How to find servers without adons that I don't have?

Recommended Posts

For every game I can connect to I have at least 5 that failed due to adons that I don't have.

I have looked at some 3d part solution that I don't remember the name of now and looked at this site and there seems not to be a simple and quick way to do this. The 3d part solution is a bit tricky to use and there is some online sites that list the servers but there one have to manually compare the adons. At least the ones I have seen. It should be a function in the serverlist that excluded al servers that uses adons that is not installed localy. Or a function to download them from server and install then automaticaly and only load them in the game when a server demands it.

So, how is the least bad way to get in a server without al that testing? The only ones that are easy to avoid is ACE2 since they state it in the serverlist.

Read the Guide to Mutliplayer manual in my signatiure.

It explains some of the details listed in the gamespy browser.

Our community manual also explains the application Yoma Addon Sync, which will help you find some addons and also how to set up -mod params so you can load selected addons

Thanks for reply!

I have looked at tthat before actually and I read it again now.

What exactly do this mean for me?

"Green Dot

The server is running the same version as you, there is no password and if EqualModrequired is switched on, you are using the same -mod params.

This does not mean you have any add-ons that the server requires."

Same mod parameters but still not the same required mods? So that only tells me about mod parameters and what is that?

I looked at the "addon sync" program and I guess that is as close one can get in functionality today. But after what I understand one has to load every single addon when the game starts if one doesn't know what server to get in to since one has to make custom shortcuts or use a launcher? Is that correct?

AddonSync can also "guess" a modset from the server modstring. Of course this is something which is "fragile" to say the least.

The required mod param is rarely used. Normally most server operators go with signature verification method instead of equal mod requirement. The signature check is more flexible as it goes by the addons itself, and allows people to have the same addons in whatever mod folders.

Ok, that sounds interesting. Why is that not used by then to sort thoose servers out that doesn't have the addons the client have? Or isn't it what it does? That question is most for the intrest of things, it will not help me to sort out servers in an easy way, but still interesting!

Most server that use addons will most likely use a selected set of islands.

So initially i would download all the most commonly used islands (either from armaholics.com or armedassault.info. Place these islands in a modfolder called "@Islands".

The most popular mod at the moment is ACE, so you need to download and install that.

Then create a shortcut to start the game add a -mod parameter

eg -mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm;@islands

If the server runs addons, there is now a good chance you have everything you need.

For the more obscure addons required, i would then create additional shortcuts (with sensible naming) and additional mod folders specific to that server, so that your mod params in various shortcuts look something like the following

(Create a folder on your desktop named ARMA and drag the shortcuts into that folder to stop your desktop being cluttered)

for example you may have the following shortcuts available

ACE

-mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm

ACE + ISLANDS

-mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm;@islands

SERVERNAME_1

-mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm;@islands;@Servername_1

SERVERNAME_2

-mod=@cba;@ace;@acex;@acex_pla;@acex_sm;@islands;@Servername_2.

If the server you want to play on is organised enough to use a YOMA repository, apart from the shortcuts, this is automatically done for you and is easily kept up to date.

There are other ways of doing this, YOMA itself has a lauch feature

Ahh, that's how you do it. I actually thought so but I was hoping for a solution that was there but I haven't recogniced it yet. ;) This is quite a lot of work but I will do it like that and first of all download the islands and ACE.

Ehh, and which are thoose islands that are common used if I might ask? There are a lot of them! Some sugestions so I don't get them all would be preciated if it's not to much to ask.

I got theese for a start: Panthera, Quech-Kibrul and SAP islands.

Thanks!

I would load the gamespy browser any evening and look through the servers to see which island their current mission is being played on

There are a lot of islands out there and if I were to offer my personal selection, it would not be the same as an other server
