  3. Around three months ago I decided that I wanted to pursue something on my bucket list; which is creating a Middle Eastern Terrain that is more urban and Iraq-oriented. I thought there were very many good Afghan-terrains available, but a select few for Iraq; so with guidance from a few people (whom I'll mention later), I started a project that would be one of my most complicated and time-consuming yet. Sa'hatra. I didn't want to make a WIP thread until I felt I had something adequate to show, but now I do, so I figured now was the time. Sa'hatra is a semi-fictional terrain set somewhere near the Sulaymaniyah region. It features a small river, dense date palm forests, mountainous zones, agricultural areas/farms, and of course a large city with two adjacent wings, and a smaller town. The data was sourced from the Iraq-Iran border; but ultimately the terrain could be purposed as Syrian or somewhere else in the Middle East. However, most of my inspiration here comes from Iraq, and I've been using references from it closely. That being said, I'll dump pictures of it now, since I think that's the most important part of the thread. Satellite Image: I've spent the last few months making new GDTs, date palms, street signs, sidewalk objects, and etc to make the city feel unique and distinctive. The terrain is 8km in size and captures all essences of all of my desired traits listed above (city, farmlands, river, etc). It was very important to me for the city to feel like it had real planning and detail behind it, hence why it's taking a bit more time than I'd like. Of course, the rural areas are just as important to me. I'll be posting additional progress in this thread from time to time, I don't have a discord dedicated towards this terrain or my projects, but Opteryx's discord serves as the place where I post most of my progress. Speaking of that; none of this could have been possible without Opteryx and his assistance in helping me every step of the way with questions and ideas, to technical tips and explanations. For that I'm eternally thankful. I'm also incredibly thankful to M1lkm8n & JBAD for their assistance in allowing me to use their work as well. There's much to do yet, but I'm very excited and hopeful for people to be able to play around and have a good time with this in the future, just like all of my other terrains. Thanks. TL:DR Stats: 8km 2m Cell Size Iraq-Oriented Terrain. Images above.
  4. BASTEK released December 16th, 2021 Hi all. I'm Vectif, I've worked on a few terrains previously (namely Djalka, and Straya), and I'd just like to come here to announce the next project I've begun working on; Bastek. A proof-of-concept terrain of attempting to create middle-eastern themed terrain for Arma 3 using Arma 3 assets. The idea of avoiding the usage of the Arma 2 assets nearly every middle east terrain uses will hopefully make Bastek have it's own style, and a unique one at it. The Arma 2 assets are great and lovely, but too many middle-east terrains look just like Takistan and Zargabad. So this is welcome, and feel free to join me on my journey of creating this terrain; I'm very excited for this project, and middle-east is one of my favourite themes in maps and videogames. I've been taking the time to research real life imagery and also playing multiple games set in middle-east to try and get as close as I possibly can to something believable and immersive. Not to mention something light in size and also very versatile. This project is fictional, and it's fully made from scratch. I drew the heightmap in greyscale and curated vanilla A3 objects that would fit the theme, alongside researching real-life images and playing games set in the theme. CLICK FOR ZOOM OR OPEN SEPARATELY FOR MORE DETAIL. Newer screenshots on newer replies to the thread. Story & Context Bastek is a fictional terrain, however, a lot of refferences and influences are taken from diverse areas of the world, such as; Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt, and Istanbul. So you may see a lot of variety in this regard as you go from area to area. Bastek is also canonically set in a time of economic and political turmoil. There is a vast difference between the richer and poorer areas, which has caused many riots and fights in the region. There's a lot of ideals in conflict that range from religion to politics and how the wealth should be divided in such regions, however, all this is often overshadowed by the success and beauty of the more popular and developed parts of the region. A once succesful country, now heading towards war. Insurgencies arise, countries begin to show support... and interest... meanwhile private military companies are starting to exploit the grey areas of their contracts. Technical details 8km size 2m cell size Expected filesize: under 200MB (this is very subject to change!) Current object count: 50k Goals First and foremost, I'd like to finish the terrain and get it out there, I hope this will provide the Arma community with a good and brand new middle eastern terrain, not to mention an unique one. I am putting my all into the design of the layouts and object placement of this terrain to try and make it the best I can both in terms of looks and gameplay. Everywhere I can I will try to place gaps, tactical vantage positions, ladders, stairs, connectors and much more to try and allow the players to be creative when traversing the terrain. Support the creator If you like my work, please consider donating! My computer is very budget and electronics are very expensive where I live, I don't have all the means nor the money to afford better hardware, I would appreciate having a more powerful computer for making more complex terrains in the future, not to mention work in a plethora of other projects I'm passionate about, all the things I make are passion projects of mine that I work on during my free time. Any amount is greatly appreciated and helpful, even just a single dollar is a lot for me. If you like what I do, this would help me a lot. Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/vectif If you have any ideas, suggestions, refferences, or would like to offer help or support me with anything in specific let me know! Thanks! -Vectif. Below in my thread replies you will see the progress of this terrain, from day one to current time as you progress in the timeline.

  6. Website: https://armadocs.purplesmoke.info/home Email: seanhe93@gmail.com DA 995 Discord: https://discord.gg/weWrB9k DA 992 Discord: https://discord.gg/jP2nX3G Introduction Detachment 995 or DA 995, a.k.a. "Specter", is a European-based ARMA 3 MilSim (military simulation) unit that operates under the Dropping Purple Smoke (DPSO) banner, a North American-based community originally established in 2013 through the game PlanetSide 2, but later on has grown its roots into ARMA 3 as well. We are the European/Middle Eastern counterpart of Detachment 992 (DA 992, a.k.a. "Phantom") which is based in the United States. After merging with DPSO and officially re-organized on June 23rd, 2020, DA 995 is the direct successor of the former international unit Task Force Wolfpack (TFWP), which itself was originally established back in September 2017. As a unit, DA 995 continues to operate on the roots of TFWP, mainly using the same schedules and time zones for the comfort of both European and Middle Eastern players - while the combat doctrine and training systems have been changed to the basis of DPSO. Technical Information Establishment Date: June 23rd, 2020 (retroactive since September 2017) Primary language: English Recruitment Status: Open DA 995 Population: 8 General DPSO Population: 24 Addons: Full list is available through our Discord server, but mainly include the DPSO custom mod/ACE/RHS/3CB Factions/ALIVE/A3U (the modpack is planned to change soon) How We Operate The gameplay style of DPSO is loosely based on ARMA 3's 2035 lore, with the aim to have operations that semi-reflect what special operations units would conduct in futuristic environments, such as covert infiltration/exfiltration, deep reconnaissance missions, HVT elimination/extraction, hostage rescue, EOD operations, HALO/HAHO and water insertions, electronic warfare, and finally sabotage missions. DPSO will rely heavily on technology, individual skills, and team work. These will not be simple missions and will test the detachments abilities with every individual operation. While the goal is to have a gameplay experience that is done at a high tactical and technical skill levels, we are a serious unit looking for quality members to take part in our missions and events. We are willing to work with anyone who has the right attitude and mindset. Also important to know is that each detachment of DPSO functions separately and will have their own operations (as per schedules and time zines). Training will be standard across all detachments, just held on different schedules, while Zeus players and pilots are a shared resource. The following list represent several major factors about DPSO and 995 as a whole: Mature group with former and present military servicemen. Using ARMA-style ranking system, but doesn't apply military discipline! Playing with 1st person only for infantry and 3rd person for vehicles. Using ACE3 and KAT advanced medical systems. Using TFAR (beta) radios as our communication system. Many opportunities to advance within the unit, from weapons specialist to training instructor and even leadership roles (aviation roles are a work in progress). Using in-house custom mod that include custom textures and patches, mission making functions, and few extra for a better gameplay experience. Dedicated servers for training, ALIVE, and joint ops. Official Events DA 995 specifically conducts three major events using the Zulu time zone (UTC+0) clock as basis; on Fridays, Sundays, and Saturdays respectively, as follows: Fridays - Training | 17:00 - 19:00 (5:00-7:00 p.m.) Saturdays - Operation | 15:00 - 18:00 (3:00-6:00 p.m.) Sundays - Training | 16:00 - 18:00 (4:00-6:00 p.m.) The reason we have two training events is to allow comfort for both European and Middle Eastern players to participate whenever they can, based on time zones and local customs or religion. Those who cannot train on Fridays, can do so on Sundays and vise versa, but there are no restrictions to participate on both events. Group Structure DPSO is portraying the fictional and elite special operations force Combat Technology Research Group (CTRG) - under the direct command of NATO - which is an important part of ARMA 3's storyline and one of the main factions. CTRG is a multi-national unit that conducts clandestine, black operations throughout the globe and broken into sub-groups, where DPSO acts as Group 99. Within the group there are several Detachments, numbered from 0 through 9: 0 = Headquarters and Support Detachments (DS) 1 through 8 = Direct Action Detachments (DA); currently active Detachments: 991 "Ghost", the HQ Detachment led by the group leader. 992 "Phantom", the NA-based Detachment. 995 "Specter", the newly established EU-based Detachment. 9 = Flight Support Detachment (currently not active) The group uses the typical ARMA ranks structure, with the group leader and detachment leaders are majors, detachment assistants are captains, and support officers are lieutenants, leaving the rest ranked from privates to sergeants - all are applied to different occupations that are ranged from weapons specialists to medics or engineers, and from basic team leaders to training instructors or even mission makers. What You Should Expect As a MilSim unit, we offer all the seriousness and methodical gameplay, but also provide fun and humor when the time allows. We are a group of players first and foremost – no need to salute or ask for permission to speak or answer with “yes, sir”, “no, sir” (or ma’am), no need to perform routine physical training, yet showing mutual respect to each other and cooperate when it is necessary. We strive to balance on the line that parts professionalism, realism and friendship, and expect from our members to be serious when the time calls for it and let loose with the jokes when it feels right. The members are our most valuable resource. Assuming a player is active, he will not stay in place for long, and those who will positively stand out will be promoted and will be allowed into exclusive occupations and act in more advanced roles. Enlistment Requirements If you wish to apply, click the following link for our application form: https://forms.gle/SqyJ793yDsBMETha9 Please note that you have the option to select which detachment you want to join. Because we currently have only two active detachments, therefore select DA 992 if you're NA based, or DA 995 if you're EU based. Basic requirements: Have a legal copy of ARMA 3, and preferably also Apex. Speak fluent or decent English. Be 16 years of age or older (players under 16 are allowed to send applications, but only mature players will be accepted). Have a functioning microphone - we need to hear you, you need to hear us. That simple. Have decent internet speed so you won't suffer too much from lags and de-syncs. Have both Discord and TeamSpeak 3 installed. Have the ability to attend at least two operations per month. Have any questions? feel free to contact us through the provided links, or right away fill and send your application form. 7. DIYALA VERSIONS I have been using the Diyala terrain for Middle East scenarios, but after having twisted it with scripts to make to look more like Syria or certain parts of Iraq, and dealing with the problem of AI not crossing the irrigation canal, I decided to settle for a faster, easier and readily available solution: just select the terrain in 3den. This set of three versions for the Diyala terrain chosable as different terrains (no irrigation, olive trees and different palm trees) 1 - Diyala (no irrigation): Same Diyala but without the irrigation channel. It's a vegetation strip instead 2 - Diyala Olives: No irrigation channel, some custom edits for Diyala and olive trees instead of palm trees 3 - Diyala Palms: No irrigation channel, some custom edits for Diyala and a different model of palm tree (Malden palms) instead of the original Tanoa ones Needs the orginal Diyala terrain as dependency. Respects @CypeRevenge work: no upload of original Diyala. Just a bunch of config.cpp and scripts. Modular: You can delete unwanted terrains and keep only one version if you want. Keep DiyalaCore.pbo and objects.pbo and at least one of the terrain configs: DiyalaPatch.pbo DiyalaPalms.pbo DiyalaOlives.pbo REQUIRED ADDONS: Diyala Map https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=680808574 DOWNLOAD LINK: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2061233414
