...that haunt my mailbox.

Everyday I get at least 10 mails from idiots and company's who learned their sales techniques from Jehovas Witness.

They make me so goddamn insane that I feel like strangling somebody, whenever I get another

"Take advantage of this important offer" or

"Invest now!" or

"Buisness proposal" (from Africa) or

"Here are the xxx pix you asked for" GODDAMN I DIDNT ASK YOU FOR ANY "PIX" YOU FRIGGIN BIATCH!!

Can you tell I'm annoyed smile.gif

Anyway, any advice on getting back at them?

I saw the word spammers but then I realized this thread wasn't about me.

Anyway, you should try spamming them back by putting them on gay porn mailing lists or something biggrin.gif

when you get XXX email, i usually means that somebody used your PC to look at porno, once you visit on site, they mark you and pretty soon you get a hole bunch of crap, just set up filters and that might stop the emails

use hotmail or yahoo. They got a very intelligent filter! Forget firewalls, they suck!

sometimes even a popup-blocker can prevent you from getting registered at stupid Sites.

Ahhh they can't get my e-mail address because it's not stored on my computer smile.gif

And I have a firewall anyway biggrin.gif

It helps if you try to avoid giving out your e-mail address, for example if a forum doesn't require an e-mail to activate the account you can just put some crap in. And if it does you can always hide it smile.gif Actually if you don't you get spammed quickly.

I once tested it by not hiding my e-mail address (one that I never use) on my other account and the mailbox got spammed in about a day mad.gif

Since i've had my PC, i've never got any trojans, or virus. I guess Norton's doing a good job. Also got a firewall, and other protective programs.

yes, be afraid, be very afraid!!!!!!

actually, just make sure your virus scanner is always on when connected to the net...

about 3 years ago on my older packard bell... I turned on the power.. and connected to the net.. before I had a chance to do anything, my PC shut off... when I flipped it back on I got this strange mix of colors and lines on my screen.. from then on.. after spending another 1500 bux for a new PC.. I always have ALL my net filters on.. and something like that had only happened one other time.. last year, I got a wurm, and it sent a virus to everyone of my list.. aka the "Snow White" virus... I got rid of it after 4 hours of searching.. just be careful.. and update your virus scan at least once a year it not more... and scan you drive as well as defrag every 3-6 months. smile.gif

Shouldn't have a problem.. and as for those pop-up killers... they do what they are meant to do... they benefit you in no way but to stop advertising... just be careful... wink.gif

yes, but advertising can be used as another counter! Especially since companies share information on your surfing behaviour. You can sell information and it is a great source of money so companies sell everything they found out about you.  Tripod and the others collect tons of data, and so your surfing behaviour will one day come back to you in terms of advertising  (coresponding to interests). Of course XXX stuff and loan-offers are sent to anyone (even random E-mail construction). Since their target-group knows no borders (everyone likes chix and money / and most have problems to get both)!

You cant imagine about how much you can find out about a person without Trojan horse and viruses. You simply need a good synapsis between all famous Sites. The combined information of all them shows where you lied, what words you like, how you create passwords (colour, names, numbers, simple, historical....). Dont try out too much on the net. You show too much of yourself.

depends how much you update your IE and Windows.

what happened was that MS products were often vulnerable to something called buffer overflow(or something like that). i don't know what the heck it is, but if you accessed a malicious website, the server could pry information from your PC. not general, but some specific ones related to IE.

AFAIK, the most recent service pack for IE covers it.

another rare case involved WMP(Windows media player) long time ago. When it first introduced skin-capability, it was stored in ZIP file. what could have happened is that some malicious ppl could have some access to that zip file. what could go wrong from there is that if the zip file contained some JAVA class, it could be activated and do whatever it was supposed to do...but it's a long story....

rule of thumb:

1.get anti-virus tools

2.get firewall

3.don't goto questionable sites

4.if you want, turn of VBscript and Java Script

But if your behind a firewall, you have to give your web browser access to the net. You don't have to give server rights to it, so info can't be taken from your puta...can it?

And when other IP's try to access your IP (for whatever reason, usually harmless noise) it blocks them.

Having your computer "hacked" is very rare. People use the word hacked too often. When people get trojans they say their pc was hacked .... this makes it sound worse then it is. The trojan is like a virus it floats along on the internet in files etc. Noone has specifically targetted you. Get a good virusscanner and mb even a Trojan scanner (The Cleaner by moosoft seems ok, ive been using it for a while now and it hasnt fucked up in a big way) a firewall (although if you use irc this is of limited use against trojans) and you should be ok.

@intruder

actually, it happens because of browser's ability.

for example, JAVA script. it is a very powerful tool, so what happens is that if someone can manipulate the code, then the server can know more about your browser than you might acknowledge. worse is Visual Basic Scripts. these are basically so powerful that they are now favorite tool for worms and viruses.

when your browser looks for a webpage(html, asp, jsp, and other) it sends a GETHTTP signal or something like that. the server gets the request, and sends back the page you requested. along with the page can come some scripts(JAVA or others)that gets run by your browser. when browser runs the script, if the script is made to pry something out of your browser's capability and browser allows it, it'll divulge the information, and send it back to where it's supposed to send it.

so this is how your info might be divulged. MS products are related to each other, so more info might be given out, if the script is that powerful.

i'm pretty sure you heard about 'cookies'. they are infos on cookies.txt or some other file that stores some info about you. depending on how they do it, this could put a 'nametag' on your computer, and when you visit other websites, if that website can identify some cookie and see where it comes from, you'll be unwittingly give out what website you've been to.

and speaking of Troajans, the terminology comes from that ancient fight where Trojans used a wooden horse to sneak in and kill enemy. this can be a virus/worm or can be a program. what this will do is it'll wait until some specific time, and then activate if certain conditions are met. no immediate symptoms, so hard to catch. but as Supah said, get a good virus software, and it'll catch it too. and personally, it's a method of hacking, if you are using some remote server control system.
