because i made another analogy before, in this case development = manufacturing, and you well know it. and it isn't 100% sunk costs here (hence my question) mainly because the investment you put into a DLC/expansion is partly (a small fraction) covered by the ongoing product sale (which is usually boosted at a time of a connected product announcement anyways). Yes, you cannot sell at a loss, but if the margins are poorly calculated, you can end up quickly at a overall development loss. Lower prices doesn't necessarily mean more overall sales, just as harder DRM doesn't mean less piracy, especially when people are that used to it and where there is little to no punitive action around illegal software download, why would a lower price be an incentive when they can get it for free? about the sale - none of the AAA games get 50% discounts in their active (supported) lifetime. Why would A3 be any different? Yes, A3 has a way higher life span than your average shooter, and a lot more support going on behind it (included for the DLCs - see the updated shaders on all apex structures). i fail to understand a few things - steam deals with regional prices for all its game library. A3 and every DLC is sold via steam, so where is the issue? about the fact that Bi store doesn't have such an option? to be honest, what you are saying is that for you, apex is not worth the price it has, because you (not you in particular, but a more generic "you") cannot afford it, so BI should sale it at a lower price, more often, and ideally provide it free... from a business perspective, i would always sell 10 copies worth 50$ each than 100 copies worth 5$ each...my 2 pennys anyways

what? games have fixed manufacturing/production costs - as in developing the game itself (ie: time for development x salary for N people + software costs + rental costs + logistics and support staff = baseline). The price is set by taking the brut costs and profit margin and dividing it to the expect sales number - of course this is an oversimplification but you get the drift. do define what you understand from "sunk cost" though.... really? last time i checked and upgraded my snowboard gear, i noticed that the price per product is exactly the same (the variation was minimal across different countries). Same for airsoft, or baketball gear - the other hobbies i have which i sort of know prices for. I am pretty sure 800EU for a snowboard and ligatures is not considered expensive in some parts, while for others might be their 2 month average salaries. For entertainment prices - the license to run that movie only represent a fraction of a movie ticket price, most of it goes towards fixed costs (staff salaries, rental costs, logistics costs etc, which as you said, are NOT the same everywhere). - and i get that info from the horse's mouth, have a friend in the management of a mall movie theater franchise If you wanna compare stuff that costs the same no matter where, then check the netflix subscription, which is the same no matter of the country (and where the vast majority of that fee goes towards infrastructure -which is outsourced using a rental model and licenses).

you don't seem to be able to follow: hobbies are not necessities: to quote SA from someplace else, you NEED air, water, food and shelter, all the rest are extras. And without talking about social classes, yes, if you cannot afford a hobby (even with making some financial sacrifices), maybe it is time to change the hobby to something less expensive or do something more productive with the free time you have (and to be honest, out of all the hobbies i listed above, gaming is one of the least expensive ones). No one is forcing hobbies on anyone. If at the end of the month you don't have money to spare for a hobby, or for personal entertainment, but you do have plenty of free time for it (time=money btw), then it is the moment to seriously think about what you are doing with your life... And if you want to push this discussion even further into the off topicness, hobbies are white man problems to be honest. You keep bringing the fact that in Poland, or in Russia or some other places video games are expensive in relation to the average salary and living costs...How about other places, where people barely have electricity, shouldn't they be allowed to play arma as well, and get tanoa free? I won't argue about regional pricing, but this topic is not about that. Just so you know, a certain product has a pretty fixed manufacturing cost. That's usually why it also has a fixed price. Surely you can argue that it is always better to sell the product rather than keep it on the shelf. and with digital downloads, you also have 0 logistics cost as well (which means keeping it on the shelf costs absolutely 0, so there is less incentive to push stuff into sales). UT do understand that this spiked revenue model is used to pay the salaries of multiple people for longer periods of time, so stuff CANNOT be released for free, and the discounts offered can only cover so much from the manufacturing price, excluding the profit margin altogether

i suggest you contact bi studio's legal department in that case, because i have seen that behavior for servers that i have reported for breaching RHS EULA...which is not the case here(at least not from my part), as i have not reported servers in quite some time (and you would have been served a cease and desist if it would have been me). Might simply be a misunderstanding

do you have permission from all addon makers which addons you use on that monetized server as per monetization rules? https://www.bistudio.com/monetization/faq

besides the rant in itself, gaming is a hobby, just like going to movies, tennis, airsoft, skiing, golfing or sailing etc....not everyone affords it. Also, if you ask me if you cannot afford 70EUs for a game that gets you thousands of hours of game-time with endless posibilities, much less so the PC to run it, maybe you should do something else with your free time, something that will earn you that extra buck... demanding that the main piece from a DLC, the one were most time and money was spend into by a commercial entity that is in the gaming industry, is foolish to say the least. This business does not run itself on charity

just in case anyone here missed it:

RHS doesn't have and mostly likely won't ever have a mi-26 ;)
-
that lol at the end of a sentence does emphasis the serious nature of your posts I have seen this before : when lacking real arguments, use the plural I = we to get more weight behind whatever you are posting... i am sure i have way less actual game hours clocked for A3, that said, i am pretty sure i know arma as a franchise better than yourself...number of gameplay hours is pretty meaningless btw you can always set the ranks as you want per individual mission. Other than that, there is really no point for it, rather than boast to some friends....

wsxcgy's Extra RHS Uniform Re-textures 2.1.1
PuFu replied to wsxcgy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yes, eventually with prior notice/headsup would be respectful and the normal thing to do, as long as NONE of the original data provided is ever re-packed and re-distributed in any way or form (be it private or public crowds) ex: if you just wanna edit just the normal map for a specific supershader, the only change of that rvmat should be the path of that nohq texture to your own custom one, the rest should remain the same and point towards the original data rather than repack them all as you see fit That said, bear in mind that there are still some issues when using setObjectMaterial, so use that at your own risk and nerves NOTE: RHS reserves the right to spank any derivative work as RHS sees fit, based on the CC-BY-NC-ND (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives) license we use. sry for the semi-oftopic_ness here -

PuFu replied to wsxcgy's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
you are free to use setObjectMaterial if you want to, pointing to your own RVMAT file if needed to. and yes, as said, never use VA for testing lighting, because is completely different -

RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)
PuFu replied to soul_assassin's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hello and thank your for your inquiry, it means so much to the mod team and me in particular As an nonpaying user of this free mod, you are well entitled to ask, request and be provided with an answer to all the questions you might have: For the time being, i am sorry to inform you that this particular asset is not on any of the priority lists we have. That being said, I will take it upon myself to rectify that and work overtime in the very limited free time i have to create from scratch the glock 19 you have requested, that will behave exactly as the glock 17 i already made and it is available in the mod. Sorry again for the terrible news i am obliged to provide. Please remind me as often as possible about it though, keeps me on edge and motivated As you have already noticed, making glock 19 should only involve making a new HP mesh from scratch, the LP mesh as well, especially since the 17 and 19 have quite a different frame, also create the magazine as well, then re-bake and texture it all. Not a lot more involved otherwise indeed, you are 100% right.- 16577 replies

look, i already answered your previous question...you still didn't read it. ignorance is bliss...you're proof of that no one wants to have full control about what happens to these files, but SW is not just another mirror as i have previously explained to you. no one would get their panties in a twist over you uploading it to any of the "trilions other places" that don't require sharing IP with the host i am one of these addon makers that, while i cannot control everything, i do enforce the EULA, on SW and outside of it. deal with it.
-
1. read the steam agreement 2. read the mod EULA 3. read this thread from page 1 the emphasis is on READ...might also wanna read this post with a cup of salt
-
lol...nothing happens because you are doing it wrong. never flag, always DMCA:
-
should have posted in the ace thread then, isn't it?
-
that is precisely what steam agreement stipulates anyways...you can't even give someone permission to upload on steam, unless you actually make a paper to share your IP rights with him
