Enemy can pinpoint your exact location after you set-off some satchel charges.

Recommended Posts

This bug had been mentioned a while ago back in ARMA1 (some even say OFP!) but it hasn't been fixed; I just played the [EO4 'Jackal'] scenario in ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead and after running about 300m to safety from the enemy base I set off the charges and immediately got shot in the face by people who had no nightvision and hadn't known my position previously, this put about half an hour's worth of sneaking down the drain.

In my previous attempts I had always set-off the charges when I had been spotted, so the enemy already knew my location and on some occasions I managed to get away and complete the mission, but when I hadn't been spotted the explosion lead to the enemy being able to pinpoint my position.

Please vote for this to be fixed here: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/11610

I had similar problems on my first attempt at this mission. However, I think the problem is the light of the explosion (perhaps alert flares, too?) along with the increased enemy alert levels were enough to reveal my location. Also, the tank crews do have NVGs so it's possible they saw you.

Anyhow, my solution is in the spoiler area below...

Set the satchels at the tanks, then the maintenance depot and finally the gas station. Once all charges were placed, I moved uphill from the gas station towards extraction and hid behind the boulders overlooking the area. I set off the charges, waited for a few patrols to go by (still hugging dirt near the rocks) and after a few minutes, I sprinted up hill towards the extraction zone.

It worked just fine for me so I'm not really sure this issue is actually a game issue. ;)

I'll upload it when I have time, this bug is clearly visible from my recording.

Done

The explosion is at 0:31

great video, I didn't have that problem on that mission though. Do you have super ai on by chance?

I did a little IED ambush mission an hour ago, and after I blew up the lead vehicle, I immediately got mowed down by the rest (was up the hill about 200 meters in a pretty good spot). Certainly shouldnt have seen me so quickly, and not by the whole group.

I don't understand why you took off your NVG...? Anyhow, without night vision on, the video doesn't indicate whether any of the AI patrols are nearby. Nor does it indicate whether or not you are within line of sight of the tank crews (who, as previously mentioned, have NVG of their own). It does, however, seem to show you lying out in the open even if it *is* nighttime.

It looks like folks at Dev Heaven were also unable to reproduce the "bug" and changed it to a "Feedback" ticket so I really don't know what else to say except...sorry! That really does look like a pain in the neck. Perhaps you'll have more luck if you restart the mission....it takes less than 45 minutes, if I recall correctly.

Yep, this has been mentioned before (can't remember where, it was either the buglist thread or the forums). It's very annoying but until it's fixed then best bet is to hide far away before setting off the charges.

From where he was standing (you can tell by the elevation and distance to nearest light source (lamp post nearest the tanks) he was near the drop zone, and there are no patrols on that side. The tank crews also start out inside buildings.

If you didn't notice he died within 5 seconds of setting off the charges. I doubt some ak74u touting tank crew are going to be able to run outside, look right at him and pick him off. The reasons you've come up with do not explain why/how they picked him off so quickly from such a far range. Simply not possible.

It must be the AI settings you have, becuase I have played this mission and got to the hill and had no issues, they run around searching but to no avail. Although if I even think to crouch from prone when im near/inside or at the weapons depo im history. So its seems balanced to me.

Check your settings I have both AI setting to "normal", I think you have it a lot higher, that's pretty ridiculous response time for the gunfire, must be your AI levels.

(based on Vanilla & patched no AI mods -- If your using Zeus/GL4 .. totally different results and need different manual AI settings)

1) Set realistic AI levels/difficulty

2) Crouch and go prone once over or about to go near the road and never get up again until back after the road to the hill.

3) Detonate the furthest distance you can that the Touch off option is just in range (as a guide).

I think I was as far away as you, I go up the hill to extraction and wait until touch x bombs misses one so im out of range, i move back slightly until they are all clear to touch off and back in range and use that as my guide.

SASRecon, you're doing not telling us something. I just did a playthrough @ EO4 Jackal and the only peeps with NVGs were the crewmen. A video speaks a billion words, check it out (3 parts):

EDIT: This is how you do it the pro-way, set 'em off when you like 'em. :D
