Splinter Cell Conviction

Recommended Posts

so your all saying that if the gameplay was still matched to that of the first two games you seriously wouldn't get bored or think its the same old thing over and over?

I like all the previous ones and this one is even better because its taken it into a new direction. It seems to me that a lot of people judge a book by what someone else said it looks like before even getting it and reading it themselves.

It also amuses me that a lot of people on here didn't seem to realise that the link posted with the news from ubi was actually a joke. Lot of people up in arms about ubi forcing us to come to them for games lol.

Anyway as the poster above me says change can be a good thing. I bought this for the xbox to avoid any crappy drm issues and its a good game. like i said before more similar to 24 or the bourne movies but still nonetheless fun.

No, it's the same reason that I don't get bored with OFP/ArmA/ArmA 2.

It's a simple case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

How many 'run and gun' shooters do we need and don't you get bored of them ;)

Change is not necessarily a good thing and it certainly hasn't been in the case of SC.

Double agent was awful IMHO, nowhere near as good as the others and a real deviation from what made the games great.

that's why i used the word "can"...double agent was not a good game but conviction is good if judge on it's own merits. I have posted several times here saying its not really an SC game though.

So basically game developers should stop making these sort of games because simply "theres too many of them" There is a reason why there are so many of them and that is they reach a huge audience.

But i guess i cant be too harsh because i kind of agree with the basis in what you are saying. Especially the damn mario franchise. I mean how many godamned times are they going to make another super mario and mario kart? I wouldn't mind but the wii version isn't any different from the original nes version, its just had about 4000 newer versions. You can pretty much guarantee that whenever nintendo bring out a new console there will always be a new super mario and mario kart

The video games market has moved away from indepth games that take 20+ hours to complete and moved towards shorter games that take around 5 hours that are full of explosions and quick and easy to pick up gameplay.

We keep blaming developers and saying "OMG how can they do this!?!?!" well the answer is simple. The shorter, easier more action oriented games sell for the exact same price as any other game, they have shorter development times and sell at much higher volumes (COD:MW2 anyone?).

Add to this that people can use nostalgia or brand recognition to take an older games franchise and turn it into one of these newer type games and you are onto a winner every time. Is it unfortunate for mature gamers, yes...will it lead to the industry becoming samey and stale, maybe although i find it hard to believe there won't eventually be some kind of backlash as gamers continue to age.

However we all forget sometimes games companies don't make games for gamers they make them for profits thats why the churn out sequel after sequel of dumbed down crap.

Anyway getting back onto the topic of splinter cell i believe that is exactly what we have seen happen. Having said that the ubi guys did at least make an effort with conviction to make it an interesting action/stealth game that while i bears little resemblence to the original is still fun and entertaining in its own right.

Shame that their stupid DRM means I'll never get to try it regardless of how good or bad it may be.

Yeah, come over to my place and play it on the xbox i could use a 2nd player for co op lol. Anyway DRM puts waaay to many people off. PC Gamer UK summed it brilliantly with their revie of AC2 "It's Brilliant...Don't buy it" (because it requires a constant net connection and constant piracy checking to play).

well it makes sense its a console game meant for consoles. the very first 3 splinter cells were only released on xbox then ps2 then after a few years finally pc.

I think you might be wrong.

As far as I remember, at least the first Splinter Cell (2002) was released for PC first, not years later. The other titles don't know because I didn't played them.

I'm pretty sure the last releases (the original ones at least) came out on PC before the console versions, and at the very least were simultaniuous launches. All but the fourth came out on PC (think the fourth was a PSP exclusive).

What a crock.

It was never a 'console game meant for consoles' until Double Agent.

I've been playing AC2 myself, and would definitely recommend people buy it if it wasn't for the DRM. Much better than the first.

Not an issue for console players though.

Actually it was (ubi and microsoft had some sort of deal), the first SC was made for the xbox and only came out on the PC later. Ghost Recon was made for the xbox too but was released on the PC first because the first xbox kept being delayed.

Nah, it wasn't at all. It was released later on the PC because it took longer to develop.

It was always cross platform and never solely aimed at console users seemingly until Double agent and now Conviction.

How is conviction solely aimed at console users? Its available on the pc too isnt it? .

I dont know what the fuss is all about (conviction i mean), seems like another average game.

I saw it in action at a friends this evening.

'Q' to tag and 'E' to execute multiple targets without even having to aim

FFS Ubi, Just make a movie, this is the laziest drivel I have ever seen.

It was entertaining to watch on the big screen but definitely not something I would ever give Ubi money for.
