Herbz 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Hi, I'm trying to set up a OFP Co-op dedicated server for a LAN and have run into problems. I have read the Server admin guide that comes with the patches etc but can't tweak my server well enough to stop the enemy soldiers from skipping around (fairly slight but I want it silky smoooooth). The server says it's running at 45-50 fps, I have tried many variations of the MaxMsgSend and MinBandwidth settings in the flashpoint.cfg file. What should I try to get rid of the skipping/warping? On a 100Mbit LAN what would be approriate settings? Does Co-op normally warp a bit compared to deathmatch etc? Cheers, Dan
ALDEGA 0 Posted April 6, 2002 More units present on the map, more skipping. I do believe though that it should go smooth on a 100mbit LAN.
Herbz 0 Posted April 6, 2002 Cheers, ok so it's possible to have no skipping in co-op missions on a LAN.. Can someone who has run a dedicated (co-op or deathmatch) server at a LAN Party or something let me know what network settings they use in the flashpoint.cfg file? Thanks again, Dan
RevRaz 0 Posted April 7, 2002 May want to post your machine specs too, for the game server. If its not up to par, the server will have a hard time.
Herbz 0 Posted April 7, 2002 Hi, the server is a P3 500 with 256 RAM. I'm aware the recommended is a P3 800 but I'm only hosting for 4 players. The #monitor command shows up 45fps which indicates that the CPU is ok is that right? On a 100Mbit LAN I assume you can have silky smooth co-op play. All my team mates are ok, it's just the enemy A.I skip around a bit (e.g the Shadowkiller mission). Thanks again, Dan
Herbz 0 Posted April 7, 2002 Hi again, ok I just tried hosting on my AMD 1000 and the enemy AI still skipped every second step or so. Anyone know how to stop that? It seems to be when I view them from afar with my binocs, when they're close it's not so bad. Is that normal? Or can I configure my server better for Co-op play? Batstat 10 Posted April 9, 2002 With this setting we was 14 people and used dedicated server 1.46 on an Pentium IV 1Ghz, 512Mb RAM and win2000. We also used a 10/100 Mbit switch. The mission was a flag mission designed for 16 players. Our server fps was between 9 and 20. The cpu load was 100%. The network I think had more or less nothing to do. Conclusion our lag was CPU spesific, I think. MaxMsgSend="256"; MaxSizeGuaranteed="512"; MaxSizeNonguaranteed="64"; MinBandwidth="10000000"; MaxBandwidth="60000000"; Next time we used the same setting but had changed our server to AMD XP 1800+. This time I thought it would come 20 people so the mission was modified for that aspect in mind. Only 12 came, none of the AI was disabled. When zooming you could see warping but else it was smooth. Mostly it’s people that's warp and not the tanks it seems. This time #monitor reported 10 fps all the time. The cpu load was 100%. The funny thing we all said the game did run smoothly enough. I wonder if this setting is good for the network but bad for the cpu load. If so there should be possible to find a better configuration. But with 14 to 19 others to care for I don’t like messing around with it to much. Sorry I couldn’t help, but this is our figures.
Mister Frag 0 Posted April 9, 2002 With the dedicated server, the CPU utilization will always go to 100%, even if the server is not doing anything. It seems that it uses busy waits (polling) rather than looking at socket events or I/O completion port events.
