ArmA community is growing! Proof inside.

Making a mod for OFP was also easier in some ways.

Make a rough boxy shape, slap a dozen photos and call it done.

Now you have to make more detailled models, make clean tight UVs, create the color, specular, normal, reflection, oclusion maps, fine tune the RVMATS, rince & repeat...

Same goes for an island with satellite mask, clutter, hundred thousands of trees, rocks and stuff to place by hand...

With the quality of the game visuals growing, the time and talent needed for the modders to keep up is also increasing.

ARMA1 was also really underrated. With the last patch (think it was 1.16) it ran smooth and very many issues were fixed (Which the crappy beta-testers were to blame-for, who eventually got fired^^); which formed the foundations of ARMA2 :D

Yes, I too believe ArmA is underrated in some way. Heck, it kept me occupied for the two-or-so years in between it's release and ArmA II. That's saying something. It was far from perfect to start with, but with the release of the 1.18 patch (after ArmA II's release, which in itself was impressive on BIS' part) it was pretty damn bug free.

Well, I'm here because of the monumental failure of that other game...and glad of it. I can't believe how good this game is (bugs and all). The editor makes it for me. I haven't touched the other stuff. I can make the game I've always wanted...in a few hours even.

New to the game and loving it.

Rob

OFP times were the best for sure. BUT, ArmA 2 is quite close to it. Although meny guys I played OFP with almost 10 years ago now didnt like arma becouse it is more hardcore. Like you need to lob on distance etc. So, they loved massive scale of OFP but ArmA is too much effort for some of them and I dont blame them. You need a lot of time at once to play arma properly and there is less and less of this luxury.

You are correct, it is growing. I'll be getting the game as soon as I get my new PC (probably Thursday). I'm also trying to get those I know to get it, though I am meeting resistance in that they'd all but one need new computers. Damn system requirements.
