Snipers rejoice!

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, i dont have a website that supports file uploading and direct linking to them. So Black Feather was nice enough to host it for me. Look farther down on the thread to find his link to the mission.Zip file.

This is a very realistic sniper mission. There are no real objectives. You get inserted, you follow the begining of the mission and then you go hunting.

There are two versions of the mission included. One on the stock Kolgujev that comes with the game, the other requires Kegetys winter kolgujev v1.2

Requirements:

-Ultimate upgrade 3 and latest version of OFP

-Kegetys winter Kolgujev 1.2 for one version of the mission

Tell me everything you think about it. I want to know about every single bug you encounter. Patrol routs getting obstructed, miss-spellings, anything and everything that should be changed. Also, opinions are apreciated as well. Gimme some feedback

Well, I played if for a bit and I have to say great work! One thing that bugged me was the part where it says to wait for your resistance contact. He'll met me there at night? Heh, I know sniping requires patience, but I'm not waiting a few hours just to be briefed smile.gif. So I went ahead and started hunting, whenever I came across a patrol I would shoot only the officer, and hide as the rest of the squad ran around looking for me. One patrol however, I litterally stumbled across, a bush I was walking towards completely blocked my view of them and as a result we literally walked right into each other! I was surprized to hell to win that little point-blank gun battle, of course #2 with his MP5 helped a lot. I even found an enemy camp by finding the smoke with my binoculars smile.gif. I did die eventually, it was a really dumb way to go....get this, I fell down a steep slope while running down a hill and injured my shoulder....so now I'm a sniper that can't aim. In this condition I decided to attack and fight my way into the enemy base south east by the coast, to use a hospital tent. Didn't quite make it.

So overall I loved it, except for the scheduled meeting with the resistance contact. Perhaps he should already be waiting there for you....

Tovarish, LOL. I suggest you go play it again, and just do the first part where you meet the contact. I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

I played it for first time. It's really good !

I went to meeting point and later in night I tolked with res.contact, but he didn't tell me something important sad.gif.

Then I proceeded to first base on the east. I shoot 2 officers near TV?,1 medic, and gunner from bvp there.

Then I went to south base - there I called artilery supp. (can I specify target ? I didn't read hint, I was looking on map) So supp. destroyed several armor targets, I shoot tower guards  some crew and 1 officer. Then I went along wall to another base entry and I shoot another officer, unfortunately his men was enought to kill my spotter so I obtain order to go to evac.point. There was two soldiers running to my position. They didn't know from where death come for them - little revenge for my wing.

I decided that resistance camp would be easier to reach - there should not be many enemy soldiers near. I went through open area. I know it's not clever, but I carefully scanned horizon and I heard if there are some soldiers nearby. I didn't see and hear anybody so I went through open area. I was thinking - "I'm going through enemy territory so long and I didn't meet any enemy patrol confused.gif" and,at a time wow.gif, - bang - immediately I floped down and another -bang-, this time I heard weapon - it was dragunov !. I take cover behind near tree. (I was not so dumb to go without back-up cover wink.gif ). Enemy sniper made another five shots through branches and I was hit to hand. I closely scan nearby area for enemy sniper but I couldn't see him - it was draw.

I didn't want to risk another close observation. I looked at map and I tip his approximately position. I went, covered by tree, by line sniper-tree-me across near hill-top. I came round hill. And I was runnig to evac. But after few meters I was angry - "mad.gif  because of this hidden bastard I can not shoot correctly !" It become personal  smile.gif . I crept to position where, I was thinking, he were, but I couldn't find him. There was last 2 trees I didn't examine. He wasn't hiding behind first one so I looked throught sniper optics to the last one. "Hehe - he must be hidding behind that bush. But wait a minute ... there is some unusual piece of wood peeping from this bush. Oh my .. It's gunstock - It's not bush, it's a goddamn sniper ! tounge.gif ". There wasn't problem that my hands were shaking. Two shots from 2 meters and there was nothing personal more  biggrin.gif .

I was getting near forest, where res.camp is located, and I spotted another base on the south. I saw several armored targets there. "Hmm, I can not shoot but I'll go little bit near and I'll call artil.supp.". But there was no option,no radio message to HQ, to call support confused.gif . I was really near. No support, some armored targets and 2 groups of soldiers. What a waste ! sad.gif . I was running upwards when I decided : "I can try to shoot officers as the base even I have wounded hands." I leid down and scaned soldiers closely. I found 2 officers. I tryed to aim. It was not possible. But I had many maggazines so I shoot. I used same tactics like shooting from real gun. Concentrate, hold breath and in right moment pull .. mouse button  biggrin.gif . 1st shot - officer is history, right away several other shots to group of surprised soldiers - several soldiers death. When their machinegunner started shoot to my location I was moving to another position where I could see 2nd group better. They were acting like there was no shooting in their base  confused.gif so I did some tactics as I did with 1st group. 1st shot - officer is history, several other shots - several other soldiers death (damn ! I'm really good sharpshooter  smile.gif ). I didn't wait for nothing and I run to res.camp. I was right - there was no enemy near.

Results : 13 hours / 16500 pts. proffesional work, worth of codename Echo. (destroyed units: 6x officer, sniper, law-soldier, medic,3x machinegunner, grenadier, 7x soldier, 4x crew - casualities : Greg Byrd)

It's a mission without objectives an it makes it good. I'll play it again when I'll have more time.

Good work Aculaud ! smile.gif

Seriously with just a little bit more polishing this could easily be an official mission. Great job Aculaud. I feel kinda proud because I saw some of my ideas in there from when you asked for advice. On a technical scale this was a marvel. I didn't see any bugs. All of your scripts worked smoothly. Great atmosphere very dreary and lonely. Things got pretty hot when I started picking dudes off at the enemy base. I killed the primary target, but stayed because I was having too much fun. Great mssion for us KIA freaks. Got to give credit to Kegetys as well, great job on Winter Kolgujev! Here's a screenshot of my kills. biggrin.gif

Hmmm, I went there, I triple checked my location, and I waited for a few minutes with time set to 4X and saw no one, oh well, I'll try it again when I have some free time.

Yeah, i thought it would be cool to have a winter version of this as well. Kolgujev has the best sniping terrain in my opinion, so what better to use for a winter version than Kegetys? I thought that was a nice touch.

Well color me flattered, i'm glad everyone is liking it so far. I know there was some confusion about the resistance contact meeting you there at night, so i'll just tell you how thats supposed to work. You get to the town and hit the waypoint and then it shows some spoken text and it just fades right to night time, and then a minute later, your contact comes driving up to you and you get briefed. Gotta play these things out.

Anyway...Ok, seriously, everyone. Keep those comments coming. I want to know everything you think about this. USsoldier11B was saying "with some polishing, this could easily be an official mission". if you could elaborate on that, id love it. What should i polish?

Oh, and i should tell you some of the things i'm changing at the moment.

First, the ranger element your deployed with will be in winter gear, and i gave them a new waypoint because they were attacking a town that they werent supposed to.

Next, i took out the UAZ on the northern most patrol route, because it deviated a lot from its waypoints, so i just put another infantry patrol there instead.

And then i put another infantry patrol on the southern most patrol route.

Also, i havent done this yet, but i was thinking of replacing the patroling BRDM with a ural full of infantry.

Whatcha think?

No worries, I probably just got disoriented and ended up at the wrong burnt out village...the meeting point is a burnt out village right??  confused.gif. Lol sure seems like I did because no one else reported this. Well, either way it was an excellent mission (I didn't get to play nearly all of it, and I look forwards to playing it for a few hours, but can't right now as I have 3 programming assignments due by the end of this week and all my finals are the next sad.gif )

Just some very minor things, like sentences not starting with capitals. Minor junk. You should look at getting on some kind of mod team or something. There are some dudes who have earned reputations as un-offical mission editors and this ine was right up there. I like how open ended it was (no objectives) yet you did have a priority target and it tells you when you have killed that target. In your intro, did you write a camera script or did you create it using waypoints?

yeah, spelling and grammer is always a bitch. Then again, i could always just break all the bad habbits i have biggrin.gif

First off, i'm happy you couldnt tell if it was a script or waypoints, because it was mostly done with waypoints (kinda emberassed about that), but i made a script to show the place where all the armor was fighting. thinking of changing it back though. I had it shown much better with a waypoint effect. Or i might just make a script for the whole thing. I was thinking of planning an outro too.

ok, i'm seriously getting close to finalizing the mission itself. The intro and outro will probably be modified, but if anyone has any last minute suggestions for the mission, nows the time!

Is there any way that you could possibly make it for Multi-Player as well. If not thats ok. Still an awesome mission..:)

sorry man, i'm just not that skilled in making MP mission yet. Besides, there would be tremendous lag from all the AI in it. I used the maximum 63 groups for the enemy. If you were talking about a no AI mission, it'd take a year and a day to find people. the area that the mission spans is huge.

But thanks for checking it out smile.gif as i said, its coming to closure as far as the mission being built, so if you have any other suggestions, dont hesitate.

Hi Aculaud,

I just tried the mission but had to quit because that combat ambience loop was driving me absolutely nuts, you know the one that comes with the game. It's the worst sound effect in human history - could you please make a version without it? It doesn't add anything to the game, really. The mission seems awesome, and I'd really like to try it out. I just can't stand that loop... wow.gif
