I was wondering if the regular israeli infantry units are the same as the Golani units. This has always confused me perticularly because in Noone's and Viperheart's IDF, there doesn't seem to be a regular infantry unit. Just Golani. Could someone explain this to me?

I'll look on the net but I haven't found anything that has clearly explained it.

BTW: No one can say that those Israeli soldiers on the news don't look badass! They look fricken awesome. Most of them seem to be toting M-16s and M-4s rather than Galil's... interesting.

Israeli tanks are Merkavas. Not amazing, but they do the job so it seems.

Unfortunately it is a reality of this forum... It has nothing to do with the current situation. Oh well, we'll see where this takes us. wink.gif

I believe the Merkava is Israeli made, and its primary function is crew survivability. So it has lots of defensive features and such.

The Giv'ati Infantry Brigade is based in the south. The Golani in the north. The Tzanchanim (Paratroopers) in the center.

More information on the organization page at the IDF site.

you talked about israelian mbt's there's also that :

sabra-1.jpg

i think it's an heavily modified m60 also known as magach

i'm maybe wrong

edit : just found a book , they talk about "magash 7" and it has some interesting pics of the one exposed at latrun

and it says that it was a modified m60

but this tank is designated as "sabra" on the FAS.org

The 9-screen movie on the IDF Amored Corps is very impressive. Even impressed my cousin who's an IDF reserve tank driver/gunner (I forgot what position he's in).

most of my family has been in the navy, my dad was in 4 different subs, and had to honor to be crammed near nuclear warhead missle silos to accomodate sleeping quarters cuzz it was soo crouded, than my sister is currently a Cheif Pedy Officier, she is MP i and i think she is still stationed in puerto-rico than my brother was a medic in the navy as well but is now retired from the service.

i think that the rear troops and the female troops still use the uzi smg (they also use short versions of the m16 and m4) , some special units (sayarets and the other sf units)still use the UZI SMG and the micro uzi smg with some accessories (reflex sight , silencers , high capacity magazines , red dot sights ... etc) , the mini uzi and the uzi pistol are only for the civilian use

but the rest of the isreali army uses the m16 in big number and they also use the galil (modified version of the ak47 , it exists in two calibers : 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm), these two weapons should be soon replaced by the TAVOR bullpup assault rifle

the Tar-21 is supposed to replace the weapons of the infantry.

i actually used it and its the most dust resistant weapon i layed my hands on. its performance is quite good.

the Uzi is used only by units that have CT roles and then they use the pistol kind.

you can give israel a lota credit, who else could fend against them selves against 5 other countries? (i think it was 5) i heard that egypt was massing a large tank assault to attack the soft under belly of israel along. with luck however Israeli soldiers manage to decode a secrete message of the attack and sent in a force for a surprise attack against the enemy who out numbered them and pushed them far back to the egyption border, afterwards, i believe it was syria, but another invasion commensed and the same force went on the move and then defeted the new invading force. that is pretty inpressive
