Good one, I doubt anyone cares about this but me :D

Has anyone noticed that mortars (M252) dont make an exploding sound sometimes? I had created a mission for me and a buddy and added a few M252's. He's new to Arma2 so everything about it blows him away :D. I remember I had tested it by firing about 6 of them at Kozlovka from about maybe 1.5KM away and loved the delayed and distant sound of them exploding. I went to show my buddy and there was no sound the next time I fired them in the same location, same map, same everything. There was sound on all the previous occasions even while playing on the same mission with a different buddy of mine. Has anyone noticed this or knows what it might be?

Who had the problem? Have you heard it and your friend not?

perhaps his soundconfiguration isn't set up very well? (for example I have the possibility to play with my Headset (5.1 Surround Sound) or the boxes of the Monitor. My computers set up is 5.1 (6 Channel sounds) - so if I play without Headset, I don't hear much).

No I was on my computer the whole time.. all the times we have played. I'm the one who brings up the server for us to play on. His comp is pretty mediocre.

Thanks for replying.

No we both heard it initially and then this week can't hear it at all. I play with the Logitech G35 with 5.1 surround and haven't changed anything since. It's weird that I can hear the mortars when they're close (like if I fire one to land really close) but when I fire them farther away I can't hear them anymore like I used to. I have even created a new mission to test it with just me in there and I get the same result.

I got combined ops a few days ago and in playing ArmA 2 I noticed lots of times that some sounds just vanish. A recreatable one is the scenario mission in ArmA 2 where you fly with the heli to some coast and raid a small town. The one pretty high up the list. There when in the helicopter when Koslovski speaks to his buddy if he is afraid I always get the rotor sounds vanishing and also all radio chatter is about 10% of its original volume. Suspending and reloading helps it tho.

Yeh I have noticed that some sounds vanish if they go into the distance or if you turn your soldier a certain way, the sound will disappear and if you turn him back towards the sound, it will reappear. For some strange reason, the mortar sound worked last night for the whole night. I guess it's just bugged!

This really shouldn't be in the MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING section. If you really think it's a bug, report it on Dev Heaven.
