calqluslethal 10 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) I've seen a used copy of Arma II on ebay, i would like to buy. My questions are what triggers fade, is it only fake cd's or pirated copies over torrents or what. Its not you can only install it once or if you sell your game it will trigger fade for next person or anything like that is it? Laqueesha 474 Posted March 29, 2010 FADE only applies to pirated illegal copies. A new or used legitimate copy of the game will not trigger FADE. It'll be safe to buy ArmA 2 from eBay, provided the CD key comes packaged with it.
walker 0 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Hi calqluslethal There have been cases of people selling fake ArmA as second hand ArmA over the Internet. Where they sell multiple versions of the same key. There is a warning about Key Resellers in the MP section of the forum http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=93566 These have resulted in the copy protection and anti cheat known by some as "Fade" being triggered. Why take the risk? While you might be buying the original disk, the reseller may well be reselling its key hundreds of times. Even if you have the original disk. You have no real license and the reseller has put the license key on the pirated list. When you buy second hand BIS the developer are not getting any money which is unfair and you have no contract with them as a result. A license is worth what you pay for it; if you paid BIS nothing for it, it is worth nothing; monetary exchange is needed for completion of a contract. So you have no protection under law if something goes wrong. Better to buy from a reputable source. So why not just buy it from a reputable source? There is a whole list of them here: http://www.arma2.com/distribution_en.html Check out the prices. Currently just £12.07 from Amazon in the UK $29.99 From best Buy in the US It is still on the shelves in game shops. The cost will in the same region as what you pay on ebay and you can be sure it is not pirated and that you actually have a license for it. So you are protected. Dreepa 10 Posted March 29, 2010 Does FADE actually exist?? I thought it was just a PR thing to scare pirates...
Aeneas2020 10 Posted March 29, 2010 Does FADE actually exist?? I thought it was just a PR thing to scare pirates... You're kidding right? Yes it is very real and it works extremely well...it also lives under your bed and comes out at night when you sleep.
walker 0 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Hi all http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Fade+Arma+2&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGLR_enGB247GB247&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&ei=r5-wS8vBGo-w4QbY1KDNDw&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBEQqwQwAA yep it exists. It is also amusing watching the occasional idiot complaining in the BIS support thread; when they have actualy stolen the game. BIS update the copy protection with all the latest pirate tricks every time they patch. The best thing about it is its delayed function so pirates think they have cracked ArmA release and then get thousands of emails blaiming them for their crack being crap. Leon86 13 Posted March 29, 2010 Well, I once tried a LAN game in operation flashpoint once the cd-check was removed. It triggered fade and I was pissed off I had to reinstall. If you get a valid serial key and the previous owner doesn't use it anymore you have nothing to worry about.

icewindo 29 Posted March 29, 2010 Yep fade works fine. I once started up ArmA1 after I had to reinstall my primary OS partition... without reinstalling ArmA. The result was pretty funny, my soldier dropped his weapon each time I started a mission after 20 seconds, I didn't do any damage etc.
