Badgerboy 0 Posted April 7, 2002 I take offense to the labelling of 'all UK Officers have attitude problems', as it is simply not true. Some are bastards.... complete bastards.... but only some. The only thing that seperates us from the enlisted men is that we hold a Queens commision, given for the ability to lead and inspire the men as an Officer. To be addressed as 'Sir', is out of discipline and respect, not because some petty little people think they have the power of god. I'm training as a Officer in the RAF, and I try to treat everyone with the same respect, although certain old rules frown upon to much 'mingling with the ranks', but these are slowly changing. Whomever met the 'Evil Limey Officer' just judge them all like that. I met a group of KC135 guys at RAF Waddington Airshow and we had a wing party. They were bloody great chaps..... later we met a complete bastard of a US Colonel who proceeded to bollock everyone around for very minor things. Pretty rich considering he was a GUEST on our base! Point being don't form stereotypes! BTW, The KC135 crew were NG, out of Florida I think, with a huge Tiger on the side of the A/C. Any of you Yanks know where they might be based? They were all complete piss heads if that helps! Remember, from bottle to throttle..... 12 hours! *cough* Yeah right

I'm not saying that the British officers had an attidude problem - just that their interaction with their enlisted men was different then of some other countries. The fact is that in Kosovo the British officers ate better food, had better sleeping quarters and got a hell lot of bigger pay. They didn't socialize with the enlisted men in the same way as the Americans did. Now, my explanation of this is that the British enlisted men were mostly 17-year old kids, while the officers were 25+ years of age. The British officers were also well educated while the enlisted men had hardly finished any form of secondary education. All I said that I liked better how the American officers treated their enlisted men. Hell, I would like that our Swedish officers were more like the American ones. Russia had by far the most friendly and down-to-earth officers, but it's hard to say how they treat their own enlisted men since there was very few of them in Kosovo. IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted April 7, 2002 An interesting article relating to USSoldiers widely asked question 'why does everybody hate us?(U.S)' (to paraphrase) and his contention that the rest of the world does not do enough in terms of defense ,can be found here http://www.observer.co.uk/comment/story/0,6903,680100,00.html broadly it proposes that the US deliberately keeps its spending way above all others and out of everyone elses league to keep their (loose) 'friends' feeling secure so that they do not rise to challenge the US in the future as rivals in other words shouldering the budget of global defense 'security' (at US(soldiers) tax payers expense) in return for keeping potential future rivals down (eg EU, Japan etc) such opinions certainly seems to manifest themselves in the Whitehouses persistent  hosility to a (theoretically friendly) stronger EURO-army, which would of course enable US forces to pull out of europe saving billions of US tax payers dollars. But it seems like America (government, press and military industial complex) scold us (Europe as a whole) for being incapable of self defence on one hand (and burning up tax dollars in euro defense) , but desperatly try to prevent us becoming independant from them on the other hand( and developing into a rival) so if its true i guess USSoldier can blame not europe but the whitehouse for using his money like that its a view anyway

ChickenHawk 0 Posted April 7, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Like I said, yes without American support we were facing a grim situation indeed. But then If all of a sudden Britain dropped off the face of the earth, America would be the one in trouble. Britain did a GREAT deal in world war two, and so did America but saying that "America won the war" and other such sentiments (not necessarily what you said) is huge disrespect for the many thousands of brits that died fighting that war. Its like saying, you guys dont matter for shit, because America bailed you out and nothing you did before or after that matters. I know thats probably not what your saying either, but thats what I think of whenever i hear an American say or type "We bailed you guys out of WW2" As for calling us limeys, i dont think anyone cares about that. <span id='postcolor'> That just about sums it up, we took the North Atlantic, Africa & Burma and tried Northway pretty much all by ourselves & we were fighting the Japs and the Germans way before u guys got in the war. Anyways leme finnish the topic with one of my favourite quotes. SHADAP!

kaifas 0 Posted April 8, 2002 offtopic:i actually had to go back to page 1 to remember what this thread was all about topic:it depends on who and what your co are made off, some are genuine assholes and some are just too damn hartbreaking good at what they do(hence get respected). My exprience is from norwegian telemark battalion,in norway and bosnia.in norway and bosnia things remained the same...every chance they got to get out in the field they jumped on.so besides being stuck to base operations the COs remained the same all over. the COs i meet down there(US,NL,french, turkey, british, etc)where good ppl. They respected us and we respected them.....tho i dont think the turkish general i aperantly offended by doing what i was suppose to do,liked me to mutch...he demanded that i was hanged for the criminal act of doing my job, hehe now that was a funny incident btw the hanging thingy was not summit he said,he requested it from the GEN C Clark(at that time supreme commander of allied operations in bosnia)tho his demands was rejected:) hehe that reminds me about a english captain or colonel(cant recall exacly),anyway we where on a "exersize" in bosnia and we were flown back to base with this fella(he´s an ex chinook pilot that only gets 1 day per week flying the chinook). So here we load up the entire troop into the chopper and he takes off.....mid air he opens the backhatch(done from the cocpit) and makes a stall manouver(points the nose of the chinook 90 degrees up,the only thing that kept me from not slamming into the ground was the seat belt....but man that was cool, and im pretty sure that if the seatbelt had loosend i wouldent have been around today.
