ladlon 10 Posted April 15, 2010 In a few games, including Arma2, I sometimes see a sort of moire pattern happening on buildings... like two textures struggling to occupy the same plane... but one is the building texture, and the other appears black... resulting in a sort of animated striped pattern. Just curious what exactly that is, since I've seen it in other games too... and, if possible, how to fix that. I think it generally appears when you are looking through a scope or binoculars. MavericK96 0 Posted April 15, 2010 I've seen the same thing, not sure what causes it really. But yeah, it typically only happens on far-away textures. It's really noticeable when running ArmAIIMark, Test 5 (Space Capsule), the water seems to "fight" with the land texture until you get closer.
KeyCat 126 Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) It's a known issue and been there (more or less) since OFP days. It's called Z-fighting and there are several old topics discussing this issue. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=90238 http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=92732 Been hoping this could be fixed/improved but nothing happend so far... /KC Edited April 16, 2010 by KeyCat
ladlon 10 Posted April 17, 2010 Hrmmm.... Thanks for those links. Interesting read. Ya, I kind of figured it was battling textures... probably at a point where it's not sure whether to use the near or far texures (hi or low res)... not that I'm much of a 3D programming expert. Shame to see that the people on those posts are disappointed in the lack of apparent feedback. Not exactly a gamestopper, but does pull you out of the moment for a bit. Ah, well... at least I know the name they call it now!
