How to see a 3D model without bulldozer?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is the place to ask but here is my problem. My video card is not the best, so I can't use the bulldozer for arma 2 and as I got Arma2 by steam I doubt I will be able (by the way, I can play arma2). Im doing an addon, and I have done part of the model 3D, I want to see it not only in O2, but bulldozer is not an option for me. So, I've packed the file, I've tested with any kind of config files I could, the thing that I only have the model 3D, nothing more, so config can not really detect anything (I believe so). My model is a building, I do not see a way to test it in Arma2 in the editor. Probably, if i get a config file that works for a...crate?, building? or whatever I could see my model. Or probably there is a way to see my model without any config file? I bet for such kind of solution, as getting bulldozer working is not the one for me.

Sorry to do such a noob question, but in arma armed assault the config file of the crate was easy to do without knowing anithing of config files, so I never had those problems there, but there are not many arma2 tutorials.

Your help is important, I think on a config file able to test any 3D model, no matter if an helicopter, house or rifle, as the 3d is just like a crate, it is only the model with no specifications. If not the config method, is there another one?

Erm...maybe i miss the point but Buldozer is ArmA 2, at least it is the engine. If you could be able to see the model ingame you're surely be able to look at it in Buldozer. Finally it is ArmA 2 without any other objects except yours, so less to do for the GPU.

I am sure that you are more than capable to run buldozer just to preview your model.

You might also be able to get a similar look using a 3rd party software such as max, using directX shader

Thanks for the answers ppl.

Well, I found this thread http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77551 and similar ones but do not see a solution, I have the Arma2 in steam, and apparently that stops working the bulldozer. I think I'll try a 3rs party software as pufu said. Do you mean 3d max?

But the main thing is this: the addon is a building, I do not need to "see" the building in the buldozer, but to test it, to walk inside and so on, to realize if size is ok and that the model works, so I can texturize and so on. But it is a model with no specifications (no mass, no geometry lod, etc.), do not want to do all that without testing "in person".

I cannot help you with that since i don't own steam A2, but retail DVD.

Search function might be worth a try http://forums.bistudio.com/search.php

Sort of. I own 3ds max, hence why i brought it but. I am certain it works with a directX shader. There is even a custom powerful viewport shader available for max, that would mimik the look of the object inside a DX game.

Some other 3rd party software might work similar, even Blender (which features a wide range of tools available in all the high priced comercial software such as max, maya, modo etc, but its free). I cannot guarantee it though, since i am primarily using max for my work.

Well, the best ïn person try would be to get it inside the game. If that is not possible, bear in mind that O2 works in real world units, so you could approximate everything based on that.

I do agree though that for previewing your work, buldozer does not give the best first person feeling..
