These proxies are interesting

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've heard that in ArmA II people can use proxies to get their addons

over the polygonal limit in ArmA.

How can I add these and what are the disadvantages?

I've tried to use the search button but still nothing serious pops up.

Pros:

You can model several repeatedly used parts once as a separate p3d and add them to other models by using proxies. Main advantage, if you change such a proxy p3d, as example better texture or more detailed 3D model, all other models that have this model as proxy are automatically up-to-date.

Cons:

Aye, you can exceed the per-model-limit of polygons, but this includes the danger that you might over-exceed it and your model will start to lag out ArmA 2 to render this model.

Conclusion:

as long you keep the rendering impact in mind and don't over-exceed it, using proxies will probably make the work easier when it comes to place multiple objects of the same kind.

Pro: You can "hide" animate a proxy, making it much easier for whole large sections of your model to appear and disappear.

the big question is how do you do this. there must be something or someone out there who can or have done a tutorial. I am at that stage now on my model were i need to know how to do this. Or is it a close kept secret

The Arma 2 samples release (for Arma 3) has many instances of models with proxies in A2SM-APL.zip for you to peruse!
