Cragvis 10 Posted June 25, 2010 I have seen and heard of some other rpg type of missions before, like aussie life and city life. My question is, is there any type of game like that for arma 2, that SAVES your progress, so you can come back and have all that you earned still? Basically turning arma 2 into some sort of MMO? silentspy 10 Posted June 25, 2010 +1 for this, maybe make arma2 servers support mysql?
Cragvis 10 Posted June 25, 2010 +1 for this, maybe make arma2 servers support mysql? That would be epic if you could have SQL queries in mission files that saves data to your own MYSQL server, and even have logins. I would KILL for an arma 2 mmo type of game. WWII online is just way too outdated.
icewindo 29 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Sahrani/Chernarus Life had this kind of saving for a long time (since about 2007 with Sahrani Life), you could create an account and stuff like money, licenses etc. were saved. However, the project went dead some while ago. http://forum.rp-mods.com/index.php?topic=6626.5;wap2 As already posted due to a lack of interest and stolen versions the project was stopped. [/Quote] http://www.moddb.com/mods/chernarus-life The main point of concern always was that the SL/CL developers didn't want people to edit their work so they added safeguards to make the missions not playable on private, non-official servers, which obviously wasn't a course of action approved by all people. icewindo 29 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Thats a crying shame. Oh yep. I always liked to play SL/CL with my buddies, joining on skype and doing patrols, setup checkpoints or robbing the bank (although robbing was just for fun since it was utterly gimped at some point and totally useless in terms of gaining $ because of whiny players and incompetent cops). There's also another rpg community ( http://www.cityliferpg.com/ ) that has saving (afaik), but as I see it it's a even more closed community than SL/CL ever was. I think they've got a thread somewhere running if they didn't die yet too. Edited June 25, 2010 by Icewindo
Cragvis 10 Posted June 25, 2010 Yea, ive been keeping track of citylife, but it seems like it will never come out.
galzohar 31 Posted June 25, 2010 To make a long story short, the people who did make something that saves stats also made their best efforts to not share the methods used, so if you'll want something like this you'll have to make it yourself.
Villain. 11 Posted June 28, 2010 Well you could try The Chernarus Run, which has RPG/Adventure elements. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=9845 Features: Long story driven mission. Health checks and Healing packs. Player can recall conversations. Many ways to complete the mission. Several hours playing time. Sound effects and Music. Sprinkling of humour! NeoArmageddon 958 Posted June 28, 2010 As already posted due to a lack of interest and stolen versions the project was stopped. Its a shame that there are some people in the ArmA2 Community, which think they have to protect their missions in such way. The community lives from sharing missions, depbo addons, and learning from others... Now back to topic (yeah, i like to complain about the rpg-people^^): The new version of Jaynus ArmA2 Extended Library has SQLite Support (like the arma1 lib from kegetys). This will allow even better progresssaves than chernaruslife (which is not a really progresssave, cause it just work on persistant servers).
enforcer1975 0 Posted August 10, 2010 Not sharing missions is a way to keep them original or better keep them the way they should be played. The servers were not full all of the time so i assume there weren't really a lot of poeple interested in an RPG at that time because it was the time where Evolution maps were quite popular. But still if the programmer didn't listen to others ( the guys he puts into QS for example ) on how to improve gameplay and lessen unwanted violence it's the normal way to stop a project when they all turn their backs on you because you never listen. A clanmate and i made such a mission where you had a personal log of what you did and even the position of your cars were saved on the map. Due to fear that someone would turn it into a deathmatch RPG we didn't release it for use on public servers, but we did invite players to try it out and help find remaining bugs. Due to lacking interest ( it was running for 6 months straight with less than 15 players having an account ) we stopped the server.
