Yeah you're definitely out of commission, you're just not dead. Arma doesn't really simulate knocked out anymore other than getting ran over or something, but ACE and such do.

The plates that get used in these vests are able to withstand multiple 7.62x51 rounds without penetration - in fact, I recently watched a test of current plates from 20ft and they took 5 M855 rounds, 5 Mk318 rounds, and 5 M80A1 rounds to the same plate with no penetration. This was against only the ceramic plate as well, not with the additional Kevlar mesh cover and impact covers. These vests are also usually worn with side plates as well. Testing in game, the plates took 3x 7.62x51 shots from close range from the Mk18 before killing the target - if anything they'd be on the low end for armor values.

I was able to use it, at least, where I moved my head the gun would shoot - because it doesn't have a HUD crosshair, it wasn't laser accurate. It also worked when in the FLIR camera but that also didn't have a crosshair.

I mean, unequivocally if you're planning on doing a mission in an environment like Afghanistan or Iraq (which for our units is a night raid) and you leave the compound without backup irons because "you're only going to be out at night and a laser is just as good anyway" or "you're only going to be doing CQB during this raid" then yes, you are stupid. DELTA, DEVGRU, 75thRR, you are stupid regardless of your parent organization. I didn't take sunglass lenses because we'll be back before dawn, I didn't take food or water because it's a 10m TOF and we'll be back in no time, and I didn't wear rear plates because I'm not going to get shot in the back are other great examples of equivalent arguments to not taking backup irons. Our Elcans didn't have the pip sight, so unless our armorers filed them off (wouldn't doubt it, I'd rather take the thing off and use irons if it went inop) then the only way to avoid using irons is to docop it - hence why people would do it.

Only referencing IF you had a backup sight mounted ON the Elcan, it wouldn't be the small pip sight featured in RHS but rather a docop on top. Doing so isn't common in general, and everyone uses backup irons because it's stupid not to. As far as not using the Elcan, I guess. I could care less what some 'tier 1' units do because I don't find them particularly relevant. The 552+G33 combo is great if you're in a small team and you're doing primarily CQB and don't want to get caught off guard if shit goes the other way. This combo is used around the community for this reason - assault squad but not wanting to get caught with your pants down at range. Mk46/Mk48 gunners, and people on blackside/rooftops/OP, most are using the SpectreDR because it's a better option for the mission. Personally, I used a 552+G33 but I was in between roles a lot, so it made more sense. In the time I used the SpectreDR, I thought it was great and would have used it if it made sense to in a heartbeat.

We used the land version, yeah. Prior to that we had the Maritime version, but it was much bulkier, and agility is not given enough credit by the big Army/USMC. I think they were looking at transitioning to CryPrecision stuff (like the jumpable plate carrier) with the addition of the ceramic side plates that we used previously. SAS/Commandos, if I remember correctly, used the angled/heart cover setup without side plates - I only remember that it was angled and seemed to cover a lot less of your front than ours. That said, no offense to the mod maker, because it's their business and I'm just one man who likes to nit-pick, but... 1) As you can see in base Arma, these magazines are placed backwards for right handed shooters. This is basic E-1 level TTP's. http://imgur.com/a/RoHBP 2) The kits are a bit cluttered for my taste. Everyone does their kit differently, but that doesn't mean there's not a wrong way to do it - just that there is a lack of leadership in fixing that cluttered kit. A few examples would be chemlights - chemlights get tied up via 5-50 cord and broken off as needed. Worn on belt. GPS - wear on left wrist as a right handed shooter, next to watch and map/target card. Medical pouch - wear on back left/right, near kidney so it's out of the way of your elbows. Radio/Magazines - right handed shooter -> mag pouch mag pouch mag pouch radio pouch, antenna weaved through right shoulder pad or cabled on your back. Thrown - 1-2 pouches above magazines, or wear on back for other people to grab. Rest in small backpouch attached to rig. There isn't a huge difference in 'worn' kit between a medic and a machine gunner, just small changes in what pouches are used and if you're carrying a backpack or not. Like I said, agility is important, that's why these rigs are worn over others like the IBA/IOTV.

Using SpectreDR in real life is the same way, mount your laser in a different position or suffer (some minor) obfuscation. My only problem with the model is the fact that the docop on top isn't a reflex sight, which is the primary method it would be employed. The fact that the SpectreDR sits so low assists in its accurate use at farther distances. An ACOG, while not quite far enough away to move yourself out of an M4's effective point target range, is still less accurate than the SpectreDR. A sight fixed to a carrying handle, as is done on older rifles, is only accurate to ~300m.
