Hi there Even with AI skill settings to max in my opinion it's a bit to easy now. We need something inbetween 1.02 and 1.03. kind regards nettrucker

Yeah just so stupid simple but I couldn't figure it out first hand. I was so used to OFP/ ARMA1 command menu, which made all sub menus available from beginning, that it took me some time: There was also another thread where people complained about the quick command menu, but I hadn't the game running by that time and forrgot about it. Anyway glad that it's solved. Kind regards nettrucker

Hi everybody I got some serious trouble commanding my AI team due to several orders which are unavailable. - Unit Move - Unit Fire Mode - Command Unit These commands are not accessable to me. They remain greyed out. I tried selecting whole group or single AI no matter what these commands are not active. It's impossible to command AI effectively without these commands at your disposal. Can anyone enlighten me. I did a search but the only thread which came up with this problem is this one. Any advise would be really appreciated. Kind regards nettrucker Solution: Ok I figured it out. For those who don't know it. Once the action menu pops up where you see the commands greyed out. To active these commands you need to select Group or single unit push 7 for selecting combat behaviour menue for e.g. and then select the desired Combat behaviour It is slightly different than to ArmA 1. The same goes for Unit Fire Mode and all the other sub menus. Regards nettrucker

How Stupid is your squad? Keep it Fun

100% realistic AI is not possible in my opinion. I mean you can try to get as close as possible but they will never really react like a human. Most people evidentially are not aware what undertaking this is in terms of programming. During bug fixes it can happpen that you change 1 parameter and it effects other things in a negative way and you screw up more than you fix. Arma II is not perfect we all know that. In one thread I was reading about COD series of being flawless without bugs and in my opinion you can't even compare both games. But anyway it is not perfect and in my opinion it will never be. But ArmA II will be fixed by patches it just takes some time. The only thing I can complain about is that not withstanding 8 years have past AI is still struggling when driving vehicles and second that the campaign is full of bugs. Regards nettrucker -
Hi there nothing to worry about. You're not bad. I have the same problems. Enemy who sees through bushes when in prone position is a bug and it is very hard to compete. Situational awareness is definitely different in ArmA II rather then in ArmA I or good ole OFP. You can't rush due to heavy vegetation and lot's of possibilities to hide and conceal. Furthermore AI has been improved. They are not staying anymore in the middle of the road for e.g. where they get easily killed. The ArmA II AI is sometimes very tricky and sometimes still stupid. Now they are using every cover possible putting up surpressive fire, flanking you and so on. I just changed the speed of my movements trying to be more carefully when advancing and trying to use every cover available in order to not getting killed. Snipers are definitely a pain because you don't see them. So don't worry just try to slow down your advancing speed and try to maintain situational awareness of 360 degrees in any case. Read Shac Tactics there's a lot of usefull stuff about how to improve your situational awareness. Cheers nettrucker:D

Yeah the Ai has become a lot smarter. I was testing a mission that I was working on. Friendly assault on Lopatino. at a certain point the advance stopped due to Enemy AI counter attacking ( guard waypoint ) I hid behind one of the low walls once they got me zeroed they started surpressing me putting a hail of fire on my position. When I got up in crouch position I got immediately killed. So I was laying prone and could hear constantly bullets hitting the wall which gave me cover. Standing up and trying to change position was impossible it resulted always in death. I tried an evasive manouvre to the left and then to the right naturally in prone postion but I was always welcomed with a hail of bullets with the end result that I got killed. So I retreated crawling back and payed attention that the wall was always in front of me. After a dozen attempts I was able to disengage. So yes the AI surpresses you, naturally his first objective is to take you out. In case he can't due to the fact that you are behind solid cover they keep your position under control and monitoring your moves. In case he got a clean shot he kills you. I had a whole squad of Enemy Ai's who were zeroed on my position. I was unable to return fire because as soon I got up. I got shot. Regards nettrucker

Was the campain even bug tested?
nettrucker replied to OddballWDI's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I agree with you on that one. But believe me fixing bugs is a hell of a work. You must be very careful because fixing one thing can screw up other things and seen the magnitude of the programming effort to create such a game it is a complex and difficult task. I believe BIS is mostly under pressure being only a small developer. Budget is limited I guess and splitting up from Codemaster forced them to release ArmA1 in a very premature state otherwise there would be no ArmA2 right now. The community itself was constantly pushing for a new release. Most people don't consider such kind of aspects. I fully understand people ranting about the bugs in missions which do not work properly. I really do. A lot of people are really disappointed especially people who are new to BIS Games. OFP was also buggy when it came out back in 2001 and they fixed it slowly but surely. That shows me that BIS is dedicated and committed to their games. How many other developers you know that are working constantly on patches to improve their games. for being honest I don't know any except BIS. Yeah maybe others release a couple of patches and that's it because they are already working on new projects. This is addressed to the new people to Arma II. Believe me you don't have wasted your money even some of you might be convinced of it. This game hasn't only one aspect to be considered. The campaign is bugged . . .:D try multi player then. Real life issues has always prevented myself to play online. For the first time in my life I have the chance to try that out and I did. You know what . . . it is a real blast. Especially playing PvP. You're not into multi player then fire up the editor and create your own missions. I'm more an editor guy myself and I had fun for 8 years in a raw. The community is the greatest community I've ever been in and you will see for yourself how active and creative the community really is. New content is created constantly from Islands to weapons, units, vehicles, aircraft, enhancing scripts and tons of more stuff. Not to mention all the awesome mods which have been created in the past. Take a look at Dev Heaven these guys are working to bring old OFP and ArmA content to ArmA2. They are committed and dedicated to do all this stuff and therefore my kudos to Kju and all the other guys involved in this great project. I could go on listing tons of stuff but I give it a rest. Give it some time and you will see that you didn't waste your money. Well in case you don't like this game at all than I can't help you. Regards nettrucker -

Wow I never thought that someone would still play this OFP campaign. Anyway given the magnitude of the BIS games I don't wonder about bugs: I guess it is almost impossible to get this game bug free from release date. Think of the concept of other games how are they build. There is nothing else comparable in my opinion and believe me I played some FPS but in the end I turned always back to BIS OFP/ArmA series. I know they will improve until bugs are ironed out. It may take some time but it always have been like that and I can accept and live with that. Regards nettrucker:D -
Yeah I tried selecting the whole team I tried selecting single soldiers but combat behaviour and fire commands were always grayed out and couldn't be used. Well I guess I have to experiment still a lots of stuff and hopefully I can figure out what's wrong. regards nettrucker
-
Yeah I noticed the same, and Im still trying to figure why they are grayed out. In the editor when working on my missions I encountered the same thing. Combat behaviour and fire commands are not available. Hope that somebody can enlighten us.

Hi Yesterday I kept going on working on a mission of mine. After setting up everything I tested the mission and I must say AI is quite impressive. I hid behind a low wall in the middle of the field and watched directly on Lopatino. The Enemy AI was starting a counter attack and friendly advance stopped. After the Enemy discovered my position I was trapped and nailed down by the Enemy AI. Whatever I tried to change position failed and I always ended killed. Whatever I tried the AI kept me zeroed and as soon as I tried to move they put a hail of fire on me and killed me every time. They kept me pinned down. I was in prone trying to move to left or right with the same result. I was always welcomed with a hail of bullets. After more or less a dozen attempts to move away from my compromised position I had to crawl back in prone position facing the direction of Lopatino. Unfortunately AI is able to spot you through grass and bushes even in prone position so it makes it very hard to compete against them. So the enemy is definitely smart on foot. The same I can’t say when it comes to driving skills even after 1,02 patch update the AI has serious troubles to stay on the road. In case of danger the move along the forest lines to have as much cover as possible. AI driving skills must still be improved in my opinion. Search for my nick nettrucker on you tube there I loaded up some movies showing the AI driving skills so you can see for yourself. In any case ArmA II is fantastic not withstanding bugs and other issues still to be fixed. Regards nettrucker:D

The Campaign: How can you put up with it?
nettrucker replied to Bahger's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hi same goes for me. I haven't touched the campaign yet. I will as soon as the bugs get ironed out. Played some of the single scenarios which were quite good. Moreover I had some awesome multiplayer battles On Charlie Foxtrot server. It was a blast. PvP is something I haven't experienced so far. I really loved it. On Cfarma2 600 people signed up 120 slots at disposal. Anyway when not playing online I'm experimenting with the editor unless the campaign gets fixed. regards nettrucker -

Hi everybody I have a NVidia 6150SE integrated grahic card which is not been projected for playing games. In fact today I found out that without a decent video card I can't play ArmA II. Can't see no shit ingame . . . everythings white and foggy. Since I'm eager to play I need to find a solution very quickly.:681: What would be the best choice concerning a new video card. thanks in advance for any advice. Regards nettrucker:depressed: -
Hi try to put in the init.sqs following code snippet that has worked in good old OFP and ArmA I. I'm unsure though if this command also works in ArmA II, since I purchased the game only yesterday and hadn't had the chance to play it yet. I'll gonna test it this evening and let you know. but I'm confident that this code still works in ArmA II. Hope that will help you. Best regards nettrucker:D Edit: How to create an init.sqs file Open notepad ( or blocknote) write the above mentioned code snippet than save the document under " all files" with the name init.sqs in your relevant user mission folder.

Looking back when OFP was just FLASH POINT
nettrucker replied to maruk's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
Yeah I can't help myself but smile. :)OFP was something really different at that time comparing to other "wargames". I played some other FPS but I always got bored and annoyed very quickly and turned back to OFP. It took me three years before signing up on the forums. I don't post much but I constantly follow any news concerning BIS games. Since ArmA was released I didn't touch anymore OFP. What I missed terribly in ArmA was the quality of the OFP campaigns and their storyline. OFP CWC and Resistence were superb storylines. The player could easily identify himself with the main characters. I was so fascinated by OFP that I started to get curious when playing with the editor. So I started to learn things especially concerning missions - campaigns. In my opinion a strong and good storyline will result automatically in a good campaign. Since I'm still waiting for ArmA2 as the rest of the world, so far can't tell anything about it. Saw all the videos and it is awesome. Heard lot's of people ranting though but there is no similiar game out there yet that can match with the BIS Games IMHO. I will always love this game and I wanted just to say thank you for all the endless hours of fun.:bounce3::D -
What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?
nettrucker replied to bloodbomb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hi everybody. I read the whole topic and all I can say is that you can only do a certain comparison when OFPDR will be released to the public. Unless then everything is pure assumption. Unless somebody really played both games nobody will be able to draw conclusions. One thing is certain . . . CM will have a hard stand with all OFP/ARMA fans out there, me included. I'll purchase it out of curiosity just to see if it might be better then the BIS developed games. Only in that case I would consider to play it more then once. I have my doubts though but prove me wrong and I would be happy to be able to play 2 good games. :D I played lots of different FPS and other war games. But none of the them ever really satisfied me. I always ended up with ArmA which substituted OFP when released. I did not play ArmA 2 so far and I'm waiting for it's release. Even I hear lot's of people ranting and the campaign is full of bugs. ArmA2 is my first choice. I'm sure I gonna have plenty of fun since I'm more an editor guy. I see also a lot of dissapointed people. Everybody has the right to express his opinion. Unless I can't put my hands on a better game I'll stick to BIS and ArmA2 once OFPDR will be released I'll make up my own opinion after having played both. Stay tuned nettrucker:D -
Where to find the RPT file in case of CTD?
nettrucker replied to nettrucker's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Hi kju sorry for my very late reply, but I'm so damn busy with real life issues that it takes me some time to get back. My sincere apologies. Well I did some extensive testing and I found out that also older missions which had no problem whatsoever, started to CTD. Now since I had everything organized in Mod folders I thought it couldn't be the reason for CTD. The problem was getting worse from day to day and it was exasperating. In the end I opted for a clean and fresh new install of ArmA. I removed all the mod folders and installed ArmA new on my hard drive. For the time being it seems to work, but for being sure I need still some time testing different things:D Anyway thanks for your support which I really appreciated. Keep up your outstanding work regards nettrucker:) -
Hi erverybody In some of my missions I experience CTD after save game. I rebuild one from scratch cause I have the bad habit to copy and paste units to gain time during the mission editing. At first I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I copy units . . . so I rebuild the mission. Still CTD after save game. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? Now I've read on the PMC Tactical Wiki about the RPT file which is created when game CTD. Put where can this file be found it might help me to debug the mission. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance. nettrucker p.s. My apologies in case I posted in the wrong section.

Where to find the RPT file in case of CTD?
nettrucker replied to nettrucker's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Hi everyone I finally managed to get the rpt file after CTD. My user mission folder was located in C: documents and settings. It has been placed there automatically after saving my first mission attempt in ArmA. I haven't changed the path settings. Now I placed my ArmA folder in application data and after the usual CTD I was finally able to find the rpt file. Seems that is the default path where the rpt file is generated at least that's what I suppose. I read the report but I must admit I'm as clueless as before. Honestly said there is an Access violation reported but I haven't any idea what is it relating to. Addons listed. Here is one part of the rpt file related to the mission where I experience constantly CTD's. I hope that someone's able to understand what is this all about, cause I'm not. Any help is really appreciated. I rebuild the mission several times from scratch with the same result. I'm using vanilla ArmA. Latest official patch. Addons: Lowfly's editor upgrade ofpec anim viewer For all other addons I'm using mod folders. One thing I want to mention is that I added in all my missions a save game in the action menu. JFYI. For 80% of all missions I did so far it doesn't represent an issue. But there are 3-4 missions where I continiously experience CTD. Thanks in advance for any advice. best regards nettrucker p.s. I updated my Video card driver to the latest version availlable -
Where to find the RPT file in case of CTD?
nettrucker replied to nettrucker's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
Hi Yoma I'm actually using only two 3rd party addons which is Lowfly's editor update and the OFPEC anim viewer and that's it. I made former missions without any problems of CTD after save game nonetheless both addons were always in the original addon folder. My game version is up to date to the last official patch released. What bugs me most is that I can't find the damn rpt file after CTD that would gave me some idea what kind of errors are in the missions and maybe I could debug them. I consulted the Wiki, searched everywhere but couldn't find the file on my computer using the searchfunction. In case a rpt file has been created the search function would have revealed it's exact location and path. But it couldn't find a trace. BTW I'm running on XP. Thanks anyway for your reply. regards nettrucker -

Thanks for the hint hamis. regards nettrucker edit: Today 21.29 hours I just loaded the mission and it CTD. I went to my Arma/userfolder wich is not located in my BIS folder. I searched everywhere but couldn't find the RPT file. I used my computer search. no RPt file found on my computer. this is really strange. -
Hi Senchi thanks mate. I love your Island. cheers nettrucker

Hi guys made a second video on Wetland check it out here. I hope there will be some more civillian models as soldier models as well. civilian one has maybe a bug. When adding weapons through unit's initfield you can see the weapon in 1st person view, but you don't see the rifle in 3rd person view. I don't know if anyone else can check on this for confirmation. Huge undertaking this mod for being only 3 guys, my compliments. keep up the great work. @SenChi is it possible to add some destroyed towns or villages on this beautiful Island? Please. cheers nettrucker

Hi everybody just uploaded an ingame footage of the Island. The island itself is really beautiful. Have fun. Hope you enjoy it. The village you see is editor placed when fooling around on this awesome map. Cheers nettrucker

This is really beautiful. Great atmosphere this Island. Tried it with different time settings simply awesome. My congrats outstanding work. Confirm that roadways are slowing down vehicles. For the rest it seems really great. Missing some towns though. I mean by that maybe using some ruin models would increase the postwar feeling you have. Keep up the good work. cheers nettrucker
