True. I did not want to bore people with historical facts behind this book :) ARMA 3 setting in context of island, landscape textures or even some buildings (well, maybe after some little changes like removing electronic devices) fits perfectly. Even now some places on Altis island remind unfortunate Mandracos town from the book/movie... If somebody is interested in great performance of David Niven and Gregory Peck, the movie is here YOUTUBE

About the setting (island, story etc) of this mod...One suggestion... There is this great old WWII book (and movie) called THE GUNS OF NAVAROVE. Enough said :)

I'm a big fan of incorporating USA land into ARMA. I remember doing USA like islands for OFP as a part of AirWolf mod. Unfortunately, there are still AI and engine barriers that limit big cities projects. If I may say something - focus on american like towns, suburbs, highways or airports instead of big cities like NY. Urban fight in big cities - it's BF4 task... Arma potential lies in little towns/ countryside battles.

Although I have always prefered apocaliptic desert like USA settings (Aka Fallout 1 and 2) I must say your project looks very nice. Very Stalker alike... Keep those objects coming :) -

True but there are plenty of great 3d modelers and texture makers in the community but only few great coders like you. I'm sure that someone will offer his help with that if you send a signal you want to do such thing. I think it would be a great addition to your construction project.- 157 replies

Good to hear that... Big fan of your project. Any plans of making scary shark atack animation combined with player's struggle animation - something like in Far Cry 3?. It would be great if, when shark grab you for the first time you have this animation of struggling with him (let's say that it is bitting your hand), then he let go (if it isn't extra hard, some "key control to press" implemantation to free yourself would be nice). If shark grab you for the second time you are dead :)

Serious injuries (graphic) - gore/violence
iguanapl replied to Michaelp800's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Don't see how gore scenes would improve gameplay. Somebody said that it would allow to incorporate complex medical treating system. It can be done without it as well. Some wound textures will do the job. OK, ARMA is some sort of simulator but there must be boundaries. I still remember soldier who got wounded during bomb attack. Massive burn injuries of his body was nothing comparing it to the fact that he didn't have lower part of his face (We made him new mandible using fibular free flap - he was very happy with the results in case if you want to know). I don't think that putting similar stuff in ARMA should be BIS priority. There are other things that could be done to make ARMA better game. -
Should Arma 3 open a hat store on steam?
iguanapl replied to craptakular's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
If implemented it would significantly contribute to quick melee fight feature development by community, hehehe. Quoting A. Einstein: I don't know what weapons would be used before this ammo microtransactions, but after their implementation people will use sticks and stones" :) Amen to that. BTW. Microtransactions sucks... -
Thanks to OFP/ARMA many people have mastered modding skills and sometimes I think they could go further just than making addons for one game. Let's take Day Z or Iron Front for an example. Many of OFP/ARMA fans treat ARMA as an modding platform more than game itself. I was wondering if there is a chance that someday we will see Complete ARMA III Developer's Kit (or as you like Real Virtuality 4.0 engine) similar to UDK or CryEngine Kit with some sort of indie developers licence (Like X % of profits like CryEngine)? Nowadays, thanks to initiatives like KickStarter, SteamGreenlight, GOG etc. , many people who treat addon making as a hobby, can finally try to take a big shot and become indie developer. The passion, skills and commitment of OFP/ARMA modding community makes it very possible that some of their indie projects could be very successful products. I am very curious what others have to say on this subject.

ARMA 3 / Real Virtuality 4.0 engine Developer's Kit"
iguanapl replied to iguanapl's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Not to worry. ARMA 3 modding tools will be available sooner or later - I think that BIS is focusing on polishing ARMA 3 final version right now. What I meant in my first post is that ARMA 3 (Real Virtuality 4.0) engine seems to be great indie game engine - way more user frienldy and better than UDK etc in many ways. In my opinion BIS should try to create similar license offer. I predict that many funny and good games could be created with this. Take on Mars??? What could be next :P hehe. -

iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
After the reference page you have sent, I am sure they used false terrain. The general concept is good but not for hole island terrain. Like I wrote before some artificial terrain objects like big rocks or dirt hills that could be modified would do the trick :)- 157 replies

iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Yeah, I remember he was working on something like that, but I think it was flat terrain-like object modicifation not real BIS terrain itself. Spooner was interested in this subject as well. Here is few videos. I know that VBS2 has underground objects... Always wonder why BIS didn't incorporate this feature into ARMA.- 157 replies

iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
It looks really nice. iBuild is also very catchy name. Have you also considered going in opposite direction? I mean digging like option. I am not thinking about Minecraft like option - BIS terrain can't be changed but about in-game modification of existing object. For example by creating special object - lets say a huge rock in which player can dig a tunnel or a cave - of course the possibility of digging is highly stricted and oriented - player has little control, he doesn't have much options, he just choose from pre-defined corridor path. I see various applications with this option - tunnels, caves or trenches (made in special pile of dirt). What to do think about that :) ? I look forward to see more of your work.:)- 157 replies

Modular Construction Mod by NerdMod
iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Don't get me wrong. I don't want gameplay to be super realistic. I have analized the list of features that you want to incorporate into the final addon and give it a thought. The concept I have presented seems to be most logical and fun that I can think of. I just wanted to give my way of view. I don't think that any 'Claim Land" mechanic as you have called it would be needed. The contours of the structure would be visible only to him or his team. If somebody would stand in the planned structure site there would be info (similar to those in your latest video) that something is interfering with the construction making it impossible to build. Player would have to 1) gently ask (probably by shooting ;) ) inferering thing to move making the building process available again; 2) cancel the construction site or 3) move it somewhere near. Thanks to first stage (construction planning) player know what materials he will be needed so gameplay can focus on resources gathering cuz some goal of action have been created. It would also prevent patological in my opinion process of way too fast builiding that I called "You're shooting & I'm building" theory in which enemy has destroyed our wall and the player can rebuild it in few seconds - I know that long building time can be set to prevent it but still, I think that some more advanced logistics wouldn't hurt. Don't want to expand my idea now cuz we both don't have time for it. Besides those things aren't a priority right now - construction interface etc. seem to be relatively simple matter comparing with monstrosities you have to face right now (like AI problems etc). Thx for listening And please call me Iguana  P.S. I think the game you mentioned is Sanctum 1 or 2...- 157 replies

Modular Construction Mod by NerdMod
iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I see this project is developing well. Check out its website (NerdMod gives the link in his posts), there is even more info. Last video was superb - it seems that author is aware of ARMA terrain/islands limitations and wants to cope with them in the begining. I have one sugestion... I know that so far we only see early concept presentation but I would like to know in what direction building process will eventually go. Personally I would vote for creating the structure plan first (like on the videos but without actual object placement), player would then be given information what and how many resources are needed. He would have to gather and bring them to the construction site. Then the true building process could start. This would be more realistic and fun - I am not fan of so called big inventory pockets (like keeping 100 giant piles of wood in your backpack at one time). Please continue to amaze us all :)- 157 replies

Modular Construction Mod by NerdMod
iguanapl replied to nerdmod's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Very impressive... One of the most incredible feature I've seen for OFP/ARMA games. When I saw you work I came back to my very old idea for a mod... Since OFP I have always known that ‘Robinson Crusoe’ like gameplay would have large gaming potential. Nowadays, crafting, building and survival gameplay is very popular – MineCraft , DayZ mod... Seeing Arma 3 potential – inventory, rich underwater environment, improved graphics, physics engine and others...-I’ve started to rethink my idea of a mod which is set in Robinson Crusoe book scenery (I think those times would be better for gameplay than the modern times). Almost every needed feature has been already done in OFP-ARMA 1 and 2. I must say that your work could be called a "mile stone" feature... Popular these days cooperative survival game will attract many players. Large tropical island, shipwrecks full of needed items, object crafting, food gathering and farming, building, wild animals to hunt and be afraid of, ancient temples hidden deep in the jungle with quests and adventures to push game action forward, pirates and cannibals etc... As we know BIS islands can be huge so many players could play on the same island and create own groups without owercrowding the whole place. Anyway, great work!!- 157 replies

I'm thinking about post-nuclear warfare mod. It's just an idea at the moment.Maybe when I will have new pc and little free time. Anyway...In my opinion ArmA is perfect (so as OFP) for such mod. Huge desert areas, destroyed cities make lag free world. ArmA campain isn't realistic ,com'on few civils in huge city like Paradiso, but it's because game engine and our pc limitations - in post-nuclear world small number of civilians per mission isn't nothing strange. Don't say that we have to do something like great fallout-no RPG like stuff,or lasers or other "wunder waffe",ok mutans like ghouls or supermutants are welcome to see  But bunch of riders, bandits and civilians survivors should do the trick. There is no need to make new weapons because mod could use current weapons packs. The most important task is to make postnuclear climate. So work should mainly focus on the apocaliptic world.Large deserts do not need hard work and many new special objects and textures. We need destroyed buildings, bridges, dirty road and highways covered by sand etc. About missions there is many possibilities from Hitcher's carwars like for OFP ,BOH like tactical missions,IV world war to lonely travel through the desert to find water chip or GECK  I think such mod is worth to be discussed Few pics of what I am thinking about PIC1 PIC2 PIC3

THAT I DO NOT BOUGHT ARMA IT DO NOT MEANS I DIDN'T PLAY IT I TESTED IT FOR 2 WEEKS AND ALWAYS AFTER EVERY PATCH RELEASE... SORRY FOR THIS POST BUT TOPIC WAS BLOCKED DON'T KNOW WHY AND IT'S RATHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Quo vadis BI? I should ask this question when ArmA was released but I thought then that things go better...But they getting worse ArmA Expansion Pack So I ask once more Quo vadis BI? And I would get an answer from somebody from BI studio... What happend to you guys??Where are those old you guys, full of cool ideas and inovations in their heads? Why did you stop with ArmA on the OFP level?...From the info I can say that this expansion pack will be step back. And that can be a nail to your coffin...Where are your ambitions? Why still we get ofp instead of ofp2. There is only one reason of BI financial problems - the fact Arma didn't sell well but it's is not our fault ...Arma is not very good game, you guys just stop in OFP era and that is the reason. Sniper Skull said on the other topic "i'll buy 3 copies just like i did ArmA"...Well I bought 3 copies of OFP and 2 RES.But I didn't buy ArmA(maybe when tools will be released-to tools I will back later) and I won't buy this pack.I'm OFP fan since it came out,3 days after wrp edit was done i released my first island.I was with you guys from the start(well on the forum since 2005 because I didn't have good net) but I have some borders. And you crossed it by releasing AmrA which does not give any major improvements,no big changes but with full of bugs and boring campain and few vehicles, some without an interior...And know you want to make soldier of fortune 3 with some extra addons?Thinks it's bad idea...Verrrrry bad. You didn't bancrut because many OFP fans buy ArmA but they shouldn't just like me and you don't respect that(ArmA still have many bugs)-you want to take a shortcut again by doing this funny campains... I think that people want to see modern realistic army military operations not bunch of cowboys running in the jungle...Where is your ambition? Why don't to do something hard like import to ArmA good tank or airforce missions, combat system?Make something new like carrier.Don't take shortcut... About modding tools which makes that OFP lives to this day...I think you won't released them since this expansion came out.Hmm...I think that ArmA community is not very happy about that, some of them might be gone...Mods are main force od OFP and ArmA.You must know that  I see only hope for Arma in great addon makers community - not in BI.If you can't make something better than that what  is written in the info maybe instead of selling expansion sell us editing tools...?If you really can't make better release tools wait a moment and sell the best addons and campains done by addon makers...they will be for sure better than that you want to push into public  I really like BI but it's a shame to look at fall of those giants who few years ago made one of the best game ever...I hope that people that share my opinion help mi to convince BI that they can't afford second mistake like ArmA and mobilize them to much more harder work for their own good  Don't let to BI go down... I STILL BELIVE IN BI AND I BELIVE THAT THEY WON'T DO THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN AND MAKE GAME 100% BETTER THAN OFP
-
If you could read not only saying how good ArmA is you would know that I didn't buy ArmA...
-
I read that 1.08 is final...no new patches to expansion release...And do you think it's ok to release unfinished game??Ofp was full of bugs too but do this mistake twice??Is it right?
-
Hmm...Sorry I can't call sh**t a pizza just because it has mark "Made by BI" just like you blind kids do
-
Nope sorry...My topic is about ArmA and expansion pack and future of BI .There is no such topic in which discussion about those three is placed so I make a new one... I now what ArmA is...You call it 1.5 OFP...I call it OFP 0.5...It's mainly about the graphics. Some mods from OFP beat Arma on the head in new improvements...Time running and Arma is where OFP is. There is much more stupid topics and they exist with no problem...You want to close this topic because I'm not blind like you and I see dark side of Arma.I telling what I think...I have right to do that... I don't want Arma to be Game 2 I want Arma to be Arma not OFP with better graphics...
