Testing multiplayer on one computer (FADE)

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm trying to test my multiplayer mission using one pc with two instances of flashpoint running.

It seems to work ok, except I get a message "original games do not fade" when my other instance joins the game. This is their odd copy protection kicking in.

Anyway, I've read that the fade affects gameplay, and was wondering if it will be ok to check things like my variables this way? I don't need to play the game I just want to test out my multiplayer scripts.

Thanks.

I don't get the message in a normal game, just when testing on the same computer with the same copy.

My question was though if this will effect my script. If it's ok to test scripts this way.

Sounds normal should not be a problem.

I had the same problem when launching 2 instance of OFP on my system, as apparently in this thread according to Major Fubar

AFAIK, FADE is only triggered when in MP and two identical install keys are detected.

You will see the little quote "Remember, original games do not fade" appear on the top of the screen.

So i guess when having 2 instances of OFP on the same computer joining each other is triggering that thing because both instances are using obviously the same cdkey.

An alternative, if you want to test your script effect in client side only, is to get the 1.96c server

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=43602

Then after installing it , just launch the server executable, then on the same computer launch OFP and go to Multiplayer -> LAN to see your server appearing.

You'll be able to join it as a client without the fade message appearing, allowing you to test the client side effect of your script without worrying about the game degrading.

Works well for me.

Look into the "gamespy no longer supporting" thread in the multiplayer forum.

GameSpy appear to have fixed their problem, so LoLL's issues must be settings related.
