playable characters

I'm new to Arma 2, but I want to start getting into mission editing.

I'm wondering if the editor allows you to switch between several playable characters within a single player mission or are you allowed to place only one playable character?

You place one player, that is the unit you start with. Then you can place playable and those are units you can switch to during game.

You can set other units in the editor as "playable", this will allow you to teamswitch (use "T" as the standard key) to these in SP scenarios, while it will enable these as possible player slots if exported as mp mission.
