-maxmem & -winxp: Do they do anything for Win7?

Recommended Posts

On a computer with 64-bit version of Windows 7, a quad-core processor and 6 Gig of RAM, do either of those parameters do anything if you're not running SLI?

For instance if I set -maxmem=4096, will it use 4 Gig instead of maxing out at just 2? I think I read it defaults back to the 2 Gig switch if you put in anything above that.

Also, for the winxp switch - is that only for SLI?

ARMA2 uses only 2047MB so anything above that reverts down to 2047. Nothing you do will change that AFAIK.

-winxp switch forces the game to use Direct3D version 9 only, not the extended Vista / Win7 Direct3D 9Ex - the most visible feature the Ex version offers is a lot faster alt-tabing.

Awesome, I won't bother with those anymore. Thanks!

You can use the free RAM for a RAMDisk for ArmA 2 ;)

Or start the game twice. :p:p:p

Yep I'm going to do that. Though I wonder if I play as a server and sp if it will use more RAM?
