    Dragon Rising has been released

Hi there I was reading for month both forums BIS and CM's about OFPDR and it's sad to see that there was some exchanges of heavy insults, flaming, trolling . . . call it whatever you like.It was on both sides It was a little bit kind of a war between both communities. This has saddened me very much. This is most probably due to our passion we have for games, especially wargames in general, but it's no excuse for a bad education and insulting other fellow community members, at least I see it that way. I'm a proud member of the BIS community and never had any problems discussing things in an educated and respectful civil manner. I dislike people who are insulting other people, arrogant behaviour is something I detest completely. I have never been part of the CM community and I decided I wouldn't sign up on their forums. The more I read over here, the more I felt uncomfortable to do it. But I just felt the urge to post over here in the hope that you can accept my opinion and that both communities try to get along better in the future. I hoped that DR would be good . . . now after release it turns out it isn't. My buddy called me a while ago all excited. Hey I got me OFPDR, so I gave him some heads up, he played the game for an hour, uninstalled it and brought it back exchanging it with ArmA II. Now a game is always a very personal "taste" thing the same as with music or movies or whatever. The people who think that DR must be great have never been hooked by ArmA II they most probably never even played the original OFP therefore they most probably don't know better and don't get the difference. I believe who loved the first Original Flashpoint can't accept OFPDR This is a different game and none of all this would have happened if this game had a different title. But Codemaster naturally took advantage of the name since they own it, nothing to say about that. What saddens me is that they really don't care about their community. And this is the reason why I think I do belong here. I'm an Armaholic playing for 8 years straight and I love it. I tried a lot of other FPS but nothing stands the comparison to the BIS titles for me, but that is only my personal opinion. If people find OFPDR great I can acccept that . . . have no problem whatsoever with that. If people think that ArmA is bad they simply didn't catch the spirit of this game, the challenge and the absolute freedom to play missions with tactics. I was never able to use tactics in a corridor shooter. I think games are a matter of taste and personal preference. I thank BIS for taking care of their community for continiously improving their games and patching it up as best as possible. I play since 2001, being a member on the forum since 2004, following always the news and all I can say is that BIS has never let me down. The only thing which makes me whince is that they got such a bad reputation for buggy releases since Armed Assault. I don't know what reason stays behind such a poor quality control . . . I can immagine some but it's just useless speculation.from my side. It sure did a lot of harm to them and drove away a lot of potential customers. Now the fact that DR was such a "fail" for PC gamers did some good to BIS because. The "community war" is hopefully over now and I see some people from the CM forums joining the community and replenishing the ranks which I personally truly welcome. It was also very sad to see so many frustrated community members with highend rigs having so many troubles to run ArmA properly and a lot of angry people too and the problems are not completely resolved yet, but BIS is constantly working on it.. I guess this has pushed a lot of people away from ArmA in my opinion and most probably I would be angry too if I couldn't run my favourite game not withstanding having an Ueber rig at disposal and I understand all the rants the people have because the game won't run well. I'm running only an Dual core and had no problems so far. Not a great framerate but I don't have experienced any major issues from preventing me to play the game. First release had game breaking problems in the campaign which have been fixed.. The fact is PC gaming is totally different from console playing . . . all consoles have more or less the same hardware set up and therefore it's much easier to get a game run well on a console. Now think about all the different hardware setups PC gamers have. The are millions of different hardware setups. How the hell can anybody develope a game that runs well on every PC at release? You ever thought about that? Given the magnitude and the ambition of their titles for me it's a mission impossible from start. When I purchase a title I know already that it most probably will have flaws and needs to be patched up, but this is a price I'm willing to pay in exchange I know that BiS will take care of all issues possibile. They did . . . they do it currently and they will always do it.. This has something to do with ethics which in the videogame business is really hard to find under the big players. BIS must improve quality control though otherwise it's going to damage their business and name. Once the words spread that you release buggy games it's difficult to get away from that reputation. CM is definitely an example of how not to run a business in my opinion. They are very good at shoeshine and very skillful in selling a game by taking advantage of the name of the original one. They promised and advertised things and didn't deliver. They let their fanbase down. Never make a promise you can't mantain. Lies have short legs and you won't get very far especially in such competitive business as video games. A quick buck due to false promises or call it advertising will take the toll on CM and their future profits. It's their own fault and they deserve it. but this is also only my opinion. CM forgot the first business rule. The Customer is King. Without satisfied customers future profits are going to diminish. The worst is that they tricked so many people by using the Operation Flashpoint brand and that nobody in their company really cares about their community. Dragon rising was a slap in the face for every OFP veteran and just only the matter of missing DS and the confirmation that there will never be any dedicated servers just shows me how much they care about the PC gaming community. That are my 2 cents. I only wish that there will be a little bit more of tolerance towards new people who join the forums. No matter what opinion they might have I can tolerate it without having to accept it and discuss things in an educated manner without bashing them. Kind regards nettrucker
  2. IceBreakr got it to work on his new Duala island so in the next version of Duala we'll be able to use the module. don't know how the hell he did it. Regards nettrucker ---------- Post added at 01:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:21 PM ---------- Once you exceded the number of units per side the preview function will disappear and you won't be able to preview the mission anymore. That's a sign you exceded the allowed quantity per side on your map and you need to remove units until the preview appears once again. I never actually verified how many units or groups you can place. AFAIK 144 single units should be the max you can place per side but I haven't verified it myself. Just made a test I placed 144 groups per ten for a total of 1440 per side. I'll make a short movie. Kind regards nettrucker ---------- Post added at 02:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:14 PM ---------- Here's the vid I made 144 groups of civillians, each group of ten civis. Total 1440 units. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GCar7X_0ss&hl=it_IT&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GCar7X_0ss&hl=it_IT&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Lag was enourmous and the loading time was quite long. My rig can't handle such amount of units. kind regards nettrucker
  3. Hi McArcher I added for eg. a repeated save game to the action menu so the player can save the game by using the action menu. I use following code: Player addaction ["save", "savegame.sqs"] Now it will show "save" in the middle of the screen. If you want to remove the writing in the center use this Player addaction [" ", "savegame.sqs"] leave the first string argument empty and you won't see any messages appearing anymore. kind regards nettrucker:D
  4. Hi there 1.) no the black cinematic border don't improve framerates. It's just for use in case you would like to achieve a cinematic touch in a cutscene. 2.) Sounds will not be slowed down and the sound sample source is not going to be changed. regards nettrucker
  5. add this line to every block of the script as I pointed out in your other thread. @camCommitted _camera a complete block of camscripting commands must look like this _camera camPrepareTarget us2 _camera camPreparePos [7784.02,6018.03,1.34] _camera camPrepareFOV 0.328 _camera camCommitPrepared 0 @camCommitted _camera ~5 Regards nettrucker
  6. Hi there here is n example of one block of a cam.sqs _camera camPrepareTarget us2 _camera camPreparePos [7784.02,6018.03,1.34] _camera camPrepareFOV 0.328 _camera camCommitPrepared 0 @camCommitted _camera ~5 without the "@camCommitted_camera" line the script won't work properly. In the first line I didn't use coordinates but I'm targeting a specific unit named us2. JFI. I have no problems as long as the script lines are complete. You are missing a fundamental part with this piece of code to get your script run properly. regards nettrucker

    Or Problem

I'm a bit confused by the code in the condition field for being honest, As far as I understood you have set 3 triggers ty - power - docks and as soon as independent is detected by Blufor within the set trigger areas they send in reinforcements. You could try to sync a movement trigger (switch) condition field (move) to the relative waypoints for the reinforcements instead of grouping them to the condition trigger. I experienced sometimes trouble when syncing waypoints some units got stucked and they wouldn't move so I always try to find a work around. What did you put in the activation fields of the condition triggers when Indipendent is spotted? Now I just tried something in the editor therefore my late reply. I set 3 triggers (ty, docks, power on Utes Activation by Independent detected by Blufor. first trigger Activation move1 = true . The other 2 set in activation move2= true and 3rd move3 = true. I set 3 reinforcement humvees (car1,car2,car3) instead of the choppers, for each location one reinforcement humvee. I set 3 triggers condition (move1,move2,move3) set to switch and synced to their respective waypoint of the humvees and it works perfectly. Without problem. Once independent is detected every humvee moves to his destination. It is not ideal but it might be a work around to reach your purpose. unfortunately I'm not good in scripting therefore I need to find a lot of work arounds with triggers.LOL:D regards nettrucker

    Or Problem

Hi Jakerod Could you be a little more precise describing the situation and the purpose of the trigger just to understand a bit better. it is strange though cause the trigger should get activated as soon as 1 of the above conditions are met. What is the purpose of the trigger and the condition?
  9. Try using this lines before targeting your next target titlecut [" ","BLACK IN",5] _camera = "camera" camcreate [0,0,0] _camera cameraeffect ["internal", "back"] _cam camsettarget [-51793.31,91929.12,4541.49]; _cam camsetpos [7049.73,11206.68,30.33]; _cam camsetFOV 0.217; _cam camCommit 5; Once the camera has been destroyed you need to create a new one. Just try the few code lines without using the cam destroy command it should disattach the camera on the relative unit It should set back the camera into previous status, by that I mean it shouldn't be attached anymore to a vehicle or unit in your case. Hope it helps. cheers nettrucker
  10. that is something I would like to figure out myself. I tried the alice module on Namalsk and it didn't seem to work or at least I was unable to get it to work. So for my part nope it don't work on Namalsk. I didn't test it on other user made Islands. Regards nettrucker

    Is this possible?

No you can't as far as I know. The only possible way is to place a sniper and make him highest in rank. regards nettrucker

    Animation

The codeline is unitname switchMove "animation name" unitname playMove "animation name" Get yourself the anim viewer here: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6056 and place it once unzipped in your ArmA 2 user folder which should be located in C:Documents\Arma 2 ... bla bla there should be a mission folder, now place the animviewer in that folder, fire up the editor select Utes and the animviewer and there you can see all the anims available in ArmA II. You can use the switch/playMove command in trigger activation fields, I personally use them more in scripted intro 'n outros and so on. I got still problems to make them to work in waypoints activation fields. Putting that code line directly in the Units init fields should work, but I haven't tested it yet. I wish there were still some more different anims at disposal. I hope BIS will add some with OA. Try and search for some cam scripting tutorials which is definitely the thing to learn when you would like to use anims. regards nettrucker:D edit: Just found a camscripting tutorial browsing in the next thread http://www.vimeo.com/1545959
  13. Hi the syntax is not entirely correct, when using in condition fields it should read ! ( alive AAA1). You forgot the brackets to make it work. Definitely Murklor got his point. kind regards nettrucker

Any other musicians in the community?

Yeah these are good times indeed making music somewhere around a campfire, I got some special memories too. Wish you all the best. kind regards nettrucker ---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 PM ---------- Violin is a very difficult instrument to play. I tried once and I left it in a hurry, because I was unable to hit the note straight on. Seemed that I was always out of tune.LOL I was more into the rhythm thing that's why I started to play drums and I never really stopped. yeah music is fun even if you play on your own. Any other musicians in the community?

Hi CW001 wow a multi intrumentist. Yeah great, do you just play for yourself or are you maybe playing in a band? Do you write your own songs? I mean I love playing drums on my own because there are no restrictions but I definitely prefer playing together with my buddies and having tons of fun. In any case thanks for your reply. It's nice to know that there are fellow community members who play some Instruments. Stay tuned. Kind regards nettrucker:D ---------- Post added at 09:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:29 PM ---------- Hi froggyluv that's cool man. I tried myself playing some Djembe it is fun especially when playimg together with some other people, but unfortunately my hands start to hurt very quickly and I've got no endurance meanwhile I could play drums for 8 hours in a raw.LOL Below in my signature is my bands website. We have also a myspace that you can find on our site. Thanks for your reply cheers:D

Arma II & OA User Video Thread

Hi there I just uploaded a cutscene of a mission I'm working on, actually it's a small campaign called " Valley of Death" . The quality is bad, sorry for that but I got only a mid end computer and fraps puts a heavy strain on FPS furthermore I'm not running ArmA maxed because I can't . . . moreover the gameplay is more important to me than fancy graphics. Once ready, the compression to a reasonable filesize does the rest to worsen results. This cutscene is also WIP, I'm still experimenting especially concerning the anims. Play and switchmove can sometimes be a pain, but you can already do some pretty funky stuff. Bear in mind that all voiceover are still missing which I intent to add to the intros outros and so on. I hope you can enjoy it even it's a bad quality. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ_E37InEiw&hl=it_IT&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ_E37InEiw&hl=it_IT&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> cheers nettrucker:D
  17. Hi there I see more and more familiar names coming up even we might have never had the pleasure to get in touch personally, but it's always good to see the "oldtimers" hanging around and being part of the community. Yeah I'm an ArmAholic definitely. I tried lot's of games started with DOOM and tried every game I could get my hands on since but there's no other game that got me hooked like this and it's good for my anger problem too.LOL!!!:D This is the most challenging game I've ever played and I love it. We are going to have fun for many years to come I believe, reason for this is the active creative part of the community mod - addon - mission makers. Is there any other game out there with the same amount of user created content and mods? I'm really not sure. There's tons of user created stuff for every title. I haven't even finished to discover all user made content for OFP. I have not been part of any other gaming community because the first one I joined was immediately the right one.LOL:D My best wishes to all of you cheers
  18. Hi there I'm testing some in the mission editor. Set captive true seems not to work in extreme combat situation. I mean by that lot's of units shooting at each other. Sometimes they die not withstanding I set them setcaptive true. I'm not able to launch switch or playMove animation from waypoints activation field. Could someone please be so kind and check this for confirmation. Thanks for your help regards:eek:
  19. Hi there thanks for all the replies and sorry for my late response but I needed to do some further testing. Yeah, setCaptive command is working properly. Sorry my mistake. It was just unfortunate that they kept dying. I was working on an intro with an extreme intense firefight. Awful lot of shooting and sometimes they got caught and killed. @ saok Hello my dear friend I hope you are doing alright. Yeah stupid me I forgot completely that code line. Should have known that @ Zipper5 & camo1018 I'm using mostly switch and play move in scripts sometimes in triggers and if the situation requires sometimes in the activation field of waypoints. I haven't got probs to get anims to work with scripts or triggers but I couldn't get it to work until now in waypoints. I used some play/switch moves in Armed Assault waypoint activation fields and it always worked. But I need to do some further testing on that waypoint issue. Thanks for your replies though. Regards nettrucker

    Final release of CAA1

hello kju First thanks for all your efforts over all the time bringing content to the OFP/ArmA community. Without your hard work none of the Armed Assault content would be available in ArmA II. I sincerely hope that you won't leave this community, that would be awful in my thinking. It is that people like you and all the addon - mod makers is what makes this community such a great thing imho. I guess a lot of people just takes it granted that people are making new content for this game. I can understand your bitterness it's just that it's more easy to complain than giving constructive feedback for people. They expect to be served on a silver plate whatever they want. Now I don't know you personally only as a fellow community member. You definitely have a great knowledge of this game code and I do respect this, moreover I do respect your constant advice and help in hundreds of threads on this forum and on others too if I'm not wrong. Just take a break and enjoy yourself. Believe me your work has been appreciated by a lot of people myself included. There are only a minority of people who are giving feedback unfortunately and even less who are saying thanks. I opened a thread a couple of days ago where I expressed my gratitude to all active addon and mod makers here. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=92503 I just felt the urge to say simply thanks. As you can see a lot of views 6 replies. In any case have a great 2010, take a break from ArmA modding/coding in case you can. LOL:D My best wishes regards nettrucker

    Isla Duala

Hi IceBreakr Duala is a truly masterpiece as far as I could see from the video. Thanks for you effort and hard work. I believe that this Island is gonna make history in ArmA II. Can't wait for your release. Since Islands are my favourite toys of this game I am really excited to take a hike on Duala. Thank you so much.:notworthy:

    FDF Podagorsk

Yeah I experienced the same on Namalsk. I'm not sure if these modules are working on user made Islands. cheers nettrucker:)

Arma II Best user made Island

I've made the poll multi choice so that you can select the Islands you like most. I for myself did a multiple choice voting, since every Island I voted is top notch and unique in it's creation. Every Island got it's own atmosphere. The ones I voted are my preferred and the best released so far IMHO. Cheers nettrucker:D
