Around three months ago I decided that I wanted to pursue something on my bucket list; which is creating a Middle Eastern Terrain that is more urban and Iraq-oriented. I thought there were very many good Afghan-terrains available, but a select few for Iraq; so with guidance from a few people (whom I'll mention later), I started a project that would be one of my most complicated and time-consuming yet. Sa'hatra. I didn't want to make a WIP thread until I felt I had something adequate to show, but now I do, so I figured now was the time. Sa'hatra is a semi-fictional terrain set somewhere near the Sulaymaniyah region. It features a small river, dense date palm forests, mountainous zones, agricultural areas/farms, and of course a large city with two adjacent wings, and a smaller town. The data was sourced from the Iraq-Iran border; but ultimately the terrain could be purposed as Syrian or somewhere else in the Middle East. However, most of my inspiration here comes from Iraq, and I've been using references from it closely. That being said, I'll dump pictures of it now, since I think that's the most important part of the thread. Satellite Image: I've spent the last few months making new GDTs, date palms, street signs, sidewalk objects, and etc to make the city feel unique and distinctive. The terrain is 8km in size and captures all essences of all of my desired traits listed above (city, farmlands, river, etc). It was very important to me for the city to feel like it had real planning and detail behind it, hence why it's taking a bit more time than I'd like. Of course, the rural areas are just as important to me. I'll be posting additional progress in this thread from time to time, I don't have a discord dedicated towards this terrain or my projects, but Opteryx's discord serves as the place where I post most of my progress. Speaking of that; none of this could have been possible without Opteryx and his assistance in helping me every step of the way with questions and ideas, to technical tips and explanations. For that I'm eternally thankful. I'm also incredibly thankful to M1lkm8n & JBAD for their assistance in allowing me to use their work as well. There's much to do yet, but I'm very excited and hopeful for people to be able to play around and have a good time with this in the future, just like all of my other terrains. Thanks. TL:DR Stats: 8km 2m Cell Size Iraq-Oriented Terrain. Images above.

Hi Steven! I've updated my inheritance structure so people should no longer have issues if they run Splendid Lighting (or other major lighting mods) with my terrain, feel free to publish any lighting overhaul you'd like for Sa'hatra.- 142 replies

jujurat replied to jujurat's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Hi Steven, nothing against lighting mods, I strictly just don't want people to run them with my map (and have issues), so it's something I'm looking into fixing with a restructure of the terrain's inheritance in the config! Once I've got something sorted, I'll update the rest of my legacy terrains so they are compatible with people who want to opt for the (subpar, but I'm biased) Splendid Lighting Modification, etc.- 142 replies

I will be making some changes, there's plenty I need to do yet, both for the terrain and gear. 🙂 Feel free to get in touch if you'd consider making your thing a module.- 142 replies

Sa'hatra, Iraq/Middle Eastern Terrain
jujurat replied to jujurat's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
The recent changes have been pretty extensive. A majority of the main city got a major rework and polish, as well as plenty of tidying up in the northern portion of the map, with two new villages and a lot more subtle additions like natural walkways and that sort of thing. I'm keeping an eye on performance, considering the main city is now getting its primarily and likely (soon) final polish before release. No major hits so far. A plethora of buildings are being worked on as far as functionality, as well as additional content (I suppose I'll just spoil it, even though it's not necessarily DIRECTLY related to the thread) such as Iraq infantry gear, and insurgent stuff. This includes the fated Fedayeen helmet, M90 helmets (both with and without rubber rims), and fatigues, web gear and etc. with help from @simcardo and @Trento. Additionally, a multitude of props and useful stuff is being worked on, like new IED models and what not, as well as a M149A2 Water Buffalo by @poolpunk. All gear, props, uniforms, etc, are meant to depict Iraq in the early 2000s. So, forgive me for lack of updates while I work/crunch rather extensively on this terrain, and getting it ready for release, as well as a plethora of other content to hopefully go with it either at time of release or sometime there after. I will try to keep the thread watchers updated. Chances are, I'm busy.. working away otherwise.. Bonus content..- 142 replies

Remade all 7 skybox textures today, up to 4k for fidelity purposes. (It's been on the list for a while, and was 10 hours of work, but totally worth it.)- 142 replies

Forgot to attach pictures for non-video watching thread lurkers.. Plenty busy, been working on stuff related(?) but unrelated to the thread at hand, primarily some extra Iraqi stuff to go with the terrain. Not gonna say too much since it's still very WIP, but there's some neat additions (imo).- 142 replies

Some more pictures of Nisul. The terrain as it stands is approaching the finish line as far as object placement goes. All that is left is the farmlands to the south (which is not covered by green). Then additionally, plenty of polish for the city and making sure all is right there, and then finally, some asset touchups and finalizations. Additionally, additionally, here's some stuff I forgot to share. I have to admit that it's been a really long road to get to this point, and I just wanted to give a big thanks to @opteryx and the community for continuing to push me along to deliver this. I only wish I could have had more people at my side so I could have maybe made it 2x larger; but with play testing, I found that there's plenty of detail and space for people to get into really nice engagements. I've really sorta tried to cover all grounds with this terrain and make sure it's extremely versatile for all sorts of things, so I hope that translates well when it eventually releases (I still don't know when that'll be exactly, I'm gunning for 2023). Anyway, I'm writing like this project is done, still plenty of work to do, lol, thanks for all of the support so far- 142 replies
