I have some really bad issues with pop in and textures

Recommended Posts

For some reason there seems to be some really bad pop in on the textures and stuff in this game. Ill give some examples.

1. I am in first person looking at the grass straight down and the grass is all fat and blurry. As if I was looking at the grass from 50 feet away. It is not detailed at all and when I go prone is when I can see each blade of grass. Otherwise it is all blobbed together.

2. I am running down the street and the texture of the road is popping in all around me. It looks bad then goes to good. And then if I stay still and go into third person the texture on the road will be bad.

3. There is a brick wall and i seriously have to get about 2 feet away from it for the higher resolution texture to come in. Otherwise when I am like 15 feet away the texture is really bad.

4. There is some house far away that has a really bad texture on it (because I am far away) and then when I run toward it it get detailed but then when I stop it turns bad again.

Any way to fix this? Because I hate having to be 2 feet away from things for the texture to be loaded.

specs? Which version of the game are you running(1.05 or newer betas)? What are your graphics settings?

ATI 4890 1gb

Phenom II x4 965 3.4 ghz

4gb RAM

Windows 7 64 bit

Arma 2 version - 1.05

The setting were Texture Quality - High and Terrain and Object Quality - Normal

But I messed with the setting and the grass was looking like the texture quality setting was on low when I was right next to it. Then I put all of the detail setting to very high and for some reason my FPS didn't go down that much but was pretty good and everything looked normal and there was no pop in that was real bad.

Also what is the point of Post Processing? All it does is make the game look blurry.

You have a pretty good rig there, it might be that it cant handle low settings:p But what do you use for video memory setting? It should be at high if its not.

And if you dont have any critical fps loss if you set all your settings to high, why not let it stay that way? :shine:

Make sure your vid memory is set to default, it might help a bit.

what's the difference between default and high?

Use latest beta with exThreads=7 switch in your shortcut, also download and run game booster. Make sure your ATI card driver is up to date. It also won't hurt defraging your hard drive.

Well I have no clue why but it seemed like whenever I put my setting to very high I wasn't getting good performance. I think I set them down when I was playing on multiplayer and there was a lot going on.

Video memory was at high when I had the texture quality at high.

PP adds Depth of Field, Bloom, and the blur effects. The one you're talking about is probably the radial blur which happens when you're tired (I guess to simulate your eyes watering?). There is a mod which will remove it, but still keep the DoF and other types of blur (like when you get wounded)

IIRC Default should work best for 512MB+ vram or more (or maybe it was 1+GB vram). That's what I use for my 896MB card and it works for me.
