A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!
xxbbcc replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Why would a soldier throw away all ammo without any indication? I'm using ACE Patch 9 and it happened in the middle of a firefight - I had 10 cartridges left and then suddenly I had none - later on I noticed all of them on the ground. Also, can I change the visibility of the crosshair? It's displayed but it's so faint that I cannot see it. It's basically impossible to tell where I'm looking at. I have to strain my eyes to be able to tell where it is. -
Hmm, is there a way to download the latest version of these addons? Seems like the Arma1 versions are all missing on the server.

PROPER projects - game tweaks of all sorts
xxbbcc replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Kju, thank you very much for these tweaks. Your work make ArmA2 a much more playable game. -
Really? A crosshair for a "realistic" sim?
xxbbcc replied to teach's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Ha ha ha, finally someone said it so many words. -
Yes, can you please release a version that contains all the latest files? I'm not sure which version I have after downloading from Armaholic - the readme doesn't mention the hotfix.

What I would change (after playing the series for 8 years )
xxbbcc replied to Turowicz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I have to say, I really, really hate A2-s gear screen. It's very confusing and hard to work with. It's also terribly slow for some reason (the rest of the game works well.) I wish the A1 gear screen would come back. -
Glad to hear that :) I'm looking forward to more missions from you - I really liked this one Let me know if you need testing help with anything - things are back to normal for the time being, so I have a bit of free time to play the game again

CAA1 islands standalone
xxbbcc replied to andersson's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hmm... I didn't realize the change - if it creates a completely separate branch from CAA1 that won't update automatically with CAA1 then I'd probably prefer CAA1 only. Having a simple addition to CAA1 that makes the islands independently usable would be very nice but if it comes at the price of splitting down the project - that's probably too much. Do I understand it correctly? -
CAA1 islands standalone
xxbbcc replied to andersson's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'd prefer to have both - the ability to have only the islands and the full CAA1. Mission makers will simply have to note whether their missions require only the islands or the full pack. Many thanks for these, BTW - having A1 stuff in A2 is simply priceless. -
MrN, it's worth trying the betas, some of them (the few I tried) in general made the game noticably better.
-
Hint, hint: I wouldn't mind buying a properly ported version of all OFP Islands and official campaign / missions from BI if it was available for A2. Same goes for map packs, mission packs, etc. In general, I think BI did a decent job with A2 - many thanks for it. A few more patches and this game will be really awesome.

Map Plus v1.0 (No Satellite Texture, Added Ruler, Compass, Line Drawing)
xxbbcc replied to noubernou's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
This looks like an awesome addon - just removing the map textures itself would have me say so. :) I do have one request, though: would you mind making the keys configurable? The key setup you have conflicts with my keys so at the moment I cannot use your addon. Alternatively, if key config is too much work, would you mind releasing this without the features that require key presses? -
'Cipher' - full dynamic [SP & MP/Coop] with unlimited replayability
xxbbcc replied to wiper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Thank you for taking the time and making a mission that doesn't require massive addon downloads to play - much appreciated. -
HiFi Novus Aevum - modular sound conversion
xxbbcc replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
It'd be awesome to see your HiFi mod ported & extended for ArmA 2. In my opinion no other sound mod even comes close to creating the mood for these games. -
BIS - ArmA 2 Propaganda - Apparel - T-Shirts?
xxbbcc replied to pchaxor's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Ha ha, you better do :) I wouldn't mind having a nice official t-shirt -
Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints
xxbbcc replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yes, I've seen this problem numerous times - it seems to happen a lot more frequently when crouching or when on angled terrain (slopes, etc.) It makes aiming next to impossible sometimes and when it happens, it gets progressively worse and worse. I observed positions where the gun appeared vertical when I was crouched and trying to aim. -
Aiming difficulties with ironsights and aimpoints
xxbbcc replied to 50.cal's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I also found some issues with aimpoints and some of the iron sights. First of all, I had no issues whatsoever in ArmA 1 and I don't have a "lag" issue - I get decent frame rates. The issues are different, some are definitely bugs, some are likely. Bug 1: Aimpoint and some iron sights get out-of-alignment. What this means is that the character seems to hold the weapon in totally useless ways, where the aimpoint and the iron sight or the front/back iron sights are not aligned anymore. This is obviously a bug, because after a while it randomly corrects, especially after rapid mouse movements. It also seems to happen more in crouched position. This out-of-alignment is sometimes massive, I've already seen 200+ pixels - it's as if the character is holding the rifle vertically, even though the butt is sitting at the shoulder - crouched targeting position. Bug 2 (?): Massive weapon movement even when unhurt. This is different from weapon sway in that the amount is huge - ~50-70 pixels or so away from the center (where the weapon is supposed to be pointing.) It seemingly happens randomly, I cannot reproduce it but I've seen it several times already. It also gets fixed by something random. I've seen this in zoomed weapon mode (after pressing Insert to bring up the sights.) Bug 3 (?): Something seems to be wrong with ballistics. In ArmA 1, I can reasonably hit targets with the aimpoint and with the M16/M4 or with AK-74 out to ~200-300m. I already played through the ArmA 2 campaing, but I wasn't able to hit anything with the M4 Holo beyond about 25-50 m. Because of #1 above, the same goes for the aimpoint. I ended up using iron sight M16-s (or M4?) because even with #1, it still feels the most accurate somehow. I have a hard time imagining that I'd be so bad at this after years of playing OFP/ArmA 1 - something feels wrong about the weapons, but I cannot pinpoint what. I did miss in ArmA 1, but nowhere near as badly as in ArmA 2. As I said, I had no weapon problems in ArmA 1, so this must be some kind of new behavior/bug in A2. Has anybody else seen these problems? -
I just finished the campaign and I have to say, it's really an insult that it was even made part of a commercial product. On a technical level, it's almost unplayable - I had to use -endmission at least 4 times because some missions never ended, no matter what I did. Then the warfare missions are total crap - I couldn't even buy units or weapons, even though I had plenty of money. Whenever I tried buying anything, the dialog just came up and all I ever saw was "Receiving data". Friendly AI soldiers are so weak and dumb that I actually left them at lest 500-1000 m-s behind so that they couldn't engage enemy soldiers, because when they did, they always died - no exceptions. And this is with 1.03. I was actually safer without them, which is ridiculous. Did anyone at BI even tried to play these just once? I also hate the characters, every single one of them and was wishing for them to die during most of the campaign. There were one or two nice parts (shooting the sniper in the city mission was ok), but the rest were just amateur trash. Most mission makers make better missions on their first try.

Need a "for gods sake shut up" command..
xxbbcc replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
It also broke many other messages. This should be fixed in an official patch, I hate the dumb AI shouting all the time. -

I would most certainly NOT subscribe to a game, under any conditions. I want to own the game affter buying it and not have any ties to the publisher. I want to be able to use the game as is, even in the event of BIS collapsing. So, no subscription - I'd reject any form of recurring payment model. On the other hand, I'd be willing to buy extra content from BIS (official, high-quality port of ArmA 1, official port of OFP, extra islands, etc.) that BIS might make would be something I'd consider buying. I don't mind supporting them as I like the entire series and oviously, they have bills to pay. Since so far they showed commitment, I'm willing to go with them, but not in a subscription-like form.

What's your favorite SNIPER/MARKSMAN rifle, and why?
xxbbcc replied to Sergeant Poop's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
SPR is my favorite. -
I have ArmA 2 but I'm not abandoning ArmA 1 just because of that. Both are great games. ArmA 2 needs a bit more patching but it'll get there. The only reason I'd abandon ArmA 1 is if the content gets ported to 2.

Also, AFAIK, the demo is not the latest version. The latest 1.02 has a lot of fixes alreadythat help with a bunch of problems. There still are some more, but the BI guys are working on those.
