Hidden 0 Posted April 9, 2002 I had fun with the C&C Renegade MP demo for a little while, as I had recently lost a dozen home-made OFP missions and was nothing but sick and tired of the game, mostly because of what happened. I needed a break and tried the Renegade MP demo, which was very fun. Actually it was so fun, I bought the retail game to play some more. It was fun. For a week, that is, or perhaps even two! A little gaming-devil sat tight on my left shoulder and told me repeatedly how great and fun Renegade was. Despite a bad feeling about the game, I kept playing. Oh so fun. But eventually I faced the facts, like: * Teamplay, what teamplay? * I learned a new word: N00bs. There are newbies and n00bs. The latter are unforgivable persons not able to understand the importance of teamplay. They destroy their own buildings and kill their team mates insteady of doing their duty. Not good, but it is a game after all. * What´s worse, though, is the newbie bashing all the time in the Renegade community. I have never seen worse. Selfproclaimed gaming prophets treat new players like mud. After a few days of MP, Renegade was not so fun anymore. I then played the SP campaign in Renegade. Not only once, but twice. You can tell I was bored; The campaign is not that fun, with some cool oneliners, cut-scenes and terrible AI, not to mention the respawning enemies. After a few more days I had enough. I uninstalled Renegade and kept visiting the official forum on a daily basis to see whether it would get better. Oh the snakes spitting poison at newbies and other players, hackers invading the board, mods not caring much anymore (am talking about paid mods after all). Vets leaving the board after 1+ year because they can´t take it anymore. It is not about having a weak stomach, it´s about the most disgusting behaviour I have seen so far on the internet. I tried getting in touch with WW support to solve a serious problem; I never got my WOL information so that I could play to get on the ranking list, which is constantly being DOS´ed and the players still have noe clue about team work. Now, someone will probably tell me "you dork, the good players and servers are on WOL". Not so, most of them play only to up their rank, something that you can do by simply shooting at enemy structures forever during gameplay, from a safe position. I think the last drop was when first a friendly guy released a MOD that would make people fly an aircraft that was not yet released as a patch, still being betatested (as I write this). What the community did not know was that the MOD had a Trojan inside, it submitted the players serial number to a website for everyone to grab and use. This because people could not wait another 2 weeks. I was one of them, but fortunately my serial was not grabbed. I was impatient and wanted to try the aircraft before I sold the game. Then people started whining about Renegade not being realistic.. "OMG what am I doing here?", I thought by myself. What "realism", what on earth can you make realistic about a half decent sci-fi game like Renegade? Nothing. It is a easy-to-play game, yet some people complained about easy mode in SP campaign (with autoaim...) being too hard. I played the campaign on the hard mode both times, yet it was easy, because you can absorb and unknown number of bullets or chemicals before you need to pick up one of those health packs that magically hovers in the air ======================================== THEN.. (Jeez man, get to the point already! Last night I re-installed Win2k, and the first thing to get back on the hard drive after the most crucial installations was Operation Flashpoint. When I heard the choir and president speaking during the installation, I couldn´t help but grin. It gave such a good feeling, knowing I was going back to the best war game I have ever played. I have just completed Kleaner2´s sniper training mission. I did not die once, killed 8-9 enemies, and was scared to death moving from bush to bush most of the time, checking my map and location At one point, I and my spotter were crawling through some bushes close to a village. Then I heard something like "hoitt, hoitt, hitt". Was playing late, so the speakers were turned down a bit. I turned it up and my heart started beating faster. The voice kept going and I turned my head to try locating their direction. "hoitt, hoitt, hoitt, hoitt!. "WHY can´t I see anyone still I hear them!!??" I though, my heart was really pumping at this point. Then all of a sudden, my spotter cried out loud (at least I think it was him, I got panic and ran as fast as I could to get away from there! lol/) "There they are!!". I can´t remember being so scared by playing a game in a while. Renegade was like resting your head on a pillow while watching something so stupid on the telly, you just have to watch it. Coming back to OFP was like coming home, kind of. Not that I am going to play 24/7, but it is so real, any other FPS bites their own butt in shame. That was my nkr2. Sorry if this message seems improperly for this forum, I just had to share my feelings for this game and BIS. They rock, and I will always remember OFP as a whole new level of realism in games. By trying Renegade, I knew I will always come back to OFP. I must be a boring person! Thanks for your attention, now give me a cookie. I prefer Maryland Cookies please, the ones you make at home. I lost the recipe so if anyone care to help me out.. *wink* And no, I have not been drinking, not smoking anything (non smoker), no drugs, no nothing. Just happy to be back playing OFP again! Sheriff 0 Posted April 9, 2002 I've been involved in the Operation Flashpoint Community for alittle more than a year now, And over my whole Flashpoint Experience i've noticed how much the community has matured and flourished. Unlike other Action games that attract the wrong audiences and then what's left of the game and it's community is smothered by acts of heartless immaturity, arrogance and irresponsibility. We all can proudly stand tall for many years to come indeed.
Soback 0 Posted April 9, 2002 After playing OFP for the first time, the first thing I did is called all my friends and told them how unbelievably awesome this game is. The next day I went online and tried looking for some cheats (god mode) was specifically what I was looking for. Well, found some, but they didn't work (Iwillbetheone). Came to this forums and read about it being a joke. Anyhow, at first I was kinda dissapointed (I kept dying A LOT), then after I stoped charging everything head on, magically things started going better. Now I am really glad for not finding any cheats. Seriously, they are like drugs, after having my withdrawl I really enjoy the realism in this game and especially the fact that it's not like all the FPSs out there. So not having any cheats actually makes this game better. Anyway. Great game, waiting for the sequell. Good stuff!!!

qUiLL 0 Posted April 9, 2002 one thing i love about OPF is how it IS so personal in some ways. i mean when you join a 4 player co-op game theres an 80% chance that you all will communicate and a low chance of there being llamas in the game. in dedicated servers i also see lots of teamwork, people playing roles and requesting some kind of assistance which their teamates give. i have never seen more "friendly" gamers in my life (tho there are still those lamers who play OPF who try to mess things up...i dont find them frequently tho)
Maddock 0 Posted April 9, 2002 A nice thread. I think this sums up the feelings of many OFP players.
Antichrist 0 Posted April 9, 2002 U know what funny? When I went on a second date with my girlfriend I spent all the time telling her how awesome OFP is I think I might actually get her to play it eventually

SpaceAlex 0 Posted April 9, 2002 Yeah. OFP is really one wonderful game. I'm playing OFP since June. I tried the demo in March. I couldn't wait for the final release. I'm trying to play other games too, but i can't. I don't even look at other games anymore. Playing OFP is always so fun and relaistic. I love placing bombs and sneaking around in the night, i love looking at the enemy from a bush knowing he doesn't know that i'm in the bush. One of the best day infantry single player mission is defender. really good mission. Tanks are on its way and it's your job to stop them. You must place mines on and around the road and wait for the tanks. Placing mines is nothing special, but hiding in a bush and waiting for the tanks......that is something special. Hiding and waiting in a bush is even more realistic if you have dolby speakers. Tank engine sounds are getting louder and louder, your heart is beating like crazy and when they finally come you're saying to yourself; "you're history my tanky ". You're really happy when u see those black tanks on the ground (or in the air ). Other BlackOp and other missions are also great. Co-op mission desert Ambush is something similar to defeder. maybe a little harder and more challeging. Man, i have to play a little OFP now, lol.
advocatexxx 0 Posted April 9, 2002 Yes indeed. I often only play games through Roger Wilco. There are lots of kiddies who constantly say "GO GO GO", so I kick them. I usually name my room "Roger Wilco Only", yet 90% of the people that come don't have it (go figure). Though if I wait long enough, patient people come, and we setup a game with 6 of us communicating through voice playing a total co-op. When someone calls for a Medic, he'll come and heal. When CO requests Machine Gun supressing fire in a certain direction, machine gunner obeys the orders. It's really fun to get together with a bunch of strangers and play a game so full of teamwork. It gets especially intense with no respawn on Veteran mode with everything disabled but Super AI. Only then does a true skill of a soldier come out in the open. ALDEGA 0 Posted April 9, 2002 "a true skill of a soldier" - rather the skill of a good OF player

Sheriff 0 Posted April 10, 2002 Second date? And she is your girlfriend?. Talking about a game on a date is a bad idea man. For one it's only your second date and your talking about a game, A game she know's nothing about, A Game she doesn't even care about. She wants to be the center of your attention. Talking about a game only highlights how shallow you are and your lack of any real creativity and innovation. Observe 'What did you do today hun!?' and your obsessive response would be 'I spent my day in a dark room playing Operation Flashpoint developed by Bohemia Interactive Studio and published by Codemasters, I shot and killed 40 Ruskies in cold blood'. Next thing you know she is dating a Pop cultured nice guy and you will think " It wasn't me, It was HER. self centered bitch".
Antichrist 0 Posted April 10, 2002 I wasn't really talking about the game. We were talking about our hobbies and I mentioned www.flashpoint.ru web-site And she wanted to know more...... That is why I thought "Why the hell not, at least when she will be angry at me for some reason I can always lose an MP game to her and she'll be happy"
