. Keep tweaking. :) -
Question about single player customization
Alex72 replied to vostov's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The campaigns face is not changeable AFAIK. At least not simple and fast. For everything else in SP where the mission designer did not add a face to the characters you can have your own. I made a post some time ago about changing your face. However these faces uses the faces that are already in the game (100+ faces) and they all have 6 different camos as well. So each and every face has the same 6 camo patterns where you choose one after taste. Check this link for info how to do it and to view all the faces. FaceXX_Camo1 = desert camo FaceXX_Camo2 = green smudge camo 1 (lighter) FaceXX_Camo3 = green smudge camo 2 (more paint) FaceXX_Camo4 = green smudge camo 3 (etc) FaceXX_Camo5 = green smudge camo 4 (etc) FaceXX_Camo6 = green stripes camo Second method: If you want your own face you have to use photoshop or gimp etc to modify your own face. This is done with a template where you have to photograph your own face and match it over the template. A heads up though, you cant really make a face in a game look like you because the head model might not (usually not) be like your own head. For example the cheek bones are in the wrong place and space between eyes etc, and thanks to this its very hard to make it look like yourself. You could be lucky and have the shape of the heads in A2 though. :) There are more templates than that one, but if your using a photo it shouldnt matter. You place the face.jpg file in your profiles folder wich is located normally on C:/Users/Username/My Documents/ArmA 2 Other Profiles/YourNickName folder. Just put it in that folder and leave the filename as it is (face.jpg). When in the game go to profiles and choose the "custom face" wich should be at the top of that list. Do NOT go into the profiles section in the game if you use the first method of using BIS faces. That will remove the face you changed in the ARMA2Profile file and exchange it. Hope this helps, and have fun. :) -
I tested RAMDISK finally. And i used the "simple" method of just copy some of the PBO's to RAMDISK and then pointed to it with the -mod=X:\ parameter. I have to say i was really impressed. Where i had micro stutter before when flying or driving fast (to load buildings etc) there was none. None. Didnt see a single stutter and i was looking hard. :) So i have to say this really works - at least for me. We know all systems almost works differently so it wouldnt surprise me if this didnt work for some. But i'll keep using it for sure. Thanks for the help everyone.

(my bold) Or it could also mean that they have added ACE like function to switch to CQB when using a weapon with that possibility (scope <-> CQB sight)? Well see soon. :) -
Its not more complex than to register one self and then just make sure you present the bug or suggestion in a easy clean way (according to the guide lines) so its easy for BI to make any sense of it. :) These forums gets a bit messy and you can only think about it for yourself being a developer having to read through everything in here to find what they need. The problem is also that most posts here in the forum doesnt follow the rules BI themselves want wich is good simple repro steps so they can reproduce the issue fast and easy. Otherwise it takes too much time and many "suggestions" and "bug reports" get lost among all the posts. The A2CIT was made for us. Seems many dont want to go through the "hassle" and present the issues with some thaught behind, and so we have tons and tons of complaining posts instead wich no one cares about. Personaly i think its sad as i would really want to see more people that like this game to help out. Its not our duty - definately not - but if one spends a lot of time in here complaining that time could be spent giving BI some real info on the matter. :)
-
Dont bother explaining it Bulldogs. ;) This has it's proper place (A2CIT), and i've said it to the person your trying to get through to a couple of times, but it's ignored. It's rather pointless discussing with a wall. Here we go again: The A2CIT has a voting system for bugs and suggestions. And it was setup for a reason. Most knows about it - some ignore it and keep going on in this forum like broken records.
