Semi-realistic Manual Transmissions

Recommended Posts

I really haven't seen this, but how about having manual transmissions with a bit more realism embedded into it? For example, it should be impossible to downshift to a low gear while at a higher gear without killing the engine. In reality, this would destroy the engine, and thus make the vehicle useless without repairs.

I can't say I see the need for it, unless you mean being able to drive uphill also using slow speed mode.

I would actually love to see some gearing for vehicles.More control so when your going down hill you leave in lower gear for engine braking etc. Also the uphill speed being so slow is dreadful.

Make right mouse button gear selector.3 gears and you cycle thru them 123back to123 etc.Not depth but control.

No that would be awful, if you want to change back 1 gear you would have to go through the entire list again. :p

With the driving the way it is, adding manual gears would make it one hell of an awful experience. First the driving mechanics and physics need work.

How about W is gas and gear changer.Press W and car goes forward in low gear and release and press again for next gear.Switch back by clicking S rapidly etc.

I have found a way to drive the vehicles pretty decently and fast.Use the A/D keys to steer left and right and the mouse is used to recenter the wheel ASAP.So you hit a turn fast and are holding down D key...what happens is the steering takes time to unwind and your now doing circles. If you press D and as soon as you pointed down the road in direction you want you quickly flick the mouse in opposite direction of turn you will find the steering re-centers and your running straight again.
