Arma 3 CPU vs RAM performance comparison 1600-2133= up to 15% FPS gain
mamasan8 replied to dasa's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/adata-ddr4-memory-ram,27366.html I wouldn't jump on that boat in a hurry, the timings are just...better of with DDR3. -
action menu on the top left disappeared after setting custom UI layout

Restart game, messes up the UI when you change any UI-setting. -
Typing the launch-codes for nukes has never been EASIER! :P Now you can do it from the safety of your home.

I feel the fact that you can't move after walking 100 metres when fatigued is unrealistic. Is someone trying to tell me soldiers can't move more than 500 m before they fall over? Walking should be unimpeeded. Soldiers can do that for hours, in a desert, with rocky areas. Just ask the french army when they operated in Mali (hot hot place). The other thing is Ammo bearers/AT/MGs, who HAVE to carry a big load, backpacks and all. Who really wants to play those when you are lagging behind the rest of your crew all the time? An MG with no backpack can only carry 1 or 2 mags. Really useful MG, that. Might as well surrender.

You don't think I know that? I always tell AI to stop when theres hostile contact reported. Because the stupid AI wont stop and shoot otherwise. And press 2 and whatever target was reported. It just falls on deaf ears, mostly. Same stuff from OFP days still here. Even if I do give em a target, they run around like headless chicken while Im thinking "He is RIGHT THERE! Right there, you moron, shoot him!! Oh, ffs, do I have to do EVERYTHING?" And everything is usually what I have to do.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
mamasan8 replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I wouldn't argue the FPS is consistent when its 40 fps in the woods all alone and nothing to shoot at compared to max 20 fps in a town with a few targets (the use-case, why people buy games like Arma as opposed to paint and watch it dry). Draw distance matters very little to my FPS, as long as I dont use some ridiculous ones like 12k view and 4k object distance (5 fps drop). Difference between 1k metres view + object (the lowest) versus 3k view and 1.5k object (infantry standard) is something like 1-2 fps. Rest of the settings might as well not be there, does F all for FPS. -
All you need is here https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Startup_Parameters Why go on unofficial sources? And some of it being old? Well, in the scripting language used, some of it is from OFP/Arma1. It works, why change it. Some get added, some get deprecated, thats normal.

I cant remember how many soldiers you get, like 6 or something. Well, all but two died to first enemy soldier spotted. This is generally true for any engagement I'm involved in with friendly AI. 4 Friendlies required to kill 1 enemy. My KD-ratio is always 10 to 1, be it coop or SP. So it was just me +2 vs the rest. The other 2 died at the compound up the hill(early). So last armor and camp I had to clear out myself. Took hours to complete. Also turned on unlimited saves. Only mission I had to use that on. I only have 1 comment. Friendly AI is frikking stupid! "Oh look, a tank, yeah, I'll just get up and run infront of it, they won't see me", "Oh, enemy soldier? I should report it to leader and then just watch while my squad gets obliterated. Good plan." Duh!

Been like that for months and AFAIK hasn't even been mentioned that anyone is looking into it. Next year perhaps.

A-10 Gun Runs bring performance to a grinding halt.
mamasan8 replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I didn't do a lot of testing but it seemed to get fixed by lowering sound cards settings to 24bit 48k Hz. -
I can only agree with this if OFP is any guideline. I fired it up a month ago, thinking I should have good fps. I locked the FPS to 100 Hz but it still dropped to 60 fps in places. Sitting in the back of the truck, basically just drawing the road and a couple trees. What suprised me was that the dip came when OFP was drawing LESS. In any other game from that time period I would probably get 300-500 FPS. Then I think about Mafia, Hidden and Dangerous. Also had abysmal performance that never got fixed. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/26/czech-veterans-form-new-studio-warhorse/ Think that game is a buy? =)

Theres an option in settings, under difficulty called Unlimited Saves. Something like Configure, Gameplay, Difficulty. -

Weapon sway is an exact replica from COD:Ghosts. At least on console. -
A-10 Gun Runs bring performance to a grinding halt.
mamasan8 replied to mordeaniischaos's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've experienced this as well. At first I thought it was JSRS but then I tried without it and the same happened, dropped to 1-3 FPS. Sound starts crackling. This didn't happen before 1.24. I have A-10s and Blackfoots circling a town, not sure which (or both) crafts that cause it. -
I just wonder...since those tests were with an i7, how much of the performance was gained because the previous drivers were buggy/insufficient and was there some kind of optimizations turned on by default in new driver? Like 'Brilinear', Aniso optimization etc. I mean, an i7 is hardly bottlenecking any system. So kinda irrevelevant to test a system with i7 installed. Mid range GPU and CPU would have told us something. I know both companies "optimize". Brilinear is an old trick both AMD and Nvidia has used for years. A mix between bilinear and trilinear, depending on situation. Optimize = better performance, lower quality picture.
-
Then TrackIR etc would be a cheat as well. But since that support has to be developed into a game...it's like calling Oculus support a cheat.

Can use 1 folder, 20, 200. But what system can you manage/keep track of? And how do you want to launch it? Via batch-file, via shortcut with cmdline or some addon syncer etc. Commandline only takes a few characters, after that its batch-file or similar workaround.

Did you try without any commandline arguments? Have you checked the arma3.cfg-file? -Window http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3_Startup_Parameters "Screen resolution / window size are set in arma3.cfg." Also, I can't see any mention of a -nobenchmark, only -benchmark which seems to be unfinished.

New drivers reminds me of this http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/180088-nvidias-questionable-geforce-337-50-driver-or-why-you-shouldnt-trust-manufacturer-provided-numbers A lot of hyperbole. I wish it was true since I now own an Nvidia-card. Been using ATI for 10 years prior. Never seen as ridiculous claims. Btw, still getting 14-20 fps on my MP mission, run locally. Went from 337 to 340 drivers.

Custom Loadout not working on more than one player
mamasan8 replied to Ice_Rhino's topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
http://steamcommunity.com/app/107410/discussions/0/558749824362537157/ I think you will have to script it in. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out, theres a wiki for script commands. http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/addItem Watch this Check last post here as well http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=20986 Cook me some food! :P Sometimes saving a mission in editor doesnt seem to work. In that case you can save it under new name but remember to copy all files except mission.sqm to the new folder from the old folder. I'm lazy so I rarely do that (only when I'm forced, when server won't load mission). Normally I just go to Intel and change the name but save it as same. So, Intel might say Name: mission_nr200 but i'm still saving it as ubersniperklown1 (missionname-folder under my documents) when exporting to MP. Classnames-list http://browser.six-projects.net/cfg_weapons/classlist?utf8=%E2%9C%93&version=73&commit=Change&options[group_by]=weap_type&options[custom_type]=&options[faction]= Couldn't find backpacks above, found them here http://wiki.7thcavalry.us/wiki/ARMA_3_Backpacks_and_Vests And one last tip: add a magazine before adding the gun. This way the gun will be loaded and ready. Quick sniper-loadout-example, tested in editor, should work. Save as loadout.sqf for example and place in your mission folder. C:\Users\username\Documents\Arma 3 - Other Profiles\Armaname\missions\missionname.islandname In the units init, put: null = [this] execvm "loadout.sqf"; waituntil {!isnull player}; _unit = _this select 0; removeallWeapons this; removeallassigneditems this; removeBackpack this; removeallitems this; removevest this; removeuniform this; _unit addmagazine "7Rnd_408_Mag"; _unit addweapon "srifle_LRR_F"; _unit addprimaryweaponitem "optic_Nightstalker"; _unit adduniform "U_B_GhillieSuit"; _unit addvest "V_TacVestCamo_khk"; _unit addbackpack "B_HuntingBackpack"; _unit additem "ItemWatch"; _unit additem "Itemcompass"; //_unit additem "itemgps"; _unit additem "itemradio"; _unit additem "itemmap"; _unit additem "nvgoggles"; _unit addweapon "laserdesignator"; _unit additem "firstaidkit"; _unit additem "b_uavterminal"; _unit assignitem "Itemwatch"; _unit assignitem "Itemcompass"; //_unit assignitem "itemgps"; _unit assignitem "itemradio"; _unit assignitem "Itemmap"; _unit assignitem "nvgoggles"; _unit assignitem "laserdesignator"; _unit assignitem "b_uavterminal"; _unit addmagazines ["7Rnd_408_Mag", 10]; _unit addmagazines ["laserbatteries", 2]; if (true) exitwith {}; Note: Laserdesignator is an addweapon. If I use additem it only ends up in inventory. -

And here I was thinking someones sneaking up on me, constantly =) -
The benchmark has you teleporting all over the map, assets being loaded from disk, transferred to RAM. So bandwidth matters. But how is the performance impacted when you are in a town and have been for a while? Nothing should be loading from harddisk. Hence bandwidth shoud be no issue anymore. I tried local LAN yesterday (just me running client + server). Tried with JSRS, BabeMidTex and a bunch of mods. 20 fps in town (kavala) tops. Ran without mods, 20 fps tops. Mods had no noticable impact. I'm not running blastcore. And GL5 really drops my fps by 10 cause the town is lit on fire and half of it is burning after a while (tested a week ago). 7-10 fps is not playable. I should mention I have 250-300 AI on that mission. Tried with unit caching and without it(most AI are in town so doesn't cache a lot of units).Very little if any gains seen. With AI mods(Bcombat, FFIS, and some other I forgot name of) and without them. Tried processlasso. Tried overclocking from 4ghz to 4.4 ghz (both memory and multiplier). Doesn't matter what I throw at it. Same fps and GPU is idling.

Custom Loadout not working on more than one player

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/publicVariableClient Found it here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?180960-Get-player-who-runs-script But if you want more help from people, what exactly did you type in the init field? Did you use THIS or <UNITNAME> etc? this addweapon blaablaa; this addmagazine blaablaa;? player1 addweapon blaa; player2 addmagazine blaa;? You could also simplify (read: be lazy like me) by using VAS or Virtual Arsenal in your mission, if that is an option. With Virtual Arsenal, just put down an ammobox and in the init field put this: ["AmmoboxInit",[this, true]] call BIS_fnc_arsenal; Can customize your loadouts, save/load. VAS: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?149077-Virtual-Ammobox-System-%28VAS%29 I like VAS more, its simpler, faster, doesn't give me a loading screen. Youtube-vid that might be of interest
