What is weird is connecting to a server and when I get to choose role (Invade & annex, marksman, rifleman etc), gpu utilization goes to 100%. Weird because it is not drawing any graphics. GPU should be in 2D-mode. And 2, it is utilizing my GPU to the fullest. This happens nowhere else ingame.

Double your FPS ...play some other game released this year...

One thing I noticed yesterday. My comp utilization is always 30% util. on CPU (fx-8350) and 40% on GPU EXCEPT...when I'm flying over water. Then it raises to 70% on GPU, with or without Caustics. This makes me wonder if Utilization is held back on purpose. Also, kinda weird that rendering water requires just as much from my graphics card (7870) as rendering of the rest of the world combined.

I've seen a sniperrifle take out a bush. That was a 'WTF'-moment.

TMR Scope mod is nice but it can only be used offline, which I do. So 'fixing' sway would benefit in multiplayer as well. IMHO, it is overdone atm. Pressing 'Hold breath' every time I shoot should not be a pre-requisite. To take an example. If I am playing a machinegunner and meet someone close-up, 50-100 metres, I don't use scope. Hipfiring works better. Not realistic. Why? Because I'm more accurate hipfiring than trying to compensate for sway/recoil/breathing while scoped.

I dont know if this has been discussed but Grenade damage. I can drop a grenade at my feet and not die, every single time. It takes 2 grenades to suicide. This is more arcade than COD imho.

Arma 3: Community wishes & ideas- NO DISCUSSION

Cancel Last Order: For when you happen to give AI a wrong order or want them to return to doing the previous order. Question: Have you ever given AI an order and then realised you pressed a wrong button or the situation changed so that the new order is no longer relevant? Wouldn't it be nice if you could revert that order? One example is 'disembark'. I know of no way to revert that order. To expand on that. An ability to create preset orders. I know I use 'copy my stance', 'engage at will', 'combat mode' all the time. Would be nicer if there was a preset I could save all those under. -
I don't think theres anything we can do, besides getting hired by BIS and coding an engine fix. I just upgraded my computer. Had an athlon x2 at 3.2 ghz, upgraded to fx 8350 at 4ghz. Differences in games I've tried: Splinter Cell: Blacklist 20 fps-> 60 fps (no vsync) Far cry 3: 20 fps-> 60 fps (still no vsync) Arma 3: 10-15 fps -> 20-25 fps. This is both in MP and SP. I made a mission with 100 AI fighting in a town which I like to run. Throwing hardware at the problem changes very little. In those other 2 games, my graphics card (hd7870) finally gets to work, it gets hotter than ever! But in Arma 3? Almost idle. Same with CPU. Hardly ever over 40% utilization, on CPU/GPU. Temps are 10 degrees lower across the board than in any other game. Even Planetside 2 runs much better and it used to run like shit for me.

In OFP, AI could shoot you through bushes, trees, grass. That got fixed in a later patch. I can't believe we are back there. I watched that AI video. Pure cheating. Concealment serves no purpose in this game. It might help approaching enemies but as soon as you shoot once, AI know where you are. Even with silencer on. Just seems to take a splitsecond longer. I would expect the reaction to be "Someones shooting at us, all take cover and scan horizon". Instead I get "He's there, shoot him between the eyes". I was under fire and decided to go into a house. I was carefully approaching the window, leaning to watch outside to see where enemy was. As soon as I looked outside, I got headshotted. Infantry AI on the move = stupid. Run straight at me, jumping around carelessly like kindergarten kids. Infantry AI stopped = worse than Terminator.

I have only one thing to mention. The model when the plane gets destroyed. I don't know if its been fixed in latest release but it used to separate into 8 parts or so but all stayed glued together. Looks a bit weird to me. Other than that I love the plane. I adore it, thanks for your work. -
I have 2 thoughts about this. The campaign in OFP was great, it was huge, fun, special, showed what you could do with the game. No mission I played came close to the intensity and feelings the campaign managed to bring forth. 1. In Arma 1 and 2, I only tested the campaigns, didn't get very far, simply cause the magic wasn't there. 2. So, I dont expect Arma 3 campaign to be as awesome as OFPs or the Resistance-expansion campaign. Which makes it easier to discard as not important. Speaking of my preference, if the campaign is no good, what I have left is MP and various mods. Which is also what I've mostly focused on since Arma 1. I did play OFP online a lot, I mean for years. Just that the campaign set the tone in a way for the whole game.

But still, overclocking wouldn't do anything about server performance, which is the main problem to begin with.

Sure, he reached 8Ghz but did he benchmark the system? That would be interesting to me. Not if a system can run at 8Ghz for a few minutes. Would it be better than an Intel running 5 Ghz?

Arma3: Metascore 73 | Spelunky: Metascore 91 | what the fuck?
mamasan8 replied to alleycat's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I tend to not read the zeros or the tens, they are either haters or fanboys. If I want a picture of what a game is like, I go for the middle, 2-8 in score. Those reviews usually list the good/bad stuff in a civilized manner instead of just spouting nonsense and giving a ridiculous score based on a feeling of "I believe the hype and am blinded by it" or in case of zeros "I didn't buy the hype, you suck". I also feel QuarterToThree was dead on. Think he gave 2/5 stars, thats more than 20 points 'imo', more like 40. The bottomline I got from that review was: "Come back in a year and try Arma3. Until then..." I trust user-reviews more than magazine-reviews. -
Devs, please explain this performance

Quit being cheap, send me your money. http://www.3dmark.com/search#/?mode=advanced&url=/proxycon/ajax/search/cpugpu/3dm11/P/1391/832/500000?minScore=0&cpuName=Intel%20Core%20i7-3930K%20Processor&gpuName=NVIDIA%20GeForce%20GTX%20650%20Ti http://www.3dmark.com/search#/?mode=advanced&url=/proxycon/ajax/search/cpugpu/3dm11/P/32/832/500000?minScore=0&cpuName=Intel%20Core%202%20Quad%20Processor%20Q6600&gpuName=NVIDIA%20GeForce%20GTX%20650%20Ti Smaller difference than only comparing CPUs. In 3dmark (and by extension, games), your GPU would be the bottleneck. Also notice that many of the scores have OC'd CPUs and more than 1 graphics card. Filter those out. -
What is the deal with servers and mods!! >: (
mamasan8 replied to CombatComm1's topic in ARMA 3 - MULTIPLAYER
For me its the other way around. I have to turn OFF mods when I want to play online. And that to me is like turning off all the fun. If I want to play with guns and other stuff, I have to do it in SP, which gets stale fast. In Multiplayer I cannot use any mods. It was the same in Arma 2 and still is. I don't expect that to change. I wish it did change. -
HardOCP does some extensive ArmA 3 GPU testing
mamasan8 replied to bangtail's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
That comment confused me. Full potential? My CPU & GPU are never running 100%, both are almost idle, going by temps. In other games under load, CPU is 40C, GPU 50C +. In Arma 3, CPU is 2 degrees above idle temp, 32C and graphics card around 40-45C. Its like something is holding back my whole machine. CPU cores at 70% utilization max, graphics usually 0-20% <- Only rises if I use Antialiasing 4x or 8x. But still low utilization, maybe 50%. -
Has been like that since OFP, AI always flanking. It is more refined now.

What Graphic Card for my new i5 4570?
mamasan8 replied to DocSnug's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html -
Yup, but a new PC requires a new Gfx card as well. Otherwise, whats the point in upgrading if you leave the other half of the bottleneck in your computer. And the tip was just mentioned 'in general'. Don't buy now, wait a month, whoever's getting a new gfx card.
-
If someones going to buy a new graphics card, I would suggest they wait a month or so. http://www.techspot.com/news/54182-rumor-nvidia-to-cut-gpu-prices-in-november-to-compete-with-amd.html http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-radeon-r9-290x-release-date,24465.html The current graphics cards prices will surely drop a lot. Getting a brand new card isn't worth it. You are paying 50-100% more for 5-10% more performance. Same with CPUs.

Arma 3 Engine - What would have been a better option and what can we learn?
mamasan8 replied to squirrel0311's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Cryengine, how does it handle flight? Seen any game use aerial vehicles? Can it handle it at all? Can it be programmed in and what would be the limitations? Lots of questions instantly which needs answers. If you use in-house engine like BIS does, they know exactly what it can do and how to add stuff it can't do. Basically its custom-made for Arma-series. -
At what moment did you realize the magnitude of these games?
mamasan8 replied to iceman77's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Read about OFP in PcGamer, had to try the demo (or vice versa, long time ago). That mission where I was left in some forest, in the dark with only the stars to navigate by....that brought a very special feeling. After trying the demo there was no doubt...had to get the full game. The expansion was also great, the 2nd one. Not (Wiki to the rescue) Red Hammer, the other, Resistance. Version 1.90 patch. More or less required to buy the expansion to play multiplayer in the end. Lovely times. A friend was always making missions and we would play them. So much fun. 2 choppers flying low, 15 m from the ground, following the roads, following each other, on the way to the AO. Land and start a fight =) First huge openworld sandbox I can remember playing, that was FUN! Havent seen better since. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Flashpoint:_Cold_War_Crisis I feel something has happened to the aiming. In OFP I felt like I had pixelperfect aim. In Arma1 and later it takes forever for me to aim within 10m of anything. With sniperrifle it is easier but with normal rifles I can't hit much. Theres some kind of floatiness... -
1rst Person Breathing noises way too loud and unrealistic.
mamasan8 replied to big_t's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Probably already mentioned but anyways. Breathing heavily from running 5-10 metres, really!? I wasn't even sprinting. This is just ridiculous. Not only is the sound annoying and the pulsing screen but in addition to that, the aim is swaying like crazy. Are we playing as soldiers or some 400 pound fat slob whos never seen 'the outside'? I would vote for the latter, considering how the whole thing is implemented.
