Athriaxo 10 Posted June 30, 2010 Hello! I got my Boxed Arma 2 at home in Austria but im in Germany now... but since I realy wanna play OA im thinking to buy the download version. Now ive seen ppl say to merge them both but I dont understand what difference does it make? Are Vehicles from Arma 2 not included in OA? Can I not play multiplayer with only OA? What advantage does this merging give? Thanks for taking the time to read (and hopefully answer) my questions :) Best regards, Lucas

No, why they should. OA is an expansion for ArmA II, not the other way around. Can I not play multiplayer with only OA? Of course you can. What advantage does this merging give? Maybe so you can play with OA content in Chernarus and vice versa?
Athriaxo 10 Posted June 30, 2010 Ok, thanks for the info ... Just one more thing: If I have a boxed version at home and get the download version now, can i still merge then once i get the boxed version again? Or does it both have to be either boxed or downloaded? P.S.: Dont be angry with me ... I understand what a expansion is but I didnt understand why it is stand-alone if its a expansion ... so I asked to clarify it for me because I couldnt find the answer in the Forum anywhere ... W0lle 1052 Posted June 30, 2010 Boxed ArmA II and digital OA works. I have a retail ArmA II and a Steam OA and they are combined. Can't tell for Sprocket versions but if you look around here you surely find a thread about this combination too. Well the decision for the standalone version is that people who don't have ArmA II can still play Operation Arrowhead. Just without the ArmA II content then. :)
Jnikolai 10 Posted June 30, 2010 If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the retail and steam versions to merge. I am having trouble doing it. Thanks in advance.
T.S.C.Plage 0 Posted June 30, 2010 @Athriaxo: You should maybe check this thread. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101214 Concerning your "stand-alone expansion" question. Operation Arrowhead is an expansion for ArmA2 but it's also possible to play it as a "stand-alone" game because there are maybe people out there who aren't interest in the standard ArmA2 content. I think it's quite fair that OA was released with the capability to run on it's own.

jdmt 12 Posted June 30, 2010 I have retail ArmA II and Sprocket OA, they work fine together.
Fred DM 0 Posted June 30, 2010 the fact that you can merge both games is one of the main selling points of OA for me. i love how you can turn both stand-alone games into one huge application. too few games allow you to do that. Company of Heroes did, but Dragon Age Origins did not, for example.

Because the expansion can sell more if the original game isn't needed to run the new game.
Placebo 29 Posted June 30, 2010 Maybe we can get back on track without bickering with each other? :)

As I understand it, steam problems are caused when you can't install a steam OA into a DVD ArmAII as steam insists on having the game install in it's own folder.
