MancSpartan 10 Posted March 1, 2010 Hiya Guys Im new to Arma, so please bear with me. Ive just been playing on an ACE server but couldnt work out who was the enemy and who wasnt! Some players had name tags, so I know theyre friendly, but others didnt, and looked like they were on my side, ie running and firing toward the enemy, so I assumed they were on my side. I did spot several un-tagged figures but didnt want to shoot them cos i wasnt sure if they were enemy or not. Can someone please help me out? katipo66 94 Posted March 1, 2010 The enemy be the ones with different uniforms! Seriously ive only played online twice, and the only thing i figured out was shoot in the same direction as the guys who were wearing the same uniform as me.
celery 8 Posted March 1, 2010 Play the game and familiarise the uniforms. You'll know them eventually.
Arma-2-Guru 55 Posted March 7, 2010 Just look for the guys who move like humans, the AI people don't act like humans, they have no concept of safety haha.
Tankbuster 1747 Posted March 7, 2010 As I usually play as West, I shoot at the guys carrying AKs. This works fine until one of my guys gets Winchester and grabs an AK, though they are told to announce this over comms, it's stll asking for trouble. If you're wearing headphones, the positional audio will help too. In Vopsound, the AK sounds very different to our weapons of choice (Barratt, XM8 or DMR) so you shoot towards the AK sound. That's provided a Harrier isn't overhead, 'cos you can hear sod all else when it is. :)
walker 0 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi MancSpartan As Celery and others pointed out the answer is experinece. There is no substitute for this but is easy to gain in the editor. Just spend time looking at their uniforms and comparing them. After a while you will get so you tell what side they are on by a glimpse of their boots. Shades of Gurkhas checking boot laces there . :D Guns are are often big give away. As time goes by you will not only be able to tell the weapon type visualy from a distance you will start to know the differense in sound from the weapons. Generaly people shooting at you should probably be considered enemy. Situational awarness in the way of knowing where your front line is and where your alies are is very important. Marker scripts that folow you or your group leader around can help though you may not have such on serious servers heck you will be lucky to have a map or even compass on some hardcore servers and missions. That is when communications come to the fore. Plan where you will be and pay attention to where others will be, let people know you are moving tell them where you are and where you are going. In ArmA and since BIS's OFP days the Rambo has been a singularly hated figure in the game. Even recognising their I for one still find it hard to stop my trigger finger from twitching. SO STAY IN THE LINE. IMHO most Blue on Blues are caused by the person who got shot. Constantly be thinking WHERE IS THE LINE? Kind Regards walker
Laertes 10 Posted March 7, 2010 I'd have a look at the TTP2, there's some aids for recognising friend and foe in there.
